Feathers: Snowy banshees have small fuzzy feathers on their faces that are greyish white in color. The feathers down its body match its skin more.
Length: 9.144 m/ 30 ft {wingspan}.
Weight: 200 - 300 pounds
Eye color: Gray or indigo.
Anatomy: Snowy banshees have a large hatchet-shaped crest on their heads, containing hollow nasal air passages. They share the same body structure as mountain ikrans. They're covered in feathers that become more thick and fluffy the further it goes down it's body. The snowy banshee's wing muscles and specialized claws are used for scooping up prey and walking short distances on top of the snow.
Behavior: Snowy banshees are very expressive, intelligent, and social creatures. They will communicate with each other using movements in their eyes, heads, and bodies. They travel in colonies that live in the snowy mountain range or on the arctic beaches.
Unlike the mountain banshee, snowy banshees are more easy to bond with: To bond with a snowy banshee a na'vi/avatar has to approach a snowy banshee that hasn't flown away or doesn't show interest, and bow at them. If it bows back, then the na'vi/avatar can bond with it. Snow banshees can make several sounds for communication and has the ability of mimicry, often using this ability to mimic most popular phrases and can even mimic musical notes. They can even recognize their names and members of the family of the na'vi/avatar that they had bonded with.
In Na'vi culture: Like mountain ikrans, na'vi from the Veykx'u clan bond and ride snowy banshees, even using them to pull sleds. Families that have bonded with snowy banshees, will bond their newborns to their ikran and make basket like harnesses to put on the snowy banshees, so they can watch over and babysit the newborn(s) or toddler(s) all the way up to the point where the child starts to crawl.
In songs, dances, and stories the snowy banshee is thought to be a playful, but wise creature with the ability to navigate the spiritual realm Some na'vi of the Veykx'u believe that snowy banshees guide the spirits of the deceased to Eywa, acting as protectors of the living/dead and messengers of wisdom.
Fur color: White to a mixture of frost and snow color. With tiger like stripes and spotted patterns.
Height: 9ft {2.7m}.
Length: 19ft {5.7m}.
Weight: 4 tons.
Anatomy: Like it's jungle relative, the thanator, this specimen has the body built for speed and stealth. Its body is covered in thick, fluffy fur. It has five sensory quills that sprout from sections of armor plating that encircle the rear of its skull, which have little fuzzy hairs on it.
Unlike the jungle thanator, this version has four eyes. The rear eyes have a unique sensory system for detecting infrared radiation, enabling them to generate a 'thermal image' of predators or prey like modern day snakes. Which gives this apex predator a great advantage during snowstorms, blizzards, or whiteouts while their prey's vision is blurred from the snow. They mainly keep their second pair of eyes closed as their front eyes are powerful enough to use, and they mainly reserve their secondary eyes for snowstorms/whiteouts.
Like it's human name suggests, it has two pair of saber teeth that they can retract back into their jaw and flip out like a switchblade knife to stab into and pin their prey down. The saber-tooth thanator has a very strong bite force to crack bones, even when its saber-teeth are tucked away. They evolved to have strong jaw muscles and teeth to help them hunt and also evolved specialized claws for dealing with the ice along with wide paws for moving around the snow, like the Veykx'u, saber-tooth thanators have special pads on their feet to help them walk across the snow more easily.
Hunting method: Saber-tooth thanators prefer a more ambush strategy when it comes to hunting. These predators would spread out and surround its prey before getting close enough to attack. If the ambush method had somehow failed, saber-tooth thanators will chase down their prey and use their saber-teeth to bite at the flanks of their prey to gut it and start eating it alive. Lone saber-tooth thanators will use their saber-teeth to tear chunks off of bigger prey or create deep enough wounds to make their prey bleed out. They will usually go after smaller prey by stalking and pouncing, going for a fatal bite to the neck.
Behavior: Like modern lions, saber-tooth thanators hunt in prides of 6 to 60. With a social structure resembling closely to modern wolves.
(Meaning that the pride is led by a breeding pair)
Saber-tooth thanators will alloparent newborns to three month old cubs during hunting trips, often leaving three babysitters to watch the newborns and cubs that are up to three months old. Any cub that is older than three months old is old enough to join the pride on hunts. When males and females reach sexual maturity, they often leave on their own to find their own territory or are chased out the breeding pair's territory when the pride starts to have too many members in it. Saber-tooth thanators are naturally wary of na'vi and tend to stay away from them.
Saber-tooth thanators that live in the subarctic region are more solitary than the ones that live more far north, as they don't have to deal with much competition with large carnivores.
In Na'vi culture: The fur is used for parkas and ruanas, and their saber-teeth are used to make weapons and knifes or for decoration. Their meat is quite delicious and is mainly used in celebrations. The saber-tooth thanator is considered as a very respectful hunter and has many songs, stories, and dances to honor them. The Veykx'u believe that the saber-tooth thanator represents the ability to face and overcome challenges, fierce determination, and unwavering focus and teamwork. There is a folktale about a child who was lost during a blizzard and was returned back to their clan by a pride of saber-tooth thanators.
Fur color: Males have whitish gray fur while females have pure white fur.
Height: 20ft {6.096 m} 25ft {7.62 m} When standing up.
Weight: 1,600 kg {3,527 ibs}
Length: 36 ft {10.9 m}.
Eye color: Dark brown to pitch black.
Anatomy: Wendigos have two sensory quills at the base of their head and a square shaped mouth with large tusk like teeth. It has an excellent sense of smell up to 40 miles {64 km}. Wendigos have layers upon layers of pure muscle, which helps with their strong, powerful legs for running and slashing at prey with their claws. Their claws are designed to keep their grip on the ice. They have incredibly thick tough, layered armored skin. Making them completely bulletproof and almost completely impossible to penetrate, which the armored skin gets more tougher the longer the wendigo lives for. They do have one weakness, though; the Veykx'u had found that a clean shot to their operculum, located on it's lower neck will kill the wendigo.
It has been recorded that wendigos have a deadpan expression which makes it very hard to tell what a wendigo is thinking.
Behavior: Wendigos are solitary land apex predators, often hunting prey as big as the offspring/elderly of the woolly hammerhead. Sometimes they show a more opportunistic behavior as they have been known to scavenge carcasses after blizzards and when the situation calls for it. Mothers are attentive, frequently touching and grooming their twin offspring.
When mating, pairs will seek out each other and both male and female will often try to intimate potential competitors by showing their tusks and if one of them haven't back down, they will engage in a fight, which one of them will try to pin the other one on their back. The victor of the fight will gain breeding rights.
Mating pairs will remain together for one week or more, mating several times. Aggression occurs between males during the breeding season and when males attempt to steal food caught by others and rivalry territory disputes.
In Na'vi culture: It is a rite of passage to be seen as an adult in the clan by hunting a wendigo and bringing back proof of the hunt.
Its teeth and claws are used for songcords, necklaces, and ceremonial outfits. While the tusks are used for the attire of the olo'eyktan. The hide of the wendigo is used for parkas and other outfits so they wouldn't be worn out or destroyed so easily.
Wendigos play vital roles in subsistence, spirituality, and art, appearing prominently in traditional stories and spiritual beliefs of the Veykx'u. One of these stories tells about an elder who adopts and raises a wendigo cub as their son. Wendigo meat is viewed as sacred and sharing the protein rich meat is a powerful act of solidarity and reinforces group identity within the community. Wendigo meat is fatal to humans when consumed, but it is non fatal to avatars.
Due to the wendigo's armored skin becoming more tougher as it ages, tsahìk Wuänä te Amäfä Fangtxeyra'ite once faced down an elderly male wendigo which she had dubbed as: Tìterkuptìranìì (meaning death walker), as the armored skin prevented the huntress from killing the creature, makeing the creature take multiple blows from her weapons. Tìterkuptìranìì would be used in several songs, dances and stories.
Anatomy: A small but stocky creature, its body is protected by a thick, reptilian skin, and a prominent shell. Large, but lightweight, this sturdy shell covers most of the body. The creature can lift this shell with its powerful tendons, appearing to double in size. The venom that the polar whipfang can produce, is a contact poison that absorbs through the skin of its victim.
