Poem-"Hate Myself"

I try to love myself, yet the word "if" stands in my way.

Maybe it's the way it has so much meaning in just those two letters—

Two letters that keep me captive, trying to make myself "better."

If I got more friends, if I played a sport, if I had my dream body, if I had a better face.

If, if, if, if, if.

If what? I still don't know the end of this never-ending chase.

It's a race I can never win.

I'm competing against a me that will never exist.

Second place is only what someone else can tell,

Creating an unattainable pace to create an unattainable self.

Just to blame myself.

So no matter how many "if's" I have, deep down I'll always—
