1. It was not "cHEaTiNg." That's the bullshit narrative Louis fed Daniel to hide the fact the actual problem was his own rejection of vampirism. The moment Louis told Lestat to kill her, she would've been dead. You know, because Louis holds the power. Louis could've put a stop to that "cHEaTiNg" anytime he wanted.

2. Abused Claudia? The same way Louis did?

3. Abused Louis? You mean the one-time fight that was started by Louis, not in gallant defense of Claudia (see above and her actual turning and the reveal Louis truly saw her as a burdensome object of service for himself), but because Louis always blamed Lestat for his own problems and was taking out years-worth of pent-up bitterness and resentment (via Louis' signature propensity to violent rage {see bashing in DreamStat's skull}) aimed at Lestat due to the fact Louis could not, again, accept his vampirism? The one-time fight where it was Louis beating the shit out of Lestat? The one-time fight where Lestat was begging him to stop? The one-time fight where Lestat knew he had this thing (Amel) inside of him? That fight? Or do you mean the drop? The one-time drop where Lestat was possessed (by Amel)? The one-time fight/one-time drop in which Louis nor Claudia were afraid of Lestat in the aftermath and Claudia knew she could poke him and rile him and antagonize him and there would be no actual consequences?

I’ve been digging into the marauders community and it looks like they’re mostly minors and the “adults”are still under 20 years (no surprise there, the way they interact screams minors!), the vast majority are part of the LGBT+ community so in conclusion, they’re twisting Harry Potter to feel more represented (?) but that’s not how literature works, you don’t see people online reassembling novels to fit with their worldview (aside from them). This disconnection seems unique to Harry Potter, you just don’t see this happening with LoTR, A song of Ice and Fire, not even Star Wars.

Everything about it makes no sense, first of all, why Harry Potter? Given their ages they couldn’t be there when the books and the movies were at their prime and certainly by now there are hundreds of children/YA novels with the diversity and inclusion they clearly seek here. Not gonna bother mentioning all the problematic stuff I’ve found in just a few hours and hell, it was a lot. My guess is that a kid somewhere saw Rowling’s beliefs, picked up her book and decided that erasing her authorship, butchering and altering her work was some kind of protest.

Sorry for my rant. Do you have any theory on why it’s Harry Potter their focal point?

I honestly feel exactly the same as you. I mean, there are plenty of really old fandoms and this kind of thing doesn’t happen in any of them. Every fandom has its crack!ships, sure, but people still respect canon and experiment with the characters’ actual dynamics while keeping their personalities intact. No one turns Legolas into a bartender in the middle of Middle-earth and headcanons Gimli as being six feet tall. Sorry, but no. You also don’t rewrite the culture or backstory of characters because you respect them, that’s the whole point. When you’re in a fandom, it’s because you fell in love with a story, you fell in love with its characters, and you want to pay homage to those characters and play around with them. The real ones.

I mean, I have my own characters, my own novel project with its own lore, worldbuilding, and everything. If I want to create my own characters, I make my own stories. I don’t get this need some people have to use their OCs while slapping canon character names on them and then force everyone else to deal with them. Because if you try to look up anything about the Marauders, you have to dig through mountains and mountains of garbage before you find anything remotely canon compliant, because, obviously, they don’t bother tagging it as AU.

And like you said, if you need representation, what are you doing clinging to a book series written in the late ’90s? There are tons of current YA series that are much more modern and actually in tune with today’s generation. I don’t get the point of having to tear down a saga and turn its characters into Frankenstein monsters that are completely unbearable. And the saddest part is that they truly believe it’s some kind of activism against Rowling. Like… no, guys. You’re not going to stop Rowling or ruin her with this. She’s going to stay rich, she’s still a piece of trash, and by using her characters’ names you’re literally giving her free publicity. Do you know who you’re actually screwing over? The normal people who just want to look up or read stuff about certain characters and can’t, because the tags are flooded with your OCs wearing canon names.
