I can understand why to some who have watched the show from the beginning as adults, and seen Arya as so much younger than them, her scene with Gendry might seem uncomfortable, almost like watching a little sister. But, as a woman of a similar age to Arya, who has rarely in tv seen a woman making such a clear, consensual choice to have sex, especially regarding her virginity, it is so relatable and necessary. Arya has sex for herself, not for the boy, Gendry. It’s so amazing to see a young woman know when she is ready and able to choose. they could have easily made this a scene where they’re flirting and suddenly Gendry goes in for the kiss and things escalate (and consent is ambiguous but accepted, something that can normalise not giving verbal consent), but no, Arya specifically says herself “I want to know what it feels like” and she initiates and Gendry is careful to make sure she wants this. So, if you’re uncomfortable about it because you see Arya still as that young girl from season 1, I understand. But please acknowledge the beauty and importance of a scene like this, especially for young women and men who watch.
