Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
If you ever get lost, don't ask the false map turtle for directions! This species gets both its common name and its Latin name (Graptemys pseudogeographica) from the patterns on its shell, which can resemble the patterns of topographical maps. These patterns are particularly noticeable on juveniles, and typically fade as individuals mature.
