A/N: This was such a cute and fun prompt to work on! It also inadvertently opened up the door for a Hinata/Kageyama/Noya-specific storyline that I'm super excited to explore! Enjoy! ^^

“You’ve got the basic form down, but you’re not following through,” Noya said, shaking his head as he stood at Hinata’s side, holding out his arms to create a platform. “Your arms are jelly. They’re going to fold as soon as the ball touches them and then it’ll be a point for the other guys. When you make a platform, it needs to be firm enough to reverse the ball’s momentum and then redirect it where you want it to go. Usually to Kageyama or Suga.”
Hinata frowned in concentration, trying to make his platform firmer as Noya suggested. On the other side of the net, Kageyama bounced a volleyball lazily, waiting for his cue to serve again.
They’d been working all morning on Hinata’s receives, and while Noya was an excellent coach, the poor redhead still just couldn’t seem to get the hang of it. He was technically platforming better, but the ball would still often bounce out on his side of the court or sometimes smack him in the chest or face instead. Still, for all of his struggle, Hinata refused to give up. He kept bouncing back, kept asking to do it again, kept trying his best to follow Noya’s instructions. It wasn’t going smoothly by any stretch of the imagination, but he was putting in the effort, and Noya had to appreciate that much at least.
“All right, Kageyama,” the libero called to the black-haired setter. “Let’s have another one.” He backed up a few paces to allow Hinata room to do his thing, and once again Kageyama set up to serve and aimed the ball directly for him. Noya was pleased to see that his underclassman’s platform was definitely firmer and better prepared – but the ball wooshed right past him, ruffling his hair with the wind it left behind as Kageyama “scored” again.
“Aw, but I was ready that time!” Hinata whined.
“You do actually have to move to where the ball’s going in order to receive it, Hinata,” Noya muttered, sighing a little. This was getting exhausting, but he was still determined to do his best to help, since there was no question he was the best receiver on their team. He wasn’t the libero for nothing, after all.
He moved back to Hinata’s side as Kageyama grabbed another ball from the bin and bounced it on the floor, pacing, obviously bored but still sticking around to help. It wasn’t like Noya was any good at serving; the kid never got to due to his position on the team, so he rarely practiced it.
“Send us another one, Kags,” Noya called, positioning himself behind Hinata. To the redhead he said, “I’ll move you if you don’t on your own, so try to pay attention this time.”
“Right.” Hinata nodded determinedly, eyes glued to Kageyama and the next volleyball he tossed into the air. There was a loud thwack as the setter’s hand made contact, sending the ball over the net to where his teammates stood. Hinata started to move, but Noya saw the arc of the ball and grabbed his underclassman’s waist to correct his judgement, knowing it would wind up falling in the other direction from where the redhead was heading.
Rather than follow his lead, however, Hinata let out a yelp and broke his platform entirely, whirling around to shove the libero away with a giggle.
The ball bounced outside the court. Kageyama cursed, but neither of his teammates seemed to have noticed that he’d screwed up the serve.
“Dude,” Noya said, “are you okay? What was that?”
“S-Sorry!” Hinata stammered, bowing in apology, flushing pink with embarrassment. “I wasn’t expecting you to grab me there and it tickled so I freaked out. It won’t happen again!”
Noya grinned, something instinctual rising up in him. His mind flashed back to that time he got stuck in the net and Hinata had been the first to realize he was ticklish and pounce on him, inviting the rest of the team to do the same. It had all ended well, sure, but he’d still wished he could get his teammate back for that somehow.
And here fate was, providing an open door for him to lunge through.
“It tickled, huh?” Noya reached for him again, purposely grabbing his ribs this time. “Well, if you’d learn to read the ball better, I wouldn’t have had to move you, and then it wouldn’t have been a problem.”
“Nohohohoya! No!” Hinata giggled, grabbing the libero’s wrists and pushing to no avail. His legs wobbled and gave out beneath him, and Noya crawled on top of him and kept tickling his ribs, making him burst into frantic laughter, arms flailing helplessly. “NOHOHOHOHOHO!! NOYA PLEHEHEHEHEHEASE I’M SOHOHOHOHOHORRY!!”
