i feel like something people who are new to fandom and joined when shit got mainstream is that you can hate proshippers and want nothing to do with them while still accepting that they are going to be part of fandom spaces no matter what you do, and censoring them just makes everyone's experience worse. block people who ship gross shit and move on, stop trying to make the internet worse for the sake of not having to take 2 seconds to exclude a tag you hate on ao3.
I’m getting slightly concerned by the contexts I see people use the word twink in fandom spaces. I keep seeing ppl, mostly on tiktok, use it as a broad word for a male characters bad fanon interpretations.
And yes, oh god, I’m very aware of the fandom phenomenon of illogically feminizing random male characters while simultaneously ignoring any depth their characters have, usually the queer coded ones. But it rubs me the wrong way that people use the word twink in a demeaning way towards this broadly negative phenomenon. In almost every post I’ve seen “x becoming a twink” is the bad thing they are upset about.
Like dude, real human beings go by that term, it’s a real subsection of gay men. Let’s not start using it as a synonym for fanon which strips away a characters depth and is actually a genuinely bad thing. Lead by tumblrs example, get ur own term for it like woobification to demonize if it has to be your discourse of the week.
whenever someone says they saw a fic of mine on tiktok it gives me that they've walked over my grave feeling lol
