       sitting on the table are 1) a plate of fries big enough to feed a small family, and 2) what is quite possibly the world’s most pathetic potted cactus. you get the sense that the wilted bit on top is supposed to be red, but instead it’s a patchy pink, as if all the life has been leached out. it leans a little to one side. it’s--- it’s not good to look at.

       audrey swipes a fry through her pool of ketchup, eyeing the cactus ruefully.   ❛ it looked so sad, i had to buy it. you think it’s salvageable? ❜