“We’ve been working on your platforms all morning, Hinata,” Noya teased, though he was honestly taking the opportunity to vent a little without it seeming like he was actually scolding. “You think you would have been able to improve at least a little bit by now. Right, Kageyama?” He turned to the setter, who was staring at them with disbelief written all over his face.
“Uh…” Kageyama said unhelpfully, blinking, shaking his head. How had this turned into yet another tickle fight? Well…fight wasn’t exactly accurate here, but still. He was stunned. There must have been something about Hinata that just radiated tickling energy, because it was really crazy to him how often he saw the redhead either tickle or get tickled by someone else on this team. Not that he was complaining – that energy had helped him overcome his fear of being ganged up on again – but still.
“PLEHEHEHEHEHEASE!! KAGEYAHAHAHAHAMA, HELP MEHEHEHEHEHEHE!!” Hinata screamed, desperately clawing at Noya’s arms when he found his bottom ribs and pressed in deep, kneading along the bone and the space beneath it. “AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! I’M SOHOHOHOHOHOHORRY!! I’M TRYING MY BEHEHEHEHEHEHEST!!”
Kageyama rolled his eyes, smirked, and started toward the two of them. Oh, I’ll help you all right, you little shrimp, he thought.
Noya saw the mischievous look on Kageyama’s face and grinned at him, his excitement about finally getting revenge building when he realized the setter was going to take his side and turn his evil tickler ways on the bundle of energy on the floor beneath him. Moments later Hinata’s clawing hands had been pulled away and above his head, and he was screaming with renewed hysterics when Kageyama began digging into his now exposed armpits through his t-shirt.
“NOHOHOHOHOHOHO!! KAGEYAMA YOU TRAHAHAHAHAHAHAITOR!! PLEASE, YOU GUHUHUHUHUHUHUYS!! STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!!” Hinata begged through his laughter, squirming and bucking as much as he could under the double tickle attack. Both of his worst spots being tickled at once was surprisingly draining even for him; he wasn’t sure how long he’d be able to handle it, but it wasn’t like he wasn’t having fun, either.
“I’ve been dying to get revenge on you for tickling me when I was stuck in that net,” Noya said, grinning wickedly at his friend. “You and Kageyama both.”
“Me?” Kageyama sounded startled.
“Yeah, you! You both came after me when I was stuck, so I want revenge on you, too, eventually.” Noya winked. “But don’t worry, that’ll be some other time.”
Kageyama’s cheeks turned pink and he ducked his head, glaring at Hinata. “You keep getting me into trouble, you idiot! Quit dragging me down with you!”
“YOU TIHIHIHIHIHICKLED HIM FIHIHIHIHIHIRST!!” Hinata protested, laughter beginning to turn silent when Kageyama switched to kneading as well. “STAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!!”
“Shut up!” the setter shot back. “And learn how to receive, already!”
“I’M TRYIHIHIHIHIHIHIHING!!”
Noya grinned, switching from kneading to raking up and down his ribs when he realized the redhead was beginning to wheeze. “Consider this punishment for not being able to platform correctly all morning and revenge for tickling me before. It’s a two-for-one deal, Hinata; I’ll consider us even after this.”
Hinata tossed his head back and lost himself to his own laughter for several long moments, already thinking of all the ways he could tickle Noya back later – once he got out of this predicament, of course.
“Well, how about it?” Noya asked after about a minute, grinning, having as much fun with this as his friends seemed to be. “Ready to give up yet?”
“YEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHES!!” Hinata cried, his laughter completely wild and out of control. Mirthful tears pricked the corners of his eyes. “I GIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIVE UP!! PLEASE, I GIVE UHUHUHUHUHUHUHUP!! NOYA!! KAGEYAMA!! MEHEHEHEHEHEHERCY!!”
Finally the libero stopped tickling and climbed off of the redhead, and Kageyama followed his lead, releasing his arms so he could bring them down, roll onto his side, and gasp for air as he giggled out the leftover sensations into the floor.
Noya got up, stretched, and let out a relieved sigh when his spine popped. “All right, I think I’m done for the morning. You guys can keep practicing if you want, but I need a break.”
“I was done forever ago,” Kageyama muttered, going to retrieve the volleyballs scattered around this half of the court. “I’ll clean up and then I’m heading out, too.”
Noya pointed at him with a smirk. “Watch your back, Kags. I’m coming for you next!”
