trans and need help picking a name?? 🏳️‍⚧️

oh boy, do i have a method for you!!

i do this as the step before i have people try out names for me just to make sure i'm personally happy with them first. as someone who's been out for almost 10 years and tried a bunch of different names, this way helped me narrow down my options with the most confidence!

write any name you like on a piece of paper like a list.

make a column every time you look at the paper, maybe every few days or so.

check off the names you like going down the columns based on your preference for the day. (i color code the ones i like for first names and middle names with different color checks.)

after you do this for however long you want, see which name you like consistently! (you can also easily add names that you like as you go, just add it to the end of the list.)

had a dream where I finally told one of my brothers (who doesn't live with us) that I'm changing my name. he was just kinda like "huh ok whatever" literally the least interested reaction but his instant acceptance just gave me the biggest happy-woosh-euphoria feeling ever.

so im gonna take that as a sign that I need to start telling folks out of the house.

It's hard especially considering that I'd like to keep some form of my birth name but considering my name is Berenice there isn't much to work with.

I can’t tell if it’s qtine driving me isnane or just me finally feeling confident enough to explore the inner workings of my identity and my being more closely, but I have been really rethinking my name as of late (and maybe for a while now). I haven’t changed my name legally yet, but I go everywhere by Ely now socially. I like that name, and I had been planning to change my name and gender marker for the longest time, but now that everything’s delayed and I have lots of time to think, but I’ve been wondering if there is a name that suits me better? Upon first look, what do I look like I would be called? I like Ely, it holds a lot of significance in the stories behind the creation of the name and attachment to my imminent identity crisis, but lately I have been liking the name Blake or Max or maybe (?) Kyle (lots of mono-syllabic names have been considered) and want to try it out more. I don’t know how I feel about a name change this far in my social transition, especially since I had such trouble getting people to get the right name the first time. I worry it will complicate things but some irked my name feels like a trigger of all my past crazy experiences coming out and fighting myself and my family. Maybe it will be cathartic to change my name? Move on from the parts of my past I don’t really feel like holding onto now? What do I look like to y’all? I’m genuinely curious (or does Ely fit me?)

An introduction

Hey im ryan and i am seventeen,and I kinda have a obsession with names. I really wanted to start this for a few reasons. (Im so sorry about the horrible grammer)

Im transgender and I know how hard picking a name is. So i want to make alot of posts about that. Especially names similar to the popular names most trans guys pick(aiden,alex,kai,elliot,etc.) there's nothing wrong with those names but i know alot of people want a more unique or uncommon names.

I love to write and naming characters can be the most frustrating thing ever. I want to do some last names aswell because that's the part i awalys struggle with.

Theres more but this post is getting too long and those were the main two anyway so I quickly go over a few more. I love animals and will ABSOLUTELY be posting pet names. I want a to have a family one day(far in the future) and have a few names picked out. I think thats just about everything.

Feel free to request that I post about a certain name or type of name(southern Names for an example) or names similar to a certain name, or just anything name related at all!