Behavior: Staying low to the ground, it creeps through the snow, staying out of sight until it is close enough to strike, relying on ambushing hunting and deploying its fangs like their relative, the whipfang crawler. The polar whipfang often prefers to travel in deep snow where its camouflage will most be in use, often burying its shell, expect for their head in the deep snow.
While usual a solitary hunter, polar whipfangs will hunt in small packs of up to five individuals during blizzards, where they have more of the upper hand or when times have become harsh enough for them to group up. They use vocalizations and pheromones to communicate with the members of the group to take down much larger animals, showing some advanced pack tactics. Polar whipfangs can also use its strong jaws to attack, while remaining protected by the plates that run all along the top of its body.
In Na'vi culture: The Veykx'u harvest the sacks located beneath the creature's neck to create medicines for their people and poison for their arrows. Na'vi will carve out their shells to make drums or large bowls. Some snow na'vi teenagers or young children will often steal the hallowed out shells to sled down hills. While the fatty meat of the polar whipfang is used as a main ingredient in meals.
Habitat: High, rugged mountain ranges and steppes.
Fur color: Smoky gray-to-white fur with dark spots and rosettes.
Height: 2'9ft {3.5m}.
Length: 7'7ft {9.28m}.
Anatomy: The cloaked mountain panther is a subspecies of the cloaked pather and shares the large wing-like membrane that extends from the front legs to the tail. Its streamlined stocky and compact muscular body allows it to reach very high running speeds across steppes and steep, rocky, mountain terrain. Once it has accelerated sufficiently, the membrane can deploy to allow it to glide across long distances and descend upon its prey with silent, deadly precision. It's many operculum located on the side of its neck.
It is believed that the cloaked mountain panther once thrived in the high mountains of Pandora before migrating to the north.
Hunting method: Cloaked mountain panthers masterfully use high-altitude terrain to their advantage. They often ambush from above, launching surprise attacks using its powerful hind legs, capable of leaping great distances (up to 100 feet horizontally and 40 feet vertically) across cliffs and ledges, and use their membrane either control their descent, or to use their membrane to glide to chase down their prey downhill along steep slopes. This strategy makes it harder for the agile prey animals like tsoflìäì to escape.
The cloaked mountain panther typically kills its prey with a powerful bite to the neck, which can sever the spinal cord or crush the windpipe, causing a quick death. Or, using their sickle claws to throw their prey over cliff ledges and let gravity kill their prey for them.
Behavior: The cloaked panther travels in packs of up to five and has very keen eyesight and hearing. They use stealth to close in on herds before attacking together, hoping to separate vulnerable prey from the herd, which they then pursue and kill.
In Na'vi culture: These creatures are viewed as powerful, elusive, and sacred beings that maintain harmony of the snowy mountains, with some snow na'vi protecting them from what few poachers come to the far north.
Skin: Vibrant red coloration which will get more brighter during spawning season, contrasting with their silver with black speckles and a bioluminescent vertical purple stripes. The color change during the spawning season is a visual signal to attract mates and deter rivals.
Body height: 12 - 20 inches.
Length: 48 - 80 inches.
Weight: 44 - 70 pounds.
Anatomy: Like their namesake, the akula salmon has a three-part jaw which opens in a triangular pattern like a blooming flower. The lower and upper jaw develops a sharp hook-like structure called a kype. Females also have a less developed kype, until the mating season, where the kype will start to develop more, along with rows of hooked back teeth.
A flat fin protrudes out of each side of the back of its head, making it resemble a terran manta ray. Use their eight lateral fins to propel themselves through strong currents with impressive power and agility.
Behavior: They are typically anadromous, meaning they migrate from freshwater hot spring lakes to the ocean where they shall stay in close proximity to sea ice to feed and then return to the same hot spring lake that they had spawned from, to spawn.
Males are known for showing aggressive behavior during the spawning season, which releases pheromones to attract females and rival males will have ritualized battles with specific displays. Smaller males may adopt the coloration of females to avoid detection by dominant males and try to sneak in and fertilize eggs. Instead of laying eggs immediately, the female will carry them inside her body and travel to the shallows and make a nest then laying their eggs in huge clusters.
In Na'vi culture: Akula salmons are a cornerstone of food security for the native na'vi clan, providing a vital source of nutrition and contributing to their overall well-being. Akula salmons are often honored in ceremonies, stories, and rituals. The practices surrounding fishing and processing are passed down through generations, preserving traditional knowledge and cultural values.
Skin: Belukha grampus are born with dark peachy-orange skin, which gradually lightens as they mature. They transition to bluish-gray, then gray, and finally become white with black hues as adults, typically between six and eight years old. Their skin is smooth to the touch and has a rubbery texture. Despite being thick, the skin is very sensitive, indicating the presence of nerve endings.
The white coloration helps them blend in with the snow and ice. They have black crests that protrude from the front of its snout also shed their skin annually, which can affect the appearance of their white color.
Length: 64ft (males) 46ft (females)
Weight: 23,000 Ibs (male) 20,000 (female)
Anatomy: Large marine whale-like species, Their crests are incredibly hardened which makes it specialized for breaking through the ice. have four eyes, two on each side of the head. They have six paddle-shaped flippers, although the last two have merged to become part of its tail, forming tail flutes that propel the animal through the water. They have six blowholes on their backs and highly durable armor plating across their body. Their body is very sleek, robust, and stocky.
Similar to terran tree rings that can be used to age a tree, Belukha grampus teeth has a growth layer group for each year they age. Unlike like the tulkun, their neck vertebrae is not fused, so they have free movement with their head, which makes them have the ability to nod and move their heads from side to side.
Behavior: Belukha grampus may raise their heads above the water to get a better view of their surroundings. They engage in play behaviors, which may be related to developing survival skills or simply expressing their curiosity.
Hunting and feeding: Belukha grampus are apex predators in the northern marine ecosystem, playing a vital role in regulating populations of other marine animals such as direseals. Belukha grampus have a diverse, yet flexible diet that is based on availability, including fish, cephalopods, and crustaceans. Some may specialize in certain prey
They often hunt cooperatively together near the surface, coordinating their movements and strategies to capture prey. They are known to dive to depths of up to 900 meters.
Communication: Can be highly vocal, producing a wide array of sounds including whistles, clicks, chirps, and other calls for communication, navigation, and hunting.
Social behavior: Belukha grampus often rub against each other and even rake their teeth on each other, which can cause scratches on their skin. Some even rub their bodies on special beaches with smooth stones.
Belukha grampus live pods, that can range from a few individuals to twenty or several hundred. Pods have unique dialects, which are learned and transmitted within the group, helping maintain cohesion and serving as a form of "family badge". Pods often use their range of vocal sounds to make songs that they will sing to each other to mostly strengthen bonds
In Na'vi culture: Some believe that the animal might have the same intelligence as the tulkun which had made the unspoken agreement amongst the clan to not hunt the animal. They are often depicted as protectors of the ocean and its inhabitants, guiding travelers and ensuring balance in the marine ecosystem. Their strong family bonds and cooperative hunting strategies are reflected in their symbolism of family, harmony, and social structure are featured prominently in Veykx'u art and storytelling, often depicted as powerful and respected figures.
Some believe belukha grampus have spiritual power and are guardians of the sea. They also represent family, community, and protection, particularly for those traveling away from home. Their strong family bonds and cooperative hunting strategies are admired.
Fur color: Counter-shaded, with a dark gray to bluish-black dorsal side and a light gray or silvery-white ventral side. Color can shift to brownish tones before the annual molt, and a dark coat with a pattern of light rings on the back and sides
Anatomy: Pandorans seals have cat-like facial features and short snout, their 'nose' and 'jowls' are actually the three upper portions of a complicated jaw which opens into four parts. They also have a long, muscular, and streamlined bulky body, a large, reptilian-like head with massive jaws, and long, sickle-shaped fore flippers, large sleek eyes are adapted for low-light conditions, with a reflective membrane (tapetum lucidum) that makes the eyes glow in the dark, similar to a terran cat's. The cornea is flattened to allow for clear vision in both air and water.
