Papa Washington Trying To Corral His Problem Kids
Sometimes re-writing a fic from the ground up can be so very therapeutic. That’s what I did tonight. I trashed a fic, keeping only three lines of dialog and the prompt that inspired it and completely re-wrote it. I’m actually really proud of this one.
FebuWhump No. 10: “I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”
Washington impulsively claims Alexander as his son in order to save him from being dragged into a horrible fate.
Below is just a little piece. You can read the whole fic on AO3 right here!

“About the bond, my boy, I think no less of you for-”
“That’s not it,” Alexander fixes him a sharp look, fury fully masking the pain in his eyes now.
“Then what-”
“You had no right!”
“What?”
“You’ve taken away any chance for me to make my own mark, be respected on my own merit. They’ll only see me as yours! You had no right to claim me as your son!”
Washington stares at him, stunned momentarily into silence. Alexander’s knees give again, but this time he manages to settle himself onto the bench next to the table. His shoulders slump, he’s still breathing quickly, harshly. He looks up again, dark eyes fixing on his.
Fury, pain, grief.
“You’ve no right to make yourself my father-”
“Alexander-”
“While my real one still lives and breathes!”
Wah8ington: So, if your friend jumps off a cliff, you will too?
Hamilton: Bold of you to assume I'm not the one who jumped off the cliff
James Madison: Sir, your son, Alexander, is antagonizing Jefferson again. They are ready to start throwing blows!
George Washington: Wait. I don't have a son named A--

W: I'll go break it up.
Washington: Son come here.
Alex: I'm not your son.
Washington: Remember back at the war when you wanted me to trust you with a command?
Alex: yeah?
Washington: This is the reason I said no to you having a command.
