Do you believe in ghosts? My experiences at The St. Augustine Lighthouse
Like in all seriousness, you can absolutely “fight a ghost” on a non corporeal, concept driven, energy based sense.
This has always worked for me, at least. Spirits typically need energy in order to thrive and be able to interact in the physical realm more. It’s why most (assuming a good portion of them are true, which I do have my doubts) haunted house accounts progressively amp up in severity of what the spirit does.
The spirit starts out doing things that are small that it can manage to do (scratching noises, footsteps, moving small things here and there) but that are enough to get your attention and get you to notice. Once it has your attention, and therefore you’re devoting more energy to it being frightened by it or reaching out to it or just thinking about it, the more you feed it your energy and make it stronger and the more it can and will do to get more of that energy.
So really, if you wanna fight a ghost off, once you notice odd things going on but you don’t wanna deal with a spirit you just need to tell them to leave. Like, seriously. Stop devoting your energy to them and they’re not going to be an issue for you. It’s why I think a lot of people who are Christian will say they feel like the house or whatever felt safe after having a priest bless their home or the fact that herbs can help you cleanse a space of other energies.
If you believe telling the ghost to get out of your house will get the ghost to leave you alone, it’s going to so long as you actually resolve yourself to not pay attention to it any longer.
This also ties into my theory on why people who don’t believe in the paranormal full stop don’t have experiences themselves but that’s a whole other post I could go into and I have to start work in 15 minutes...
You can have the most amazing experience at the Dennis Severs’ house in London. He lived as if it was the 18th cent. (No electric, etc.) and called the experience a “still life drama.” You are a time traveler, in a cat & mouse game. The deal is that you interrupt a family of silk weavers- there’re unmade beds, half-eaten meals, and you hear them, but you never see them. They move to another room, as you enter. (You do see their black cat.) It’s the weirdest thing- like you’re chasing ghosts. The home is just as Severs left it, (deteriorated), and is curated according to his original plot. You even get to sit by the fire in the room of your choice.

My work is haunted
Deseret Book. Riverton, Utah. Two of the most unassuming, Mormon places to exist. Riverton bordering Bluffdale is full of Mormons and full of nice pretty horses and older but quite nice homes. Most houses have fields or large yards. Many are very expensive.
Anyway. This Deseret Book stands between a clothing department store and an empty place that used to be a Staples and now hosts Spirit Halloween every so often. I work there part time. And I swear we have ghosts.
I’ll be walking down the middle aisle and see somebody standing in one looking at a book. I’ll back up to go talk to them or get a better look, and they’ll be gone.
Or I’ll turn my head quickly and see somebody out of the corner of my eye, only to look again and not see anybody.
The iPods playing our background music will plug themselves in after we’ve turned the music off, especially in the back area where we sell temple clothes and garments and stuff. It will often come on louder than it’s ever turned up.
When we’re the last two or three people to leave the store, sometimes we’ll hear things crash or move. But as long as we ignore it, it’ll all be fine come morning.
I’ve talked to a few of my coworkers and they’ve said they experience similar things. When I said “we have ghosts” to one of the girls she was all “oh yeah”. She took it for granted.
I’m pretty sure they’re harmless though. Nobody’s been attacked or scared too badly, though I’ve felt eyes occasionally on me. Some of the people I see are shadows and others seem a lot lighter. I don’t know where they come from, though. I’m not sure if Spirit Halloween has a strong enough pull, especially for seemingly benign ghosts like these.
Who ever thought that a Deseret Book would be Haunted
I used an ouija board for the first time
and honestly?? It was super awesome. Before using it my friends and I put up a lot of protection, and two out of the four of us were super into witchy shit and knew how to banish pretty well. We didn't even use an actual planchette. It was a Celtic knot pendant that my friend had, which slid easily over the board. Honestly expected nothing to happen, and then it started moving. Our fingers kept slipping off when it moved and at one point it was just flying across the board when one of my friends was barely touching it. The first spirit we met spoke in Spanish, which only one of us knows (and she was the person who was the most scared to use it). It got a little creepy near the end, spelling out "muerte" and "ayúdame" and ended up flying around the board crazily. My two non-witch friends were rightfully so a little frightened, but through my spirit working "career" (i guess??) I've dealt with much worse so I was pretty calm during the whole thing. Eventually we said goodbye, cleansed the space, and that was the that. The second spirit we talked to was so amazing. She was super nice and kept pointing to the Sun located in the corner of the board to mention when something made her happy. I asked her what she did in her free time and she said "fly." I asked her if she could hear me singing all the time because she had lived in the apartment above mine, and she said yes and went to the sun. She then asked me to sing for her, and I said, "what song? Can I sing Michael in the Bathroom from Be More Chill?" And it immediately went to No and the Night corner of the board, which we all laughed at since our group has a running gag about that song. She wanted to hear a happy song (Michael in the Bathroom isn't), so I sang one I wrote about my significant other. At the end my friends asked "are you a fan of llama (me)?" And the planchette circled all around the board, squeezed right past No on the edge of the board, and then whipped around to Yes. By then we were all cracking up, thanked her for being there and for being so pleasant, and said goodbye. Would I use the ouija board again? Definitely. Not without precautions, of course, but it's not at all like what Hollywood tells you it is. Sure, you get creepy spirits sometimes, and not-so-nice ones, but if you don't let it phase you and understand that spirits can lie (and like to mess with us), you should be fine. :) -Llama
I had such an amazing spirit experience this morning!! So I was sitting on my couch watching YouTube videos and my heart is suddenly beating extremely hard and I can feel my neck pulsing. I pause my video and put my phone down, and put my hands on my lap palms facing up. And I feel two people there with me so I tell them I feel them and I feel safe with them. I really did. Then I felt one of them grab my hands and at that moment I felt a burst of love and happiness and I knew that it was my sisters daughter and I told her how much her mommy loved her and how she got a tattoo for her and how I was gonna get one too, and then I felt the other spirit take my hands and it was my grandma and I knew then the reason for the visit was to tell me that they found each other and that they were happy and I just started sobbing. It was such a beautiful experience and I told my dad and my sister and they were like wow that's so beautiful and amazing. And gods it brightened my day

Since its spooky month let me tell you a ghostly encounter I had while back ago when I was younger (probably around when I was 15 years old) so I’m sitting on my laptop minding my own business (for context my laptop was in the kitchen/dining area and my family was in the living room across from me) when suddenly it feels like a hand grips my throat and I’m just frozen unsure what to do, I just sit there for a few seconds as this hand slowly grips tighter and tighter until it just stops and then it feels like someone wraps an arm around me from behind
it was such an odd experience I never told my family about it because how do you even explain that, though it’s not my only experience. I’ve felt like things have crawled on my bed (yes I have dogs but it never felt like my dog jumped on the bed it felt like someone crawled onto it) and I’ve felt like I’ve been watched by unwanted creatures, just an evil vibe from those creepy watchers. Though recently I’ve felt like some non human ghost creature has been watching me from the crack of my door (I can’t fully close my door due to my dogs and my room will get hella hot) this feeling comes and goes but it never feels right
