Houji my beloved!

Houji, for all his seriousness and work ethic, is a menace when it comes to messing with his coworkers. If there’s an office prank he’s probably done it, but no one thinks it was him. He acts just as surprised as everyone else when everything in the office is moved a foot to the left or when there’s tiny plastic army dudes hidden in every crevice and pocket. Marude is the only one who knows it’s him but he can’t prove it and no one believes him

He speaks decent Mandarin. In his time in China he fell hard for a woman there and learned the language. Sure he didn’t really need to speak it for work, they had translators, but she had him smitten he had a phase where he was certain she was the one and would be willing to move permanently to China where he could easily get a good job in their branch of the CCG, but once the mission was over and he got to spend more time with her, it turned out that they didn’t work out. In hindsight he’s embarrassed by the infatuation and will always lie about why he learned mandarin

He is very calm and collective at work, but the moment he gets home we will rant about EVERYTHING to his elderly cat. That animal knows more workplace drama than any living thing

He grieved for Seidou much more than he let on, and fought Aogiri with a newly rekindled passion for killing his eager to please partner. But when Seidou resurfaced as a ghoul, it took him a long time to come to terms with it. He shut down emotionally for awhile, for all he says that emotions cloud judgement, he’s a very emotional person and tends to cut everything off when it gets overwhelming. Though as humans and ghouls worked towards peace post-decriminalization, he reached out to him again. They’ve become good friends again since then, and Seidou is probably the only living person who’s seen him get close to tears

He’s very proud of his hair, and takes care of it well. One time while he was out drinking with some coworkers and had one too many, one cracked a joke about him going bald, at which he politely excused himself to the bathroom and cried for five minutes. Once he was self aware he decided he needs to get a taxi home because this is ridiculous. Luckily no one heard him and he cringes as the memory

He will admit to occasionally letting Tatara escape. For all his hatred of ghouls and history with him, he feels something like respect for this one. He never told anyone, but Tatara had a chance to kill him back in China and clearly chose not to, so when they fight he never quite gives it his all. Of course he thinks ghouls should be exterminated, but this one makes him uncomfortable, that memory was just too human

He is very bad at keeping plants alive, but he loves having them. He’s tried everything. The Flowers wilt, the herbs get gross, he even managed to kill a cactus. Seidou used to joke that if he killed ghouls as easily as he kills houseplants they’d all be out of a job

He has neck pain that can almost completely be blamed on his cat who exists on sleeping on his pillow and will push his head off of it to take his place. He just lets it happen and goes to the chiropractor a lot
