Phew, I did not think I was gonna get this done in time c':

I really enjoyed making this pageset! I was tossing up doing a constellation type theme for Fade's story, but then I had a much better idea and,,, I love,,, cave art so much,,, Past humans making art of animals they actually saw is possibly my favourite thing ;v;

Also, I used a wild mixture of cave art from all over the place because I just wanted to experiment with different styles. Though Homotherium was present in all these areas at some time, so it's not impossible the artists saw them too! Note: none of the actual art I referenced had Homotherium depicted! I just used the artstyles and took liberties, so please don't use it to make up lies about late surviving Homotherium in Chauvet France lmao

Lowkey, would anyone be mad if I changed the style to be like the last page from now on? kidding, haha... Unless... Kindred of the Mammoth is on Comicfury as well!

Previous refs

Bat is actually 9 moons and has grown a fair bit as of Moon 10. But alas, that's the problem with doing refs for characters in a story where they change c':

His and Snake's refs were made/posted in October, but mostly hold up

Steppe and Summit have some bonus notes from when i originally posted them here (also in october)

Seequa, is a Miracinonyx and is not really important but I made him a little ref bc it was world cheetah day cx

And finally! Old man Elmfade! His ref is crowded but i wanted everyone on the same page so i could upload it like this :'D

I used Mauricio Anton's 3D homotherium skull for Fade's headshot, but i sooooo wish I could find the actual model and not that single still of it. Having a decent 3D Homotherium skull to turnaround would be so gooood ;A;

Loooooong moon that i started making in August and only finished now (1st October)

So long, in fact, that i have actually split this page in half since typing this bc it was Bothering Me (and wouldn't upload to comicfury, so enjoy a small bonus moon update coming shortly)

I think the break was good for me bc I'm a lot happier with the characters and anatomy on this moon c:

Colours in the first panel are a paintover/photobashed from a sunset I took on my phone, but I like how it turned out

Lilac has a bow tie in game, but that's... that can't happen he's a 300kg+ sabercat not a domestic kitty

Snares will mess u up though! I had to do a lot of research and I did fudge some things (woven artifacts don't preserve very well) but hopefully it's clear Lilac can't get his head around to bite it without swinging+ claws are actually terrible for slicing (especially Homotherium ones which are only semi-retractable and therefore dull)

Hello partially written Moon update.

Also a bear, it's been like 9 years since i drew a bear (Tokota days) cx

Next update is full comic again (bc there's like 1 speech bubble) then there's 2 more written, beyond that is TBA bc my buffer rn is small (which is probably part of the reason im anxious) QvQ

I'm putting the rest of my comment under the cut tbh bc it's sorta comic-related vent and i don't wanna bum people out c'x

I've honestly been suuuuper anxious about posting this update bc of the half-comic style i tried out, and bc i don't know how well i wrote this scene. I kinda like that more written media lets me give some internal Lilac thoughts, and I can hint at things he knows and wouldn't say aloud. Also this scene,,, would have killed me as a comic, idk how i'd get the emotions across c':

On the other hand im anxious. idk if people will hate it or if people will think my depiction of Burnet suffering is ok (even though it's based on my own experiences with going borderline/entirely non-verbal when faced with questions i desperately need to answer but just can't.)

and then i say "pav why do u care when u are making Kindred for yourself?" and "people (including you) absolutely adore Pinepaw and the Forgotten World" and "fam you are so gd slow even with this style?" but such is life ig

Im trying to find a happy medium bc rn i literally get home from work, draw Kindred for 7 days and that's my week off gone, back to 7x 12hr days then home to rinse and repeat.

The Poppy panel was worth it, i really like how it turned out Also swallows!! they're very important!!

Moon 9 is gonna be A Lot so like, fingers crossed for me :sweat: Is it gonna be like, nearly merry chrysler by the time this escapes the backlog? Probably not far off hmmm Well happy December regardless (it's Nov 10 as i write this)

Special pliestocene rabbit?? Tragically, I couldn't find any specific evidence of Megabunnies so this is probably just a cottontail XD

I have come to increasingly dislike this part of the moon but hey ho >-<

The Ice Fang is not nearly as big as she looks on panel 3 but I'm supposed to be Going Fast so I'm not changing it c'x (her shoulder height isnt terribly higher than a Fleet Fang, she's just significantly bulkier)

Oh yeah I think this is the first time the name Fleet Fang is dropped in-comic, so by my own rules it's actually cannon now, yay!
