Urgent! Please help! I don’t know what to do and I don’t want to keep going to the optometrist! So basically my eyesight keeps getting worst and I’ve noticed it whenever I wear contact lenses and i have to keep going to the optometrist and do checkups which cost money (which I don’t want my parents to spend) I have like -3.25 in one eye and -2.25 and my last checkup she told me that I went down by 0.25 and I had just changed the lenses of my glasses because my vision had gotten worst! (I have myopia and slight astigmatism btw) but My mom spent like 90 euro! The optometrist said that it wasn’t worth changing them, so we didn’t and she just give me different contact lenses to wear with a higher prescription, now I’ve worn all the sample contacts that she gave me so i’m back wearing my old contacts with the old prescription (that I have to get changed) but lately I’ve also been experiencing these sort of headaches or ache even around my eyes And head. I’ve been to the doctor and done my checkups everything was fine, I also did a test at the optometrists and they checked the back of my eyes, nothing was wrong but i’m still expericing these headaches that I never usually had up until recently, i’m not sure what it could be but I mostly i just feel this guilt inside me because I don’t want my parents to spend anymore money for these appointments they already do so much for me and I hate asking them or telling them these things! I’m just wondering if there are any admins who had a similar experience who could give me advice on this, do you think that I absolutely HAVE to get my glasses changed again? Honestly my worst fear is that I’ll go completely blind :( p.s.could u plz keep this anonymous? Thanks youu.
Since you have a slight astigmatism, is your prescription treating it? I know that untreated astigmatism can cause headaches because it strains the eye(s) so that could possibly be the case although if your optometrist said it wasn't then it could be caused by something else. I suffered from constant headache for the past two/three years now. It used to be really bad but now it’s more like a couple times a day rather than all day every day. I had my MRI done and went to see the doctor more times than necessary and they couldn’t find anything wrong. So one day my doctor just told me it’s probably just migraine as well as tension headaches. She told me that if I feel a headache that kind of pulls either from shoulder or if it wraps around my head and squeezes the it’s tension headaches. Tension headaches are common in people who have poor posture, a lot of stress, or sleep deprivation. You can typically treat this with pain killers but since I had it so often that my doctor prescribed some muscle relaxants that I can take when it gets really bad. There are also episodes of migraines as well and that can be treated with Excedrin.
If there is nothing wrong with your eye, have you considered going to see a general doctor and find out if it could be caused by migraines or tension headaches? I think if it’s an issue for you, it’s worth looking into. I regretted that I had to pay $300 for my doctor to tell me I didn’t have a brain tumour but now at least I know. It does cost a lot but call your insurance company and see a doctor that takes your insurance. MRI’s can be cheaper depending on the place you go sometimes as well as your insurance. So there are ways to keep the cost low but I think if it’s a problem you should get it checked out because once it’s solved money can be earned back. But if left untreated - whatever it is - it could cost a lot more later on.
Also wearing contacts means that you have to get checked every year. My sister wears it and I think she worsens every two-three years but this is a condition by ageing though. Your eyes do worsen as you get older but if you’re a young individual, it could pose as a possible health problem. I would say keep a check on it. When your’e young and starting to wear glasses, your eyes do worsen every few years but eventually it plateaus which allows you to get Lasik. But talk to your eye doctor about this possibility as well. I’m not an eye doctor so I’m really just going off of what I’ve been told - because I’ve had to wear glasses since I was 6 and I'm pretty adamant on not obeying so I get lectures a lot by my doctor.
