Pokemon And It's Kaiju Connections
In an Interview from 2000 that can be found on shmuplations and Dr. Lava's Interview: Sugimori & Masuda on Building Gen 1; it i revealed Pokemon was at one point going to be a kaiju game. "Initially, we talked about a game where you made kaijuu fight each other. Alright, I said—I’ll try drawing some kaijuu then… but I realized I had never drawn monsters like that before. I was honestly pretty lost, but I managed to create about 20 or 30 different designs: some were cute, some were cool, some were slithering, and some, you couldn’t really tell what they were. Rhydon (Saidon) and Nidoking were two of the designs that survived from those first drawings."
This actually explains a lot, such as the act of having Pokemon fight, clearly meant to be based on Kaiju fights. Speaking of Kaiju is would only make sense for them to have a Pokemon that references the original Kaiju Godzilla, through Tyranitar. But an extra note, we could have gotten a Mecha Godzilla as the 151st. Pokemon called Omega. But, Mew would beat them of course but it is an interesting fact. There is also, the scrapped Godzillante and Gorillaimo.
We also, can't forgot the Pokemon Anime during the Indigo League having a giant Alakazam, Gengar, and Jigglypuff in The Ancient Puzzle of Pokemopolis. I wouldn't be surprised if this was an homage to the Kaiju origins of Pokemon. The same goes for Mystery at the Lighthouse's giant Dragonite. Of course we would eventually get Gigantamax Pokemon in later games. Written by Eris
