'Something... More Private'
Hansry Week 2025
Day 1 - Touches, Looks
I've never done a full, Classical figure portrait before (or participated in a 'Fandom Week' or even just painted a Hansry piece) so thought I'd really put my new MaxPacks Oils brushes to use in Procreate (they are SO GOOD - thank you for the brushes rec and the general art inspo, @thistlearts ) and ended up with this, in which Hans and Henry have finally sought out Hans' desired "something more private". I've really tried to make it look a bit Romantic/a bit Classical/all longing looks and tender touches. I really enjoyed painting it and feel like I've learned a lot in recent months; both from actively working on this, and also learning from the swathes of AMAZING, INSPIRATIONAL, PROFESSIONAL GRADE MASTER ARTISTS across the fandom. Like, it is all so impressive. <3
Full disclosure, I'd originally started this in very early June (incredibly optimistically, given my track record) to finish and post within Pride Month and well, life and work got in the way and it just so happened that the piece fit in QUITE nicely with Day 1 of Hansry Week '25, so here it is!
PS: Real Ones will spot the two wee fandom easter eggs tucked away in here

Post game devil’s den
I like how Henry is canonically used to being pretty reluctant to say who he really is - a noble, and an important one with that. After all, he’s technically not a full one in the rules. And many times, he gets out of situations with his silver tongue, threats or trickery like a goblin. Using the "I’m a noble" card isn’t something he’s used to do, either, and most of the time it’s better for him to just be Henry, especially when he’s sneaking around where he shouldn’t.
That being said. I absolutely LOVE when Henry pulls that card.
Because the best part about it is that he doesn’t have to. He always has other options to get out of trouble. Unlike Hans for instance who has 0 speech and can only be taken seriously with rich clothes and a title - even if that doesn’t work much for him either sometimes. No no, Henry tells his real identity when he’s tired of your shit. It’s not often, but sometimes he just wants people to respect him for what he’s doing. He spends most of his time deep in shit helping others, more times literally than is decent. He deserves the right to puff up his feathers, too. Some attitude he definitely picked up from Capon.
Thank you, Hans, I wish I could fucking see you
I am.. so fascinated, by who Henry will say that Sir Radzig is his father too.
Like, aside from the standard, high charisma ‘do you know who my daddy is!!!’ While dressed in an outfit that breaks like, eighteen sumptuary laws routine, (Side note; imagine Radzig overhearing Henry pulling one of these ‘I’m a nobleman let me do whatever I want’ cons and then having him immediately turn around and realise he was listening. Tbh I think Radzig would probably be quite proud of what a good liar his son is. Not an honest man, Radzig, imo. But just in the way you kind of have to be to be a reprobate king’s favourite and to seem that cheerful all the time when his whole life falls apart.)
But, anyway - the game gives you chances to talk about either Martin or Radzig when Henry’s asked about his father, like in the first proper conversation with Samuel and John.
And it also gives you the chance to explain the situation, Henry having two fathers, sired by one, raised by another, which Henry can do plenty - usually to random villagers that he’ll never see again.
But he never really has a proper conversation about it with like, Zizka, or Hynek, who certainly know about it. He just, doesn’t ever really bring it up! It’s clearly not a secret anymore, their enemies are aware of it, and Radzig will happily and openly refer to Henry as his son at Raborsch, and so will Henry, in certain situations.
Except here, he goes to lengths to correct himself when it slips out!
Why does he care if this guy knows? It’s a random stranger, part of the mercenaries Brabant dug up, he knows one of Henry’s old friends, who led the ‘band of bastards’, so, you’d feel like he wouldn’t really care? Is it because they’re at the Devil’s Den? Is he worried about anyone overhearing? Is he worried about who this specific guy will spread this information on to?
So just how much of a secret is it? Henry spends a lot of time basically in enemy territory in KCD2 where flagging up his connection to Radzig to the big players is probably ill-advised, but I just wish it came up more! I wish Henry could talk about how he feels about his new dad more!
Day 6: 🍸 Festival 🍸
It was Henry’s first time walking a red carpet. Just a few steps ahead of him was Hans, smiling and waving to the crowd like he’d been doing it his whole life. Henry, on the other hand, looked tense and completely out of place.
“They can’t take their eyes off you,” Hans leaned in to whisper in Henry’s ear, raising his voice just enough to be heard over the sound of the camera flashes.
“Just what I needed to hear—super comforting, thanks,” Henry muttered with a touch of sarcasm, lowering his gaze with a shy smile.
All those eyes on him made Henry uncomfortable—he knew exactly what a lot of people were probably thinking: “What’s Radzig’s bastard doing here?” Hans Capon of Pirkstein was a well-known (and very handsome) face among the nobility ), but . Henry, was a complete nobody with a questionable background.
“Of course they’re staring, Henry—you look absolutely stunning in that tuxedo. Plus, you’re showing up with ‘the most eligible bachelor in the nobility.’” Hans gave him a playful wink and let his pinky finger brush gently against Henry’s hand. “Relax. I’m right here with you.”
Definitely my favorite piece from this drawing challenge 🩷 I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this AU because there’s just something really satisfying about imagining Hans and Henry in a world where—even if it’s not easy—their romantic relationship can be accepted by society.
So I’ll take this chance to wish everyone a happy Pride Month 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ !! Let’s celebrate the fact that, even though there’s still a lot of work to do, some of us are lucky enough to be ourselves and love who we love freely ❤️🔥
