Thinking about the contrasting hairstyles my human Barnaby B Beagle and Perry The Platypus (I just realized their names mirror in a satisfying way) have between them. I put a lot of thought into how they wear their hair and how it functions in their life and the stories their hair tell
Barnaby's hair is very loud and expressive. He loves to change things up and keep it fresh every few months. He loves colorful extensions and bold shapes. Huge colorful afros and afro-puffs. Through his hair we know Barnaby highly values his individuality and feeling like the most interesting person in the room due to his NPD. He was taught how to do his own hair as a young age and it shows. He doesn't like to confirm and he's not afraid to look pretty as a man.
Perry the Platypus is the exact opposite in so many ways. Perry keeps the same short buzzcut for YEARS. His hair stays indistinguishable to keep his secret identity a secret. His hair tells us that Perry tends to do as he's told and doesn't explore is style publicly. In private he wears durags to feel something in the safety of privacy. Perry was adopted into a white family who didn't know how to maintain black hair so it was usually just shaved. But we also see his hair finally changes as he retires from the OWCA and explores who he is. He starts wearing cornrows and grows out his hair more. And eventually it's a hairstyle that can't be easy hidden under a hat, and that's a visual metaphor for Perry being more free to express himself.
I love character design