Kageyama froze, eyes wide.
From his spot on the ground, Hinata sat up and giggled, “Y-Yeah, well, I’m getting the both of you for this later! Just you wait!”
Now doubly threatened, Kageyama stammered, “W-Well…bring it on! I can take it! And…and I’ll get you back, too!”
All three of them appraised each other, their declaration of war making them grin excitedly at the anticipation of what would come later. Then they called it a morning and went their separate ways…for now.
heyyyyy hows it going? anyways,,,,,, i was wondering if you could do a part 2 of being kageyamas sister and her playing volleyball? shes a genius just like him and thwy bond over it ya know she maybe meets the karasuno club idk👀👀thanks
I am good!! this was very fun to write!! I’m such a hoe for brother! Kageyama ajkdjkdk I felt kinda lazy and didn’t do the meeting the team part but I might post it sometime later as a part 3!
Being Kageyama’s sister
“KAGEYAMA! ARE YOU MARRIED? IS THIS IDENTITY THEFT?” Hinata glided on the freshly waxed floors of the gym as practice was about to start. He waved a newspaper high above his head like a flag and nearly fell on his face when he came to a stop in front of Tobio. The boy crooked his head and squinted at the paper. “Huh?”
Hinata took in an anxious deep breath, pointing frantically at a small picture on the edge of the front page; a girl. Tobio read the headline ‘Shiratorizawa’s girls’ volleyball reaches new heights with number 14, Kageyama (Y/N)’
Hinata bit his lip expectantly, Kageyama sighed deeply, dusting off his shorts and stretching his arm over his chest, “No, moron. That’s my sister. She’s a genius.”
“HUH? LIKE YOU? SO SHE’S A QUEEN?”
“What are you saying?”
“You're the King of the Court so she’s a Queen right?...or would that make her a princess? I never paid attention in history so uh...I’m not really sure how nomarchy works.”
Tsukishima just happened to be passing by and his attention was caught by Hinata’s unrelenting stupidity, “It’s monarchy, doofus.”
“WHATEVER! KAGEYAMA HAS A SISTER.” Hinata completely brushed off the sneer thrown his way. Tsukishima raised a brow, “A sister? I hope she’s nothing like you.”
“SHE’S A VOLLEYBALL CELEBRITY!”
“Hinata, stop assuming things!” Kageyama pursed his lips, slightly angry at being compared to you.
“IDEA! BRING HER HERE! I want to meet her!” Maybe it was the excitement exuding from Hinata’s body, maybe it was just him trying to appease the redhead so that he could stop yelling or maybe Kageyama wanted you to meet his very first best friends that weren’t you, but he agreed.
On the way home, Tobio couldn’t stop thinking of how tomorrow would go when you met the team. Would you like them? Would they like you? They had to like you. You were great! Would they think you were better than him? This particular thought bothered him especially. It had been (y/n) vs Tobio for as long as he could remember and it was torturous because it was detrimental to the both of you. But at the same time, he loved you so much, you understood him on a level that no one else could. You knew how difficult it was to be expected to be the best at volleyball, the consequences that came from this pressure was destructive, to say the least. You had seen him throw away all his friendships for volleyball, you had seen him lash out on his teammates because he wanted full control because if the game didn’t end in a victory, if it didn’t go perfectly... then it was his fault.
The same applied to him, he watched you tire yourself out until you couldn’t move. He’d watched you break bones for a ball and put your body on the line for the sake of improvement. You both needed to the best, for each other and for other people and only the two of you could understand the strife that came from this pressure.
So when he asked you to come to practice the next day, his face lit up at your “ahh! That sounds fun!”
Season 4 of haikyuu!! Is out ahhhh I’m so excited I also watched the new OVAs regarding Nekoma and Fukurodani and ahhh they were amazing too. I’m really hyped for this season I can’t wait to see how it plays out. It’s really been nearly 4 years huh
Draw a happy bokuto walking or running to school. He's the captain so doesn't he have to open the gym? I imagine he is a morning person so I bet he'd be singing or something trying to pep himself up for the day. Also just one more drawing then sleep!!! Or just go to sleep now and save bokuto for later.
I took your kind advice! Now Bokuto time!
Am I the only one to think he’d totally be the kind of person who tries to do spikes with the keys?
