okay, let’s get this straight. I’m not saying I’m against Eccomiah or I ship it, this is just to put my thoughts out there.
EVERYTHING BELOW THE CUT:
The chemistry between Jeremiah and Ecco was something, limited, but interesting.
(I couldn’t find a good gif, but that’s not the point.)
So what I see Eccomiah is, well, basically an interation of their comic book counterparts.
But here’s what I think really went down.
Prior to No Man’s Land, and well, Jerome’s death, Ecco and Jeremiah were simply sane. Ecco was introduced as Jeremiah’s proxy; she’d listen to what he told her to do, to keep Jeremiah anonymous because of his brother.
So, it’s revealed that what Jerome did to Jeremiah didn’t actually happen, so let’s say he told her the exact same things to manipulate Ecco. She did help him build the bunker, and what was it for? To protect him against Jerome.
So when we’re first introduced to the pair in 4x17, Jeremiah said that Ecco “devoted her life” to him. So it is a possibility that he did manipulate her. Ecco is a stoic proxy, and is shown to know decent combat skills, either to protect herself or Jeremiah.
Post Jerome’s death, and Jeremiah goes crazy due to the spray. While Ecco’s still sane, as provided by her actress Francesca Root-Dodson, she went insane in between the events of seasons 4 and 5, she might know about Jeremiah’s transformation.
He’s obsessive, and more derailed than ever, as well as being calculated. He looks at Ecco’s loyalty another way, and what his brain thinks, he starts to believe that even within loyalty, she may betray him because she isn’t as he is. That she might not go head to toe with his antics, even after her run in with the cult and Jim.
Whether scared of Jeremiah, or he forced it himself, Ecco shoots herself in the head. She slowly starts to lose her mind as well, and enter the worshippers or the church. Ecco herself starts to see Jeremiah as some deity or god, and worships him along with the others.
Jeremiah, noticing this, thinks ahead, and takes advantage of this never ending loyalty. Their partner relationship prior turns into a lover situation, as a onesided thing so Jeremiah can string Ecco further along into devotion.
Ecco, being hopelessly infatuated with Jeremiah, doesn’t see this as is, and falls further for him. She continues on, carrying out his plans to rebuild Gotham, but her mind is slowly deteriorating as this goes on.
Enter 5x04, where Jeremiah asks about the followers, and she replies “I thought you would want quality over quantity.” Jeremiah, obviously not happy with this answer, grabs Ecco by the neck, giving her a look of shock, while also being scared of dissapointing him.
Jeremiah’s brain soon goes to that loyalty, one that is farther along than others for Ecco, and knowing she’s the only one who would be willing to carry out his plans, he soon wins her over by inviting her to dance.
This completly overrides the fact that he was mad at her in her head, and she takes the invitation. They dance, and Jeremiah somewhat subtly checks her to make sure he isn’t betraying him, a repeated thought that lead to him making her, or forcing her to shoot herself.
Enter 5x05, and Jeremiah gets stabbed by Selina, thus later making an appearance in the episode alongside Ecco.
In this scene, Ecco is seen somewhat frantically rushing to where Jeremiah is laid, showing no signs of life. She seems to be worried about him, something that former her, the stoic, which she carries on past towards insanity, wouldn’t show.
She is impatient to wake him up, and somewhat hurts him in the process after he wakes up. He proceeds to tell her that “the bullet is making you sentimental,” and to “give her a shake.” She does this instantly after, and the conversation continues as normal.
Jeremiah asks if Ecco has news since he’s been “dead,” and between this conversation, he takes her by the neck again. When she tells him that there was some, “all systems go,” he tells her to lead the way, in a somewhat rude rushing manner. She is taken by suprise, not knowing he’d want to leave right away, and they do.
In 5x07, Jeremiah has plans to make Bruce tick with the recreation of his parents murder. In this episode, a version of “The Mark of Zorro” is filmed by Jeremiah, with Ecco in the background. While this is a minor detail, this goes to show that she is willing to do anything and everything for him.
Within the events of the episode, their plans to recreate the murder with Jim and Lee as Thomas and Martha are foiled by Bruce and Selina. Jeremiah orders Ecco to flips the switches which are going to release the rockets with the toxic chemicals into the air, and she does so without hesistation.
Prior to these events, though, they manage to get Jim and Lee lured into their trap, with the help of Jervis Tetch. After Jim and Lee find out who’s behind this, and the reason why they’re at Ace Chemicals, Ecco enters, and without hesistation, aims to hurt Jim.
Jervis and Ecco are able to capture Jim and Lee, and hypnotize them, thus leading to the latter of events in the episode.
In the series finale, we see Ecco reformed, but as a nurse at Arkham, taking care of Jeremiah. After Jeremiah gets stabbed in the leg by Nygma, she orders the other inmates out of the way, and removes the wood from his leg.
Later in the episode, when it is discovered Jeremiah was behind the whole schtick in the first place, she visits him in his cell. She is quick to kill the other inmates, showing that even after ten years, her insanity and devotion for Jeremiah never changed.
She tells him that their cover has been “Blownsky,” and beforehand, once again, he takes her by suprise by grabbing her by the neck. Even though it is never shown on screen, they escape or leave Arkham which leads to their intervention at the Sirens Club.
Barbara is at the club, going to retrieve some things with her daughter, Barbara Lee, with her, when she starts hearing music playing. She tells Barbara Lee to stay where she’s at, and goes to see what’s going on.
Ecco is at the bar, back turned, and Barbara has her gun pointed at Ecco, unaware of what’s going to happen next. Enter Jeremiah, and Barbara turns around to see Jeremiah, who pushes her back, leading Ecco to have her at knife point.
Jeremiah goes on to talk, and out from the back, come Barbara Lee, doing what she can to have Ecco and Jeremiah to let go of her mom, preceding her Batgirl origins. This leads to a mild distraction, and in turn, leads to Barbara getting the upperhand and stabbing Ecco.
Ecco takes notice of this, as well as Jeremiah, with Ecco delivering the iconic, yet creepy line, “I think she nicked, me, daddy.” The wound, bleeding out, and slowly taking life away from her, Ecco turns to Jeremiah to see what he could do, because since day one, she’s had this idea that Jeremiah is a saviour, and will always be.
Jeremiah tells her “there will never be another one like you,” and she takes away the fact that she’s dying, and her brain takes in the compliment as something big and worthy, until Jeremiah shoots her. A mixed look of love, confusion, and bewilderment is drawn across her face as she dies and falls to the side, ending the reign of Ecco and Jeremiah.

My overall take on the couple?
Jeremiah was manipulative and somewhat abusive against Ecco, just like the comic book dynamic between the Joker & Harley Quinn. Ecco was deeply infatuated with Jeremiah, giving her the trouble of telling the difference of whether or not he cared for her. The couple was great in it’s way of potraying the ever iconic couple of The Joker and Harley Quinn, and the scene where it ended was heartbreaking. The relationship seemed really one-sided and toxic, but that never ending loyalty from Ecco was a tied connection. Jeremiah used that to his advantage, and Ecco never noticed it. At least at not until the end. This scene really broke my heart, and I give kudos to both Cameron Monaghan and Francesca Root-Dodson who killed their performances.
say what you want about gotham but david mazouz delivered the most consistent live action portrayal of bruce wayne and he doesn't get enough credit for his performance...and that is a shame