Behavior: To survive in the cold climate and to hide from predators, Pandoran seals will make snow dens around their breathing holes to act as protection. These breathing holes and dens are constantly maintained by using their teeth and their strong, thick claws on their fore and mid-flippers. The lairs provide a warmer, more stable microenvironment, protecting pups (which are born with a white, woolly coat but little blubber) from the extreme cold and wind.
Females give birth to one or sometimes two pups, in the lairs and nurse them there for several weeks.
They prefer to live and hunt alone and maintain wide spacing from each other, as they are very aggressively territorial with other Pandoran seals that intrude close to them. Pandoran seals can also blow air bubbles under the sea ice that merges together, creating a accessible air pocket. This air pocket will also help melt the ice and create a new breathing hole.
Communication: During breeding season, they are very vocal, with males using complex underwater vocalizations and "clapping" sounds, possibly to attract females and ward off rivals.
In Na'vi culture: Pandoran seals are a main source of sustenance, and materials for clothing and tools.
Anatomy: These are a sub-species of viperwolf, resembling very closely to actual viperwolves. Unlike the viperwolves that live in the subarctic grasslands, these viperwolves live in the far north and are twice the size of a regular viperwolf, due to adaptation throughout life in the chilly northern pole. Some zoologists had thought that the opposable thumbs that the arctic viperwolf have would be completely useless, seeing it as a adaptation leftover from their time in the subarctic grasslands before possibly migrating north.
However, the arctic viperwolf has used their opposable thumbs to help climb the snowy mountains, scale steep cliffs and glaciers with ease and have used their thumbs to create a three-dimensional hunting field by stalking close to the ground and use their thumbs in combat by climbing and holding onto the back of an animal for better opportunist attacks. They have adapted a thick double layered coats that makes sleeping in the snow comfortable as they curl themselves up to sleep and their coats work so well that any snow that falls on them doesn't melt, but acts as a layer of insulation.
Behavior: When stalking potential prey, a viperwolf can often approach within a few meters of unsuspecting prey and then attack with frightening efficiency, due to its fur coat making it blend in with the snowy environment. Arctic viperwolves don't have a natural fear of na'vi and will often approach na'vi out of curiosity mostly keeping out of sight of the na'vi that they are approaching to avoid conflict. But, they will stalk and hunt lone na'vi if given the chance.
Communication: Like their counterpart, arctic viperwolves live in packs, the pack communicates information about potential prey or predators with facial tics, paw gestures, and audio cues. Arctic viperwolves hunts in groups of 14 to 50, communicating with howling, coyote-like barks, hyena cackles, and snake-like hissing.
Social behavior: Arctic viperwolf packs and have been recorded to show a kind-natured and playful to their own kind, especially around their pups, where they will play with their pups to teach them about pack roles and social dynamics.
In Na'vi culture: Arctic viperwolves are respected for their intelligence, devotion to the pack, and family ties, as they highly value these social values themselves. Arctic viperwolf skins are sometimes used for clothing and ornaments, and are often associated with hunting and the wilderness, embodying both danger and protection in songs, dances, and stories.
Na'vi name: Txanfwerwìuk - "Blizzard shadow" or Teyrkxitx- "White death"
Taxonomy: Gyrpteryxdreki - "Spear-wing dragon"
Habitat: Arctic tundra.
Skin: White and silver with true red highlights that are mixed with black stripe patterns.
Feathers: White, gray, with dark sepia colorization.
Height: 20ft (female) - 26 ft (male).
Length: 248 ft (wingspan).
Weight: 920 lbs (females) 1226 lbs (males).
Eye color: Amber yellow with black pupils.
Anatomy: The gyrpteryxdreki has a robust square head shape with two crests, one on the top of the head, forming a large crest halfway down its neck that is guessed to be used for courtship and balance during flight, and a second crest that is located under its lower jaw. The crests on its head are razor sharp and can be used to injure or disembowel prey and pick away ice and rocks to help carve out caves on cliff ledges. It has extremely powerful jaws that can open at a wide angle, capable of cleanly breaking the bones of its prey. It also has a hooked beak for tearing apart meat.
It possesses four large eyes, the two main eyes are in the front of the skull, and the two others are located near the rectangular antenna bases. Gyrpteryxdrekis uses a third eyelid to protect its four eyes from incoming snow and other elements. Like the snowy banshee, they're covered in feathers that become thicker and fluffier the further it goes down its body, while its head is covered in fuzzy pycnofibers. The wings of the gyrpteryxdreki have little comb-serrations to sneak up on prey more easily and the feathers are highly dense with a natural oily substance that acts as a water repellent to keep the snow and ice off of its body.
It also retains all six limbs, with a middle section having a set of wings and its rearmost pair having legs with powerful taloned feet which are used for grabbing prey, perching on cliff ledges, or to provide a stronger kick while taking off. Its upper front and middle wings have three primary vanes at their tips which have a spear tip shape to them. Its exceptional wingspan allows it to glide over long distances and ride the updraft winds at great heights. The four set of wings have large hooked claws or fingers that are used to cling to cliffs and to walk comfortably on flat ground.
Hunting method: Gyrpteryxdreki uses flap-gliding to cover long distances, soaring and scanning from high distances. When prey is spotted, they will descend in a powerful stoop, aiming to strike the prey with their talons to knock it to the ground before carrying its prey off. These apex predators of the Pandoran arctic mountains, often hunt using blizzards or whiteouts to ambush much larger prey
Behavior: Gyrpteryxdrekis are solitary hunters only really tolerating each other for mating. During the mating season, gyrpteryxdrekis perform elaborate mating dances which involve a series of synchronized, stylized postures, swaying the top head crest, mutual calling, and jaw clacking, often referred to as "dancing". Mating gyrpteryxdrekis often form a strong bond that will last for life. Once a pair bond is established, the bonded pair will fly around the cliffsides of the snowy mountains where the couple will try to find a perfect spot to build their nest, but everything has to have the right conditions for nest building. Once a spot has been picked out, the pair will start to carve out a large cave with their crests, or pick cliff ledges that are well protected from the elements, where the couple will create shallow depressions in the ground and then adding a rim of material like twigs, branches, leaves, and sand, often forming a moat around the nest for protection. Gyrpteryxdreki nests 8 to 10 feet across and 6 to 14 feet deep. Gyrpteryxdrekis are highly territorial when it comes to their nesting sites and young. During the incubation process, both parents will take turns hunting and modifying the nest. The male gyrpteryxdreki will collect nest material, often presenting it as gifts to the female as a way to strengthen the bond.
In Na'vi culture: It is believed that this elusive creature is highly secretive based on how it seems to only be found in snowstorms and the high snowy mountains, with what little the local na'vi population knows about the animal, it is often viewed as an unholy offspring of snow and death and is seen as highly respected. It is considered to be a high honor to help puppeteer a large handcrafted gyrpteryxdreki puppet in ceremonies, dances, and songs. As it takes over fifteen na'vi to operate the entire puppet. The large puppet is most commonly found in the very center of the clan as it seems to ward off actual gyrpteryxdrekis.
Skin: Reddish-black top with a white counter shaded underbelly, or appear to be translucent.
Length: 39ft [12m] – 46ft [14 m]
Weight: 495 kg (1,091) to 700 kg (1,500 lbs)
Anatomy: Thick skin and specialized physiology to survive frigid waters. These squidfins are anatomically identical to their southern relatives, not counting their larger size.
Behavior: Their bioluminescent skin can further light up when they communicate with each other, and blend in with the sea's depths when hunting. These squidfins hunt in groups and can be very aggressive to anything, relentlessly chasing down their chosen target in a coordinated ambush attack as a group.
In Na'vi culture: Colossal squidfin youngsters are hunted by the snow na'vi by ikran dive-fishing, when the squids are close to the surface. Adult colossal squidfins are left for the migrating tulkun pods that pass through the north and direseals that dive down to eat the squidfins.
Skin: Grayish black with bioluminescent indigo and glacier blue stripes
Fur color: White
Height: Approximately 16 ft {4.8m}.
Length: Approximately 4.25 meters.
Weight. 1,200 lbs (544.3 kg).
