Quit using Twitter

Or at least stop seeking validation and reasonable or believable opinions from it. That site is a tomb.

Twitter is no longer a reliable source for proper critique because the vast majority of activity there is run by people who are nothing but nasty for the very sake of getting attention, by bots that have scarily learned to mimic the worst of human behavior on the internet, and by people who can do nothing but to parrot what is more visible and favored on that site made of bought engagement.

At this point, I am begging any creator not to take anything from Twitter seriously, because it has become a barren wasteland for proper creative growth. It is sad because Twitter has possibly become the biggest mouthpiece for shitty, hateful, and overall toxic opinions on the internet right now. "But Reddit—" Yes, Reddit is there too, but sadly, much of this same rot that is reflected in and spread to other sites now comes from Twitter.

Notice how every time there are arguments or discourse where people ask, "How could they possibly say this?" everyone always shares screenshots that are from Twitter. So yeah.

For the blind!Zuko fic, while I'm definitely looking forward to the badger-shrimp, keep in mind that Avatarverse definitely doesn't have the level of organized service animal training and disability accommodation regulations that our world has. I see a lot of fanfics transplant various real-world concepts wholesale without considering how they fit into the setting overall, and it is always jarring. So just... make sure to keep Zuko's experiences consistent with the world he lives in.

i peaked as a writer in 2016 and my content just really isn’t worth anything anymore as talent in fandom has continued to get better and better and that’s just the tea  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Man, it just weirds me out to think about how the Warden Johnston who shows up in 1934 as the warden of Alcatraz is actually a real person, considering that Narita made him a vessel of Sham.  A real human being that lived. A Sham vessel. 

Weird.

He could have just made up a warden to replace Johnston with and forgone historical accuracy. I mean, he made up Senator Manfred Beriam (I wonder which real life senator Beriam replaces), so I think people might have forgiven him for doing the same with Alcatraz’s warden. 

But...yeah, I’m just here staring at a photograph of Johnston as he would have looked in the 30s-40s, and awkwardly thinking about how in Baccano!, he’s a Sham vessel in those photos. 

Strange feeling.

Edit: Although, I might not be entirely right here - the translation for LN #9 uses the word “warden” when referring to one of the Sham vessels, so I assumed it meant Warden Johnston, since the only person who’d been referred to as ‘warden’ in #8 was Johnston.  However, the man who is referred to as ‘warden’ in #9 is the same guy who led Firo down to Huey’s cell in #8, and that guy was only referred to as a ‘guard’ in that novel. 

So...I could be totally wrong here, based off a possible translation hiccup. I mean, ‘warden’ doesn’t necessarily have to only refer to The Warden, right? I’ve seen ‘warden’ used for lower level positions as well....

I think the possibility that it’s a translation hiccup is growing more and more likely, based off a certain page in #9. Toward the top of the page, we have this:

The small man chuckled again and opened his mouth. At the same time, the warden with the gun also spoke the exact same words.

And then further down we have:

Finally, the body of the warden who was lying outside also opened his mouth.

...Right.  It seems to me that ‘warden’ is being substituted for ‘guard’ here, or ‘overseer’ or something - not that I know the original Japanese. If someone double checks this and confirms that Narita didn’t mean Warden Johnston, I’d better go edit the wiki - since the Alcatraz page currently has Johnston listed as one of Sham’s vessels.
