It's getting irritating that LARGE and POPULAR indie animation fanbases bootlick a company, studio, or its creator and treat them like gods and mob against you for critiquing their behavior in any sort of way.

It's honestly worrying that they parade these companies/creators/studios as the "Saviors of Indie Animation" when instead of supporting the indie animation community as a whole, they decide to find the next "figurehead/paragon" for it.

'Heated Rivalry' Creator Jacob Tierney Answers My Litany of Questions

“Why shouldn't we get some horny good sex for gay people on TV?”

Honestly, seeing these kinds of questions even being asked is… exhausting. They’re invasive, they’re entitlement wrapped as “curiosity,” and they put actors in a position they should never have to navigate publicly. Jacob handled it incredibly well — but he shouldn’t have had to.

What gets me is how quickly people forget the basics:

No one owes their sexuality to the internet. Not actors, not creators, not anyone.

We don’t interrogate straight actors when they play queer roles or vice versa. We didn’t demand Matt Bomer, Noah Reid, or countless others to justify anything when they crossed orientation lines in their casting. And honestly — have we learned nothing from the Kit Connor situation?

It’s especially ironic because the LGBTQ+ community has fought for decades for the right to choose if, when, and how you share your identity. That includes choosing not to. That includes privacy. That includes not labeling yourself for strangers who think they’re owed something.

We can’t preach “don’t force people to come out” and then turn around and demand real-life personal disclosures from actors simply because we’re attached to their characters.

Just appreciate the performance. Appreciate the story. Enjoy Shane and Ilya for who they are without dragging the real people into parasocial expectations. And maybe take a breath — the entire story is literally about closeted athletes terrified of being outed. Are we missing the point?

Talent doesn’t equal access. Admiration doesn’t equal entitlement.

Let them live their lives without audiences trying to claim ownership over their identities.

I don’t usually post about Invincible but witnessing this sexist hate train against Zoe makes me rationally angry. As far as I know tech jacket saves the world with his TECH JACKET, not with his masculinity.

How many of you have read Tech Jacket comics before invincible? How many of you have had fan pages, fan groups and fan blogs dedicated to Tech Jacket? How many of you were die hard Tech Jacket fans? My close guess is NONE of you! Most of you are only now becoming fanboys to justify these petty, misogynistic takes on Zoe. Not even a child would fall for these nonsense excuses. I actually read the Tech Jacket comics after I read Invincible and there’s a reason why they got discontinued.

And let’s put the cards on the table, before Zoe Thompson there was next to nothing to fan over about Tech Jacket. He is a nothingburger of a character, and that’s okay to admit.

i think something that gets lost or not talked about when it comes to discussions of aspec representation in fandom (which, tbh, there are better things to put our effort towards, but just as an explanation) is that its not *just* about canon rep. sure, its great when there are canon characters, but i think the point is equally about the fandom's willingness to entertain these aspec headcanons at all. that's why, for example, the situation with ryland grace is disappointing. those tags had a bunch of non-partnering or just not partner-centered fan work after the movie comes out, people actually discussing aspec experiences and depictions, even if he is a stereotypical candidate for aspec headcanons, even if he's canonically straight alloallo. and then the internet moves on.

i think i reblogged a post (or maybe ust read it) that says "you cant expect to take the tree (fandom) out of where it grew from (gay/mlm shipping)" but thats not a good argument. trees grow. fandom can grow.