Anatomy: Arctic direhorses live in the cold climates of the arctic/subarctic grasslands. Unlike their jungle counterpart, they had evolved a short thick coat of white fur. Like their jungle counterpart, the arctic direhorse has queue, undulating constantly and seek out the antennae of other direhorses as they move near to transfer information about food sources and potential dangers to other herd members. Herds often move in unison shortly after touching antennae.
Behavior: Arctic pa'lis travel in herds in the thousands and acting as pollinators, thanks to their extremely long flexible tongues. Arctic direhorses will travel over thousand of miles to the next feeding area. These creatures can maneuver through the deepest snow very easily and can reach top speed very quickly.
In Na'vi culture: The Veykx'u use the arctic direhorse during when they are living at Syawn'ftueywa and mainly for hunting and pulling more heavy sleds and have been used to pull basket like sleds if a na'vi doesn't have a snowy banshee.
Na'vi name: Kxumontu laktalioang - "Thick nose shell sturmbeest" or just: Kxumontu - "Thick nose"
Taxonomy: Pachyrhin monocerii - "Thick-nosed blue cow."
Habitat: Arctic and subarctic regions.
Skin: Black, winter blue, and stripes of white.
Height: 28 ft - 42 ft.
Length: 38 ft.
Weight: 4,000 pounds.
Anatomy: Belonging to the same family group as sturmbeests, has an overgrown mass of bone called a “nasal boss” above its eyes and nose, which transitions into a large nasal crest. It has adapted a hornlike jaw extension that acts as a plow for digging up vegetation and breaking through snow. They also have dual side horns that replace the upper hornlike extension.
They have a very thick and unbreakable form of chitinous back armor that goes all the way down to the head to protect its back and head from predators. The back armor also acts as a form of insulation. The creature has bioluminescent patterns on the ridge and both sides of the body.
The male (or 'bull') is larger than the female and has a large ridge bone on its back, which male ridge bones are bigger than females. Their brain-mass-to-body ratio is low, and the creatures are slow to react and slow to stop reacting.
Behavior: Extremely social and can be found in herds. They are also territorial and will attack against any would-be predator. When attacked, the adults will either encircle the young and present a formidable front of horns that is effective against predators. Or, burst into a stampede and break into smaller packs for evasion, when the threat is too large or in too great a number. They have been known to migrate to the subarctic grasslands for breeding and calving.
In Na'vi culture: Is a vital source of sustenance, clothing, shelter, and tools, and extol the virtue of the animal in textiles, music, song, dance, and art. Like the armor of a sturmbeest, pachyrhinsturmbeest armor becomes resonant and almost indestructible when dried. Na'vi use the dried up armor to make an instrument called: "the hunting drum." This is accomplished by layering the armor, inside the hollowed out shell of a polar whipfang. These instruments are used in a interlocking fashion during pre-hunt rituals and hunting chants.
Habitat: High-altitude alpine tundras, steppes, and cold deserts
Fur color: Dark rusty-brown tints, black to light yellow-brown, with many individuals having mottled white patches over parts of their sides and back.
Height: 10.4 - 14.4 ft
Length: 4.8 to 7.6 meters 4 to 6 feet
Weight: 650–1,200 kg (1,433 - 2,645 ibs)
Anatomy: Apxa'eylans have a stocky body with a slight shoulder hump and possess an incredible thick, long shaggy coat to withstand freezing temperatures. This animal also has a massive, broad head, that is heavily armored due to a 20 - 25 cm thick horn boss that forms a solid protective shield across the forehead that is designed specifically for withstanding high-impact combat in fights. The horns of this animal are long and smooth, while also curve downwards, while connecting to their horn boss. The base of the kurus are covered by the horn boss.
They have broad, cloven hooves with a concave rubbery pad in the center of each hoof, acting as a suction cup, for navigating rocky slopes with great efficiency. They also possess a specialized respiratory systems that is a flexible, prehensile upper lip or a nose similar to a terran saiga antelope as part of their specialized respiratory system for high-altitude, oxygen-poor environments.
Behavior: Apxa'eylans have a incredible calm demeanor to them and are surprisingly docile and gentle around snow na'vi, even act playful around them.
In Na'vi culture: Snow na'vi use apxa'eylans as pack and transport animals when traversing rocky mountainous terrain. It isn't really known when or how the apxa'eylan became friendly towards the snow na'vi, it just seems to be something that always was a thing, ever since the Veykx'u first explored the tundra. While the apxa'eylan aren't domesticated by the Veykx'u, snow na'vi that make a neural link with a apxa'eylan doesn't make a lifelong, exclusive bond. Although, some snow na'vi have shown to have favorites amongst the herd, and occasionally name certain individuals. Killing/hunting an apxa'eylan is heavily restricted to certain hunters, as hunts are accompanied by specialized songs, dances, and strict protocols. Snow na'vi only hunt old apxa'eylan that can't make offspring anymore, and the hunts are made to be very quick and painless for the apxa'eylan. With a celebration taking place after the hunt, which is supposed to celebrate the life of the slain apxa'eylan and help it's soul to Eywa.
Their milk is often turned into different cheeses and is used for mainly as an ingredient, or just eaten by itself. Apxa'eylan meat is mild, slightly sweet flavor with a rich, buttery texture and is only used in festivals or ceremonies, as a way to honor the apxa'eylan.
The hair of the apxa'eylan is used to make high-quality, breathable clothing such as; scarves, shawls, and ruanas. They also use the hair to make blankets and specialized items like theatrical costumes.
Apxa'eylan dung is not only used for fuel, the dung is a main component for fire arrows.
Anatomy: Large rhino-like animals, well-armored and has few predators. Its head and wide mouth are shaped to maximize its capacity to break shells of the toughest fruits, resulting in the mouth being curiously situated above the eyes. Its operculum is located much more higher up than the bladeheads found in the upper plains. It has hair like scales that keep them warm in the cold climate, giving them great insulation. These hair scales have a very shaggy look to it and grows in layers under the armor to develop a strong guard hair.
Behavior: Often living a more solitary lifestyle. The woolly bladehead has keen eyesight and hearing. When threatened, by large predators it lowers itself to the ground where it is protected by its enormous backplate, making it almost impossible to tip.
The plow-like head is highly efficient in pushing through the most deepest of snow and can even use their head to dig up food through the snow. It can also be applied aggressively. A charging woolly bladehead can wreck and flip vehicles, and completely devastate AMP suits with its considerable body mass. Unlike the other herbivores that migrate to the subarctic for the later seasons, woolly bladeheads stay all season round thanks to the fat reveres that the woolly bladehead makes over the warmer seasons and their "shaggy" hair-scales keep them warm over the winter seasons.
In Na'vi culture: Woolly bladehead figures are made for the use of didactic tools to teach valuable lessons about the clan's culture and traditions. They are seen as powerful creatures, often representing strength, resilience, and courage through the stories, dances, and songs that is shared among the clan.
Anatomy: Tsoflìäì are built to live in steep, rocky terrain. Its deep chest and tremendously developed shoulder muscles gives tsoflìäìs the strength for climbing near vertical cliffs. A tsoflìäì’s hooves have rough-textured traction pads that project slightly past the rim of the hooves and make them highly specialized for rocky, slippery terrain. Also, its toes can spread widely to distribute its weight over more ground and close pincer-like around rocky projections to provide extra traction on steep downhill slopes. Tsoflìäì's have two distinctive long spiraling horns with a sleek surface that are tightly spiraled in a V-shaped, reaching up to 8 ft.
Behavior: Tsoflìäìs live on precipitously steep rocky cliffs so they can quickly escape predators. They are generally solitary though females are highly social and will form "nursery groups" that consist of mostly offspring with a few adult females watching over the offspring, with one lead female which mostly is responsible for birthing most, or all of the offspring in the herd. Male tsoflìäìs are mostly solitary and when fighting or competing with other males, they will aim for hindquarters and bellies occasionally piercing internal organs with fatal results.
Tsoflìäìs dig 25-50 mm deep depressions in soil or snow to rest. Herds would use this deep depressions to keep offspring in, for the night, where they could rest and stay in one place. When threatened, tsoflìäìs move to higher, steeper terrain.
