YESSSSSS
We’re at the best written, most poetic part of the entire series!!!
This is the story of a skeleton. This is the story of a band of goblins. This is the story of a girl who was a monster.
For reasons I don't comprehend, out of the three MXTX novels, TGCF is the one that left me with the most questions (but that may be bc I read it from a fan translation re-translated with google)
So my question today is: do we ever get the answer to how Cuo Cuo (a.k.a. Demon baby) came to be??
Because...????
As far as I understood it, Feng Xin is terrified of women, but he did admit in-story that the baby was his, so.... how? Or is it one of those typical MXTX unanswered questions that you can fill with fanon?
The first wave of the Solstice Goblins broke through Reiss’ army. They charged ahead, aiming at the Goblin Lord. A screaming horde. They’d never win. They couldn’t win. But no one had told them that. Headscratcher, Badarrow, Rabbiteater, Numbtongue, and Shorthilt ran ahead of the rest. They aimed at the Goblin Lord, five brothers. And they were laughing. Laughing with the others, fit to burst. And then fighting. Falling.
Laughing.

The dark side of being Hawke’s best friend...
Time for a late-night drunken Dragon Age ramble!
I played and then imported the most dementedly evil DA2 playthrough into DAI - killing Merrill, Merrill’s entire clan, Bethany, Anders, Keran, and any other NPC the game allowed me to turn the murder knife on; sending Fenris back into slavery; handing Isabela to the Arishok; siding with Petrice and Varnell and killing the Qunari captives; turning Feynriel tranquil; slaughtering every mage in the Circle - then talked to Varric about it.
And Varric just... didn’t seem to care very much? At Haven, when asked about Hawke’s friends, he didn’t even mention anyone besides Sebastian (romanced but returned to Starkhaven) and Aveline (single), and when asked about the Arishok, he vaguely referred to the Arishok leaving with the thief (not even calling Isabela by her name - wow) and immediately moved on. Weren’t all these people supposed to be his friends? Here Hawke was a homicidal maniac who betrayed everyone closest to her at the first opportunity, including cheering on the senseless murder of her own sister, and Varric is still defending her for some reason, including risking his life to protect her from Cassandra (at least during the interrogation featured in DA2)? But why? This is literally the most untrustworthy person ever.
At least some of the other companions had the excuse of being to some extent dependent on Hawke - Merrill as an exile; Fenris as a fugitive slave still living in hiding (until after Alone in Act 3); Anders as a rebel only avoiding arrest (by late in Act 2, judging by a lot of the dialogue) due to Hawke’s protection - and the siblings are obviously tied by family loyalties, but Varric has plenty of outside connections and could easily just leave at any time? What makes Hawke worth siding with over the rest of the Kirkwall crew?
After trying a pro-Templar run, I thought it was pretty disturbing that Varric was reluctant to help save the mages during The Last Straw but totally relieved and happy to help the Templars kill them all (he even called it “saving the city” and protecting “innocents” or something along those lines - what the actual fuck). Now, reflecting on his reactions in DAI, I’m not sure if I seriously misread Varric during my earlier playthroughs or if he was just very poorly written in certain respects...
MacGyver Headscratcher
Regarding shut-downs and operations changes.
1 (important) tech person turns traitor? Change the name.
The acting head turns traitor? Meh, it happens.
A group of terrorist infiltrate and attempt to steal dangerous weapons, leave a lot of damage? No problem.
1 nut escapes from inside? Shut the whole thing down.
This makes no sense to me...
So what no more masks? No more social distancing? Did the pandemic end and no one bothered to tell me? I mean 24K new cases in US just today but what do I know?
Highly Contagious
After sitting through the first play that the Redfangs watched, Erin confronts Headscratcher with what she noticed from him.
Headscratcher: "WHAT!? Not crying! I don't cry! Just... caught sm'thin in my eye."
Erin: "What did you catch?"
Headscratcher: "Tears!"
