Harry Potter Character Analysis pt 2
Harry is stupidly brave. He will do anything to save other people. Every action he takes in the face of danger shows this.
He is an amazing friend, family member, and student. He would kill and die for those he loves and feels loyal too.
He is also generally an extremely nice person. He is supportive and loyal sometimes to a fault. This is shown in his support of Nevill and luna as he learns about them.
he has a knack for teaching which I find interesting. he had little positive adult influence. McGonagall and Hagrid were the only ones always involved from the point he met them. I think he takes a page from both of them. Hagrid teaches him to be kind and inventive in his lessons, and McGonagall taught him the form and understanding of magic as a discipline.
he is loving but has trouble quite understanding how to show it.
Shows deep compassion for those he feels are being wronged. Like dobby.
Is willing to help people, in general, like with the Weasleys offering to help them when he stays with them. and monetarily help Fred, gorge and Ron.
Harry obviously deals with some warped senses of identity-based on his child abuse, and continued manipulation.
Has a giant martyr complex always feels the need to put himself below someone else to save them. Everyone else is more important than him. Obviously exemplified by him dying for his friends in TDH. But he is also willing to die in SS and COS. He doesn’t see himself as worthy all the time growing from his childhood. then he is shown one way he is good is that he can save people, he is very brave as well. So he throws his own wellbeing to the wind to save people.
He has an unending need to please those he sees as good. Dumbledore, his friends, Ginny, Sirius, Remus and even moody/crouch. He wants very much to the one that they deem able to love. Even when he is oblivious he still wants to be loved.
He views himself greatly in
He has an extreme sense of morality. In a very black and white way. He sees people as wholly bad or wholly good. He feels the need to act in a way of justice based on these ideas of good and bad.
He is susceptible to feeling like he must be evil whenever he finds things in him that he sees related to death eaters/Voldemort. (This relates to point 1). In the movie, this is exemplified when Sirius tries to explain to him “"We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.“ (OOTF)
He deals with a great amount of guilt with the deaths of those he cares about, and anyone who was affected by the second war.
He has anger outbursts when those he cares about are either insulted or in danger. We see this in his need to defend his parents from the attacks of Aunt Marge, Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia or Snape.
I think why a trigger for his anger is his parents because they were taken from him both physically and emotionally at their death. He finally found a connection of them and the first descriptions he heard in his real world he becomes fiercely protective of this ideal version of his parents.
Nightmares start in book 3 and continue to worsen as trauma piles up and this is mixed with the mental invasions perpetrated by Voldermort (starting in book 4)
He deals with both outwardly and inwardly imposed isolation. Dumbledore, his classmates and the ministry impose isolation on Harry. when he feels different then the others or he fears he is dangerous he tends to isolate himself.
He has a tendency to hyperfocus on things, like finding Draco, tom riddles diary, half-blood prince book, Sirius black (both before and after he finds who he is), and Dumbledors army.
He has a lot of trouble focusing in school even when he likes the subject (DADA). And is incapable of focusing when he doesn’t like the subject. He’s capable of being very good at things like DADA but he has to work hard to focus. When he is given freedom to learn things, or is taught by someone who understands how he works he exceeds. With Lupin and Hermione, he can learn extremely advanced magic. and he learns new skills and is able to teach with DA which takes massive skill and a deep understanding of the subject.
Harry is oblivious in lots of situations as his brain is always skipping around or hyper stuck on one thing.
His self-control can be lacking when he is in high-stress situations. For example with Umbridge in class, with Dumbledore in his office, with Malfoy all the time.
He is irritable easily when he is bored or confused.
This is more of a personal headcanon verse truly supported by the text/movie. I believe that after dying twice and being physically tortured. I think this would have to have an effect on his body. The nerve damage an attack like this would cause makes sense he would have an after effect. I believe the pain probably came on slowly up until the battle of Hogwarts where I think it would have had a stronger effect afterwards. This is n’t strongly textually supported, but we know curses and magic can have lasting effects.