In Na'vi culture: Tsoflìäìs are regarded as powerful, they are often portrayed in stories emphasizing respect for nature and community.
Tsoflìäìs are often use tsoflìäìs monitor environmental health, as they are sensitive to changes with their environment.
Appearance: Adult kinglor have four patterned wings, the backs of their thoraxes are covered in an extreme thick, soft fur and their large heads are adorned with feathery antennae. The underside of the kinglor reveals a black, chitinous exoskeleton and a long, venomous stinger which remains concealed unless the kinglor is threatened. Kinglor have been observed attacking larger creatures en masse.
Behavior: From eggs, the caterpillar-like kinglor larvae hatch from lightweight, silk-lined shelters that are often placed underground in small litter burrows. Once in their caterpillar-like form, the woolly kinglor will start to develop glycerol that will act as a natural antifreeze, which, when they have reached adulthood, will allow them to freeze and thaw repeatedly over many years without dying. Woolly kinglors feed on sapling foliage at ground level to build mass before climbing trees or rock crevices and cocooning themselves in protective silk. After a period of metamorphosis, an adult woolly kinglor emerges. Woolly kinglors live and nest in close community groups around a single fertile queen and are often found flying in swarms. These close communities are mostly built near grooves or underground nesting burrows that are often located under tightly packed rocks or crevices.
Adult woolly kinglors feed on the pollen of many different flowers that bloom in the warm seasons. The queen woolly kinglor will lay clusters of eggs in the underground burrows that are made.
In Na'vi culture: The silk that the woolly kinglor produces, is harvested by the snow na'vi, to make clothing. But, due to woolly kinglor silk is incredibly strong, being ten times as strong as steel and is often used as a building or crafting component.
Anatomy: The arctic hexapede shows a very close resemblance to their jungle counterparts. Like their counterpart, they still have their retractable fan structures. Their eye pattern have bright colors with little spikes that poke out around the fan, severing as a defense mechanism. Tundra hexapedes have adapted specialized ribs and muscles in their neck that can be pulled outward to create a hood which can also be used alongside their fan to make them look bigger. The hood also helps with keeping their body warm and is used in mating rituals. Arctic hexapedes have been observed using their hood to release a scent that warns others of danger. Unlike the regular hexapede, tundra hexapedes have two long prong-antlers that are flattened and project forward. These antlers are used to scrape snow and soil for food.
The hexapede's feathery scent organs are covered in small fuzz and are fairly more smaller than regular hexapedes. They can also use their scent organs to tell which direction food and predators are.
Their eyes are wide-spaced and large, and they have sloped snouts that end in a small bifurcating jaw and bifurcated lip that can be retracted. A dewlap of skin hangs under the jaw and runs the length of the neck. The snout can also function like a respirator, warming and humidifying inhaled air. Twin lines of thick insulated dark, hair like bristles run down the back. A long, thin neck and legs ending in round, beveled wide hooves
Behavior: These docile creatures appear to have little hostility either among their own herd or in the presence of a predator. They are only moderately fast runners, although they can weave, bob and turn with ease through the snow. They travel in herds estimated to be around 758,100. Due to the hexapede's rapid breeding, females can store around thousands of fertilized eggs in their uterus and will go through at least four thousand calves during the entire calving season as arctic hexapede calves are precocial young and always quadruplets. During the birthing process, the calves are contained in a large fleshy sack that helps carries all four calves through the birthing process, which the calves can break through the sack. dissolves quickly can survive by themselves after a week of being weaned which results in colonies of youngsters that often branch out from their parent herd.
In Na'vi culture: The hexapede is one of the main food sources of the Veykx'u. The snow na'vi actually have a strict hunting rule that forbids any hunter to hunt any of the young colonies during the calving season. Their skins are used for clothing and instruments, while their fan structures are used for decoration and their hoods are used for medicine bags.
Habitat: Cold high-elevation talus slopes and alpine tundras.
Fur color: Mix of gray, tawny-brown, or chestnut with a dark dorsal stripe with golden-yellow streaks. In the cold season, the fur turns completely white.
Length: 5 and 23 cm (5.9 to 9.1 inches).
Weight: 120-350 grams (4.2 to 12.3 ounces).
Anatomy: Extremely thick fur coat with a very round body, with short limbs and kurus. Their paws are covered in fur with pads to aid movement on rocky, cold terrain.
Behavior: These small low-slung creatures have the ability to change their fur to disguise themselves as rocks.
During the cold seasons, Uäeyflatx neighbour territories tend to overlap very closely together, forming large colonies where everyone in the colony will spend the cold seasons in complex tunnel systems built under the snow that are created by a colony, relying on stored food caches that were stored away in the warm seasons. By the warm seasons, the Uäeyflatx will spread out from the colony and goes back to living in their own territory where they will refill their caches for the next cold seasons, where they will live in cooperative family groups with high rates of social bonding.
Uäeyflatx use calls for alarm, defense, and to coordinate with neighbors to send warning alarm calls to alert their family and neighbour groups of predators such as rammanuls. Which, like terran meerkats, they have different calls for different threats. Territorial defense often involves aggressive displays of calls.
In Na'vi culture: The Veykx'u will use the alarm calls of the uäeyflatx to alert them of predators in the areas.
Anatomy: Similar to the Hammerhead titanothere, except they have two pairs of tusks that twist like a corkscrew. The left and right tusks twist in opposite directions. These tusks are located under the hammerhead structure. The woolly hammerhead has a mixture of hair like scales, and dense fur that keeps them warm in the cold climate, which both, the hair like scales and the dense fur get longer as they age, giving them great insulation. These hair scales are very soft to the touch and grow in layers to develop guard hair. The dense fur covers their upper section and acts a second layer, as the fur is interwoven with the scales, adding more insulation. During the warmer seasons, the woolly hammerheads actually shed their dense fur, so that the fur is mostly under their body plates. The woolly hammerhead has also evolved specialized cushion feet that act as shock absorbers, that help woolly hammerheads to not sink in the snow, but help it traverse icy ground.
The wooly hammerheads have a soft hair on their underbelly, which the guard hairs start to grow around to protect it's vulnerable underbelly. They can store food in it's stomach and it use it later for energy, which can help during long journeys. They have four eyes that have a third eyelid to block out snow during snowstorms.
Behavior: Woolly Hammerheads travel in large herds, which can consist of 16-350 individuals. Herds are led by matriarchs, like modern elephants. They are non aggressive creatures towards the local na'vi, which they have a mutualism symbiotic relationship with. They often uses their hammerhead to push away the snow to get at the buried vegetation and use the knobs at the ends of their hammers to knock food off of trees or just break down trees to get access to the more higher up fruit. They use their tusks for defense, dig around for food, and fight one another for territory and mating.
In Na'vi culture: The woolly hammerhead is highly respected amongst the Veykx'u clan, and the Veykx'u clan is part of the largest woolly hammerhead superherd in the northern pole, most thanks to the snow na'vi's symbiotic relationship with the woolly hammerheads.
The Veykx'u use them as mounts and built mobile home platforms on their backs that can be easily removed. During the time that the clan spends the warmer seasons at Syawn'ftueywa, the Veykx'u have their huts removed from the woolly hammerheads and let them roam the near by forests to give birth and watch over their young. The woolly hammerheads, that live with the Veykx'u, also have their very own songcord.
Na'vi name: Pxi'utraltsyìp txal - "Sharp bush back".
Habitat: Arctic tundra and high mountainous environments.
Skin: Black and bright bioluminescent stripes.
Height: 2 feet {24 inches}
Weight: 40 to 70 lb
Eye color: Both eyes are pitch black
Fur color: White and dark brown with a bright bioluminescent stripe pattern going down its back
Anatomy: Thick, stocky body with short legs. Tundra devils have short quills that surround its body. The quills and fur can poof up when threatened and extend to a longer length. These extended parts of the quills are coated in a psychoactive venom, and also work as insulation. The quills can also duck neatly in the fur when not in use. Tundra devils have large paws and strong claws that are designed for digging through snow and ice, they also use their claws to build burrows and dig holes to create a "freezer" for storing food. Due to their thick bodies, tundra devils have the ability to twist their heads around and bite their attacker even when gripped. Tundra devil's also have a special anus pouch that is used for defense.
