The HBO Max hospital drama has spawned an obsessive fandom that sees the troubled hero of the series as its villain.
Hmm I have so much to say about this. I realize I may be late on this, but just saw it.
1. Please don’t give stupid viewers credibility by writing a whole article about them. If they have an inability to focus or understand that characters are flawed or that the show stars Noah Wyle and the concept of a supporting ensemble, they don’t need an article written about them 🙄
2. The idea that they named a Jewish character Saintly in the title which the show never depicted him that way. He has always been complicated and flawed, but played in a way that viewers can empathize with his situation. It’s called great writing and acting which television has been starved for too long.
3. The fact that the writer of this article with the last name Zuckerman can’t for the life of them pick up on the blatant antisemitism driving much of this hate towards Wyle and Robby? REALLY?! That’s not mentioned AT ALL?! If a writer really wants to interrogate this odd viewer reaction, this must be part of the conversation. And any other minority actor/character receiving this disproportionate reaction, this would be interrogated.
4. “Fans” who can’t look up from their phones to digest basic storyline beats, understand flawed characterization, the concept of weekly releases and plot building are not “devoted.” They’re just fucking loud. There’s a difference.
5. With all of the potential elements to write about the series - expanding on the social economic issues that are represented, the culturally diverse cast, the mastery of the production from prosthetics to set to camera work, this is what VANITY FAIR wants to write about?
6. PLEASE, Pitt writers and producers, ignore this shit. Just write and create the show you want to make. I would hate for stuff like this to influence the series.
