In which Pounce's panic attack is interrupted by my FAVOURITE LITTLE GUY!!
U will learn more about him in part 2 uvu
Fun fact, I was gonna have Pounce stalking a giant pleistocene Pika but literally cannot find any reference to how big they were.
And then i realised pika are just,,, insanely tiny,,, so i used a marmot instead. I like marmots now, they're so chunky!
I drew Pounce with proper sabers by accident, big cats have milk teeth until they're 1yr old, whoops! Let's say it's uh... an effect... from baring them... being stressed out... yup
During 2020 or so, I got so into prehistoric mammals, especially the Mammoth steppe ecosystem to the point that I felt really emotional reading about them. And the book that made me most emotional was "Frozen fauna of mammoth steppe: the story of blue babe' , by R. Dale Guthrie, the man who found and studied Blue babe himself. I only got to read like a few pages as a preview in some website. Each sentence was like, I don't know how to describe it🥹🥹😭😭very touching. I searched a lot for the full book but to no avail. I was so sad😭😭😭
Fast forward, I just got the book yesterday and I haven't opened it yet.😭😭It feels like opening a treasure trove, or something very very precious. I am sooooo excited.
I think I was a early human who lived during the late Pleistocene 😭😂 . Probably died by getting stomped by a mammoth or something.
Mammoth Steppe? It would take a rather large one yes

The Paradox of Forbs in Grasslands and the Legacy of the Mammoth Steppe
Kari Anne Bråthen,Francisco I Pugnaire,Richard D Bardgett, First published: 07 September 2021
Abstract
The grassland biome supports an enormous diversity of life and includes ecosystems used extensively by humans. Although graminoids lend grasslands their characteristic appearance, forbs are largely responsible for their taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional diversity. In terms of abundance, however, forbs often play a subordinate role relative to graminoids.
Yet this may be a relatively recent phenomenon; evidence is mounting that forbs comprised a major part of the richness of, and were abundant in, the extensive and highly productive grasslands of the Pleistocene, the so-called “mammoth steppe”. As a legacy of their past prevalence under intensive grazing by megafaunal herbivores, we hypothesize that forbs were, and still are, dependent on niche construction by large mammalian herbivores.
We suggest that the high species richness of forbs in grasslands globally merits greater research and conservation attention, and management actions tailored to sustain their abundance and diversity.

Special pliestocene rabbit?? Tragically, I couldn't find any specific evidence of Megabunnies so this is probably just a cottontail XD
I have come to increasingly dislike this part of the moon but hey ho >-<
The Ice Fang is not nearly as big as she looks on panel 3 but I'm supposed to be Going Fast so I'm not changing it c'x (her shoulder height isnt terribly higher than a Fleet Fang, she's just significantly bulkier)
Oh yeah I think this is the first time the name Fleet Fang is dropped in-comic, so by my own rules it's actually cannon now, yay!

i wish the mammoth steppe was still there...