Behavior: These creatures live a fearless solitary lifestyle, quite known for their tenacity and aggression even sometimes challenging much larger predators or just about anything that comes in close proximity to them. They will often use their quills as a threat display and will turn their anus pouches inside out and prolapsing it, creating a extremely foul and disgusting liquid and odor and charges at their opponent until they back off. Tundra devils have been recorded to be opportunistic feeders and have been shown to be primarily nocturnal and to act fiercely when defending their territories.
Communication: Tundra devils communicate through raspy screams, shrieks, growls, snorts and grunting vocalizations. Which ironically gave the creature it's name as the calls reminded RDA scientists of the terran Tasmanian devil.
In Na'vi culture: Tundra Devil quills are used for dream hunts, and their anus pouches are used by shamans for rituals. Their meat is often versatile and delicious with a gamey after taste.
Skin: Almost black to almost blue with hints of silvery-gray-cinnamon-brown on the flanks. The muzzle, throat, and belly are light grey scattered with dark grey and black spots.
Fur color: Counter-shaded with a silvery-gray-cinnamon-brown to dark gray blend and a distinctive spotted "leopard" coloration pattern dorsally.
Height: Females: 4.6 ft (1.40 m) - 21 ft (6.4 m). Males: 26ft (7.9 m) - 34.67 ft (10.5 m)
Length: Females: 19 ft (5.8 m) - 30 ft (9.1 m). Males: 16 ft (4.8 m) - 37 ft (11.2 m).
Weight: 2,250 kg (females) 5,350 kg (males).
Anatomy: Long thick bodies that have extremely thick layers of a blubber like substance that works suspiciously close to how blubber that earth animals have. Direseals have four long upper canine teeth that grow throughout their lives. The outer tusks will grow as the inner tusks will be used as backups in case the outer tusks are broken. They use their tusks for many purposes, including establishing social dominance, fighting, and hauling themselves out of the water. Males tend to have longer, straighter, and stouter tusks that can grow to 200 cm (78 inches), while females can grow their tusks to 160 cm (62 inches).
They have large broad, tapered, square almost reptilian heads with two long queues that can shrink down to protect them during combat and long snouts and massive jaws. Adult male direseals have a large, inflatable proboscis (snout) that they use to amplify their vocalizations. When not using their inflatable snout, it will deflate and retract into the direseal's head where it would be protected from attacks. Like modern walruses, direseals have large bumps that cover the neck and the shoulders. Their operculum closes up when they are in the water.
They have long, large fore-flippers and can curl their back flippers under their bodies to make them walk on all fours. Direseals have the unique ability to make their flippers into legs; after getting out of the water to rest, their flippers will soon start to dry up, making their flippers spread out more and exposing their claws. Once their flippers are fully dried up, direseals can use their claws to maneuver the icy land more easily. This can also work in reverse; as a protective layer of skin will revert the claws back to flippers when direseals enter the water. Direseal claws are long and curved to help them keep them from sliding around on the ice and help groom themselves. Direseals use sinuous whole body movements, rather than relying heavily on their flippers as a way of swimming through the icy waters.
Behavior: Direseals mainly stay on the beaches and the ocean sea ice. During mating season, males fight over the best breeding spots by using their weight and canine teeth to rake each other's necks. Fights can last for hours and end up being very, very bloody but are rarely fatal. They may go into torpor during the day to conserve energy.
Direseals lie in close body contact with each other to conserve heat. This behavior may also help with molting. They establish dominance through threat displays, body size, and tusk length. The main diet of direseal primarily consists of Pandoran arctic fish, bivalves, cephalopods, crabs, aerial fauna, and nalutsa. But has been known to feast on vegetation when food sources are low. Direseals use their queues to search the ocean floor for food and can detect subtle changes in water currents and pressure caused by the movement of prey.
Communication: They communicate using vision, sound, touch, and chemicals. Males use a coughing roar to recognize each other and assess size. They are known to vocalize underwater during the earlier seasons. These sounds are thought to be part of a long-range acoustic display to attract mates or establish territory. During the mating season, they use sounds like knocks and loud whistles to attract a mate.
In Na'vi culture: The Veykx'u hunt direseals for their meat, which is used as an ingredient in one of the celebratory meals that the Veykx'u make. Direseals provide the Veykx'u meat, fat, and hides for clothing, tools, instruments and housing. Tusks are used in carvings, various tools, and are carved into figures for story telling and several toys of different animals to familiarize children with the animal.
Skin: A very light top that is decorated with markings all around its body with a dark bottom with distinct bioluminescent spots.
Length: 48 - 78 cm.
(Female) 49 - 88 cm.
Weight: 0.6 to 17.8 kg.
Anatomy: Skom taronyu have a slender, elongate body and a moderately flattened, kite-like shape head, protruding a flat fin like sail that goes down along the body and have venomous spines on the outline of the fin and down the back, making a sort of dorsal fin. Skom taronyus have six curved pectoral fins that are under the flat sail fin. The snout is narrow, tapering to a pointed tip. The eyes are moderately large with a pair of smaller eyes behind it's much larger eyes. They also use their sturdy beaks to crush hard shells, or tear apart tough skin/plants.
Behavior: These animals are opportunistic feeders, consuming a variety of prey which can include: schooling fish, cephalopods, and mollusks. They have even been known to feast on carcasses on the ocean floor. They also have been documented having a more omnivorous diet when given the chance.
Strong social behavior, often forming large schools for hunting and protection, with a reputation for being quite the aggressive predator, although the skom taronyus have been documented having a more omnivorous diet, often feeding on the lichens and algae that grows under the sea ice. They are generally harmless to na'vi/avatars unless they are mishandled.
In Na'vi culture: Source of sustenance, resources, and even a symbol in art and storytelling.
Anatomy: The polar sagittaria has a near identical look to the sagittaria, expect for it's body as it has more brighter bioluminescent markings to lure unsuspecting prey in, while it's shell was a more snowy white to match with the ice and snow.
Behavior: Like the sagittaria, Polar sagittarias can survive in both freshwater and saltwater, mostly living in large lakes and under the sea ice where they would act as predators to the many aquatic life that feast on the plants that grow on the sea ice. While also often recorded snacking on the plants that grew on the ice. Polar sagittarias also act as scavengers, often feeding on the ocean floor and cleaning up any carcasses that they come across. Polar sagittarias primarily consumed crustaceans, as well as dead fish and other organic matter.
In Na'vi culture: The shells are made into horns, knifes, as their meat is used for medical practices and are oddly enough are portraited in stories and songs as soul collectors who travel the ocean floor and collect souls from carcasses that have sank to the ocean floor, storing the souls in their shell before going to bring them to the all mother so the souls could be reborn.
Anatomy: Zize'rong are shaped much like a typical hellfire wasp. Zize'rongs have hard exoskeleton, compound eyes, bioluminescence, and each wasp has two pairs of wings that allow them to heat their body to stay warm. Their slender, elastic waists allow for great maneuverability which can help with squeezing through the most smallest and tightest spaces. They have sharp spikes on their heads, forelimbs, and tails, rendering them dangerous prey for predators to eat.
An adaptation that zize'rongs have devolved such as a long, thick "fur coat" of hair acts as insulation to trap heat.
When they attack, zize'rongs utilize the spikes on their forelimbs and head to grip hold of their target. Then they use their tails, equipped with a double hooked dual-stingers, to cause long slashes and lacerations across the skin.
"Queen" zize'rongs do not look that different in size queen wasps are just the most dominant female in the hive.
Behavior: Zize'rongs make their nests deep in the ground and in glaciers or mountain sides. Their nests are coated in soft insulation where the soft coating of the zize'rong and the insulation of the hive will rub against each other, creating static electricity that zize'rongs can store in their coats and use to defend their hive against creatures that have stumbled upon their hive.
Like the direhorses that roam the tundras, zize'rongs act as pollinators, zize'rongs not only pollinate plants, but they use the pollen to create a nectar that will be used to keep insulation in the hive; the nectar would help keep the materials that are gathered to insulate the hive, to stay in place.
