every idea is a good idea when it comes to ocs!!

u want to make an oc that breathes fire for no reason?  great!! u can flesh that out and make it really interesting, and build the world around it.

u want an oc that literally can’t do anything? why not describe how they got that way?  write about ‘what went wrong,’ the struggles of living that way?

don’t discount ur ideas bc u think they’re lame, bc there’s a solid chance that there’s a lot that u can do with it.  it’s hard to have perceptive on our own work, too, so even if u think it’s lame, someone else might think it’s the best thing ever.

Writing Prompt: Voices

Your character wakes up one day with a massive headache, recalling the last night’s events and wondering how the heck they survived stepping in front of a semi, and then just casually being brought home. Their family is all smiles when they get ready for the day, and their friends acting like nothing had happened.

As if they hadn’t sent that suicide note 24 hours earlier.

Throughout the day they go through the normal routine, be it school, work, hanging out, whatever. Everything seems weirdly normal.

Then they start hearing things. Mostly their name. Sometimes they feel like someone is holding their hand, or running their fingers through their hair. At one point, a kiss graces their lips. They think they might be developing schizophrenia.

Your character doesn’t know it, but they have constructed their own reality while deep inside a coma.

What happens to that reality? Do they allow themselves to accept that diagnosis?

What is the best writing software for privacy and sync across devices?

I've been writing for years, but lately I've been trying to decide what is the best software to write my book on. I used to use Google Documents but since AI came out and privacy issues, i've been having fears. Same goes for Microsoft 365. It's gotten to a point where I am thinking about using using a software that's entirely offline + free and saving everything onto a USB. What are your thoughts and opinions?

To anyone interested in becoming an author because of the Harry Potter series,

You have to love more books than just HP before you get into the business. You have to love other authors, read other books, and try out other styles. Because Harry Potter is great. We authors LOVE Harry Potter. But it’s not all there is out there. There’s a whole world of literature to learn from. There’s Neil Gaiman, Dianna Wynne Jones, John Flanagan… There are SOOO many great books out there that deserve to be respected. Please check out everything, (or a lot) before you commit to being a writer.