Zize'rongs also act as decomposers, usually taking chunks of dead meat to their hive to feed workers and help develop larvae. in the cold seasons, zize'rongs will often use their wings to generate heat. The nectar that the wasps had collected, is used to coat the eggs that the queen had laid and the nectar coating will help the larvae keep warm.
All adults in the hive (expect for the queen) have their stingers, legs, and wings, torn off by the queen and are fed to the larvae, to make way for a new generation of hive members. While this may seem barbaric, this actual helps the larvae develop a taste for meat and develop their venom that their stingers.
In Na'vi culture: In Veykx'u culture, zize'rongs are viewed as powerful entities that hold influence over souls. life cycles of other species' souls: It is believed, that zize'rongs can collect souls of the dead that they feast on, where the souls are said to be stored in zize'rong's nests during the cold season, before wasps release the souls, in the warm seasons, to return to Eywa.
Habitat: Alpine tundra and rocky steppes, subarctic boreal forests, coastal areas, and even on sea ice.
Fur color: Their coats are a mixture of a rusty-reddish-brown, russet, and pure white.
Skin: Dark (often blackish).
Height: 4ft.
Weight: 16 to 32 pounds.
Length: 4 - 5.4 ft.
Anatomy: Large broad head with a short snout with big pointed joints that connect to their kurus. These joints can rotate 360° which these animals can use this to their advantage, as they can extend their kurus to help them detect the most extreme, faintest sounds. They also have a well-developed third eyelid protects their eyes from dust and wind.
Fore and hind limbs are short in length, allowing for headfirst descent. Five curved digits with sharp, retractable claws for climbing and an opposable thumb.
They have a stocky build, and a thick layer of fat under their skin that acts as insulation and energy storage. Ramtieras have extremely long dense fur that can make them look larger than they are. Which they use to their advantage to make themselves look more threatening. Ramtieras have the unique ability to seasonally change their fur's color to aid in camouflage. A thick layer of fat under the skin is used for insulation and energy storage.
A long bushy tail helps to balance when climbing on steep ledges. Ramtireas uses their tails as makeshift scarfs to help provide themselves with warmth.
Behavior: Ramtirea are very skillful and acrobatic animals that predominantly stay in mountain ranges, living a solitary lifestyle as these animals are naturally shy.
In Na'vi culture: Revered in songs as spirits of the snowy mountains, embodying resilience in harsh lands. Is often used on emblems for travelers that travel through the mountains, these emblems are often used during trade with the windtraders. The Veykx'u believe that seeing this animal will bring good fortune.
Shaman Kooteyil actually once saved a rammanul kitten's life when she was traveling from the snowy mountains and now the rammanul hasn't left Kooteyil's side ever since.
Location: The location of this tree is shrouded in mystery as the clan keep the information on the location of the Tree of Spirits, as a very close kept secret.
Appearance: The Tree of Spirits is a special type of willow tree that is covered in layers of frost and thick ice, with carvings decorating both the exterior and interior of the tree; these carvings were made by many of the past tsahìks that have made the journey. While standing under the tree, it will show that the outer layer of tendrils is completely frozen solid and will shimmer and glow, creating a grand display of colors and lights. While the inner area is surrounded by unfrozen tendrils, which na'vi can connect their kurus to.
Cultural significance: The Veykx'u believe that spirits live inside the tree, awaiting to be reborn once more; no one knows what exactly the spirit will be reborn as, though many have guessed that a spirit will be reborn as an animal or be reborn back into the clan. It is also said that only the wisest and most experienced tsahìk can guide new couples or na'vi to the tree in order to bond and mate in front of Eywa.
Location: These plants are located on the snowy mountains and grow near cliff ledges, or found in clusters on the tundra.
Appearance: This tree can com in varies sizes, based on where it grows. The ones that grow in the tundra plains grow to be towering sizes that grow woody dark purplish-pink, spiral scales as bark. While ones that grow on the mountain cliff ledges, grow to be more shorter, but produce more fruit.
Traits/behavior: The scales on a frostpine can actually grow seeds which can turn into fruit. One way that the tree disperses this fruit is to shoot out their fruit in one big "explosion" when the tree is disturbed. Due to how fast the fruit are jettisoned off in several directions, which thanks to the extremely hard shell, one good hit from these fruits could break the skull of any that fall into the line of fire.
The frostpine gets it's name from developing a protective layer or frost and ice, after shooting out it's fruit. This makes sure that that the tree is protected from animals or harsh elements. The fruit of these trees apparently are a favourite food source for woolly bladeheads, who have strong jaws to crack open the hard shell of the fruit.
In Na'vi culture: Frostpine is the perfect material to be used for crafting and is mostly used to make platforms, as the wood is light enough for woolly hammerheads to carry on their backs, but hard enough to support the weight of the hut and the na'vi. The fruits of these trees are more used for long ranged weapons, instead of being consumed, as the actual fruit is mostly used as a preserve and is to be eaten during desperate times.
Thanks to selective planting from the snow na'vi, groves of frostpine grow around Syawn'ftueywa, which helps the Veykx'u farm frostpine trees more easily.
Appearance: A large tree that grows in large clusters of forests all around the Pandoran arctic. They grow a white fruit, baring purple to dark red, to pink. The fruit resembles the shape of the earth cocoa bean. When the fruit has ripened, it will produce an outer fuzzy like coat.
In Na'vi culture: The taste of the fruit is sweet and is often used as a dessert in celebrations. The fruit is also used in a very popular dessert called: "Kalinwusto" meaning sweet dinner. Some avatars that have tasted it, have noted that the fruit almost tastes like fortune's fruit and a mix of chocolate.
Na'vi name: Kalin utraltsyìpzet - "Sweet bush treat"
Habitat: Arctic tundra.
Length: 2.4 centimeters long.
Height: 4ft.
Appearance: The shrub has deep fruit that is buried deep in the snow to absorb water to make the tough, yet soft protective layers of mossy leaves.
The fruit is a light purple with icy highlights, with a very thick outer shell. The fruit has a oval shape with a white, fleshy pulp inside. The pulp is described as having a similar taste to banana fruits and is full of nuts which has a sweet, yet sour taste .
In Na'vi culture: This plant is used as a food source and due to the fruit being buried deep within the snow, the Veykx'u will dig out the fruit and use the fruit in meals while using the moss as seasoning, bedding, or to make toys.
Appearance: Kalinngrrs grow in clusters on short trees that have the uncanny ability to enclose their leaves to form a hard exterior to protect it's vulnerable interior, exposing it's sharp spines which are located all around the tree and the spines are even located on and in between the leaves of the tree. The hardened exterior and spines are a defense mechanism against herbivores and it can also store water in its tissues so it can make more kalinngrrs and tracks the sun, maximizing heat collection for reproduction.
Kalinngrrs have a tough leathery skin with a spikey exterior. Kalinngrrs are naturally sweet with a hint of nuttiness. They are also described to have a tangy taste to it sometimes.
In Na'vi culture: The Veykx'u use many parts of the tree, the leaves can be harvested and can be ground up and used as herbs.
In Veykx'u culture, kalinngrr symbolizes hospitality and welcoming, even fertility and is used mostly as a go-to meal for having guests or family over and is a main ingredient in kalinwusto. Kalinngrsr have also been known to grow near Syawn'ftueywa as the warmer temperature makes the plant make more fruit than they usual would.
Appearance: Large, foliose lichen like moss that is goldish-purple when dry and bright green when wet. The lower surface is bright icy blue at the edges and darker purple towards the center with a reflective thallus surface, physiological mechanisms for photosynthesis. They can absorb water from saturated air and from snow and can enter a dormant state when conditions are too harsh, conserving energy until conditions improve. The moss also produces a mushroom like fungi that has hallucinogenic properties. The lichen is also a main food source for many different herbivores in the northern pole of Pandora. This mushroom has many shiny, bubble shaped nodules on its cap to which these nodules will get bigger over time when fermenting.
In Na'vi culture: Pandoran arctic lichens are used to make clothing and dyes of various colors. The lichen is also used for medical purposes; it has been used as a remedy, aliment, and has antibiotic properties.
During the time when the Veykx'u were transitioning between living on the beaches and moving further inland, many young na'vi had accidentally became addicted to the hallucinogenic mushrooms that the lichen provides, until the tsahìk had put a stop of overconsumption of the mushroom and is only used for the Veykx'u version of the dream hunt.
Appearance: The arctic cloud spitter grows on tundras, and thrives when buffeted by strong winds, away from areas of shade and tree cover. The arctic cloud spitter has an indistinguishable resemblance to cloud spitters that grows in the windswept grasslands. Within this flower matures a pointed seedpod which emerges from the top of the tightly closed flower when ripe.
Thriving on open tundra plains, arctic cloud spitters. These plants will track the position of the sun. The seed of the explosive cloud spitter is encased in a nodular, armored shell. It is well adapted to survive a tough landing after being ejected from its parent plant.
Traits/behavior: In the fruiting state, when the plant is disturbed, the cloud spitter’s flower “explodes” and its highly elastic cell walls catapult seed pods in a long, high arc, leaving a cloudy trail of floating on the breeze. This dramatic example of ballistic seed dispersal gives the Cloud Spitter its name. One unique adaptation that the arctic variant has is; when the seed is fired out, the seed will deploy a small parachute sail so the seed could ride the winds and travel further distances.
In Na'vi culture: The seed of this plant is considered a staple food for the snow na'vi, harvesters that have the most experienced with this plant, often predicts where the seed where land, based on the direction and how strong the wind is and easily gathered. Young snow na'vi children will make a game of trying to sneak close to the plant without triggering an ejection, and then chasing the flying seed when they inevitably fail. Clan elders encourage this game as it is considered a good introduction to vital hunting and tracking skills.
Habitat: Grows in small groves around Syawn'ftueywa, in mountain groves that grow around the snowy mountains, or tundra steppes.
Appearance: The tree is tall with icy blue globular structures supported by the branches.
Height: 10 meters.
Length: 5 meters.
Traits/behavior: The pods of these trees are filled with hydrogen gas and sodium hydroxide, which makes them very delicate as the pod of the puffball tree will explode if provoked. As the pod explodes, it spreads the spores of the puffball tree.
In Na'vi culture: Arctic puffball tree's pods are carefully extracted by the snow na'vi so that they can be used for slings or bolas, as the gaseous pod's flammable properties are only used for warfare. Like the more warmer climate puffball trees, snow na'vi harvest the leaves and grind them up to make salt. Which can be used as seasoning in cooking.
Firmoss Dynasy is not set in the exact same universe as Warrior Cats, and thus there are some core differences in expected behaviours of Warriors. This outstretches into the Warrior Code having some stark differences while sharing a lot of the same. The code goes as follows:
1. Defend your Dynasty, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Dynasties, but your loyalty must remain to your Dynasty, as one day you may meet them in battle.
2. Do not hunt or trespass on another Dynasty's territory
3. Elders, queens, sick or injured cats and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders.
This rule is often flux when it comes to high prey situations.
4. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to The Sky Dynasty for its life.
5. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice. If the kit is not ready to be apprenticed at six moons, they may be apprenticed later.
A kit between being a kit and an apprentice is allowed to participate to in-camp apprentice activities but holds no responsibilities that apprentices do. Pre-apprentices are often affectionately referred to as “Fledglings.” There are many reason for a kit to become a Fledgling temporarily. Shinepaw, for example, was going through being a Fledgling because of needing time to heal from an injury. Windpaw was a Fledgling while she decided what path she wished to walk.
6. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
The rule about a deputy needing to have had an apprentice is not present in this universe.
7. The remaining King or Queen will become Dynasty leader when the acting King or Queen dies, retires, or is exiled.
While not common, Leaders may also retire their duties early. In this case, The Sky Dynasty will invite both the leader and deputy to a ceremony to switch over the old leader’s lives to the deputy.
8. After the death, retirement, promotion (to a leader status), or exile of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
9. A Gathering of all four Dynasties is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among dynastiess at this time.
Gatherings are cherished and looked forward to by most dynasty cats. Sometimes the dynastiess hold little games for their enjoyement!
10. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily.
Part about challenging all trespassing cats has been removed. The dynastiess in this universe are much more tolerant of loners, rogues and kittypets.
11. No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different dynasties.
12. The word of the King and Queen is the warrior code.
However, the King and Queen serve their dynasty. The dynasty may overthrow the leader as a group decision if the leader is abusing of their power. In this case, either the remaining King or Queen or Menders will take the leading position, depending on the situation.
13. An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win their battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense.
14. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.
The dynasties are known to recruit willing kittypets, however.
15. Each Dynasty has the right to be proud and independent, but in times of trouble they must forget their boundaries and fight side by side to protect the four. Each Dynasty must help the others so that no Dynasty will fall.
Additional rules:
The Moon Cave is a sacred ground, travelling there to meet with The Sky Dynasty is a sacred journey that cannot be disturbed. Even if it means crossing borders.
There must always be at least one serving Mender in each dynasty. If one Dynasty suffers an accident and loses all their menders, the other dynasties are to help them regain their footing.
Menders are held in high regard in this universe. There is no rules against Menders having kits of their own, as long as there is another serving mender that can uphold their duties. The entire dynasty is the family of the mender, they must not hold favourites regardless of blood familiarity.
Extra notes:
These rules are ancient and decades old. You may Ask Silverpelt about the creation of the four dynasties, if you are curious. She may have things to say regarding the warrior code.
Since the Code is ancient, it is followed but can be lenient if a new and difficult situation is to arise. Certain rules do not apply during crisis’.
Worshipped by Oaisiclan, to ensure them a life in luxury and general well-being. He is also said to have brought the fire to the Temple, which is stilk used in many rituals.
His offerings are gold from the temple and different meats Oasisclan hunts.
alright, alright! settle down, feisty young’un’s, and i’ll tell you about how our clans came to be-! hey, joykit, get off of your brother! foxkit, get off my tail- dandelionkit, no, you can’t search me for fleas- didn’t you want me to tell you all the story of the clans?!
that’s right, quiet down! if any of you make even a single squeak while i’m speaking, you’ll never hear this story again!
alright. now, how did it start again...? oh, right!
now, you see kits, this was long, long ago, way before breezeclan, cloudclan, rubbleclan, caveclan, or roseclan were even thoughts!
it’s said that we descended from clans before us, named; thunderclan, windclan, shadowclan, skyclan, and riverclan.
thunderclan was couragous and strong; windclan was sleek and fast; shadowclan was sly and cunning; riverclan was beautiful and stream-lined; and skyclan was swift and boisterous.
these five clans thrived for many generations, facing many dangerous foes. but alas, all that is good must come to an end.
over time, the clans dispersed.
shadowclan was first, ran out from their home by vicious, beady-eyed beasts called rats, whose eyes were as red as blood.
thunderclan and skyclan were next, the trees they lived amongst taken by wretched things named twolegs. oh- squirrelkit, don’t fret! twolegs don’t anywhere near us!
anyways, after the departure of shadowclan, thunderclan, and skyclan, for a long time only windclan and riverclan were left. and even then, as years passed, the two remaining forgot their old traditions, and even their own names, only becoming wind group and river group.
and then, just as the last fragments of their old life were going to be lost, it is said that a moonclan warrior by the name of ‘wind-runner’ chose a young, blind tom of the name heartspot. wind-runner spoke to heartspot, telling him of the ways of the clans, and convincing him to travel with other cats to a new land to rebuild the clans.
and that is what heartspot did! he gathered his friends, the closet being cloudjump and rosedew, and the three set off!
the journey was long and difficult. many of their cats passed on the way, either from badgers, foxes, sickness, starvation, or their own exhaustion.
but when they arrived to our territories, they were overbound with glee. of course, before the final three arrived, there were two of our clans already settled.. and i would love to continue to tell you about them...
oh, but the sun is setting! soon your mothers will come to guide you back to the nursery. come back later, and i shall continue with the early history of clans!- hey! foxkit, what did i say about getting on my tail?!
