My fault •Sam Wilson x Reader•
Where Y/N and Sam are on mission together for the first time in a while, and both get distracted which causes complete chaos
“Sam?” Her ears were ringing from the explosion, a sharp pain running through her stomach as she turned over. “Sam?!” She could barely hear herself as she sat up, groaning in pain as she looked down. “Oh fuck.” She muttered at the piece of metal that was inserted in her stomach. Y/N looked through the rubble and the smoke, holding her hand in front of her mouth to keep her coughing. “Sam!” She called out, trying to stand up but failing miserably as she saw her fiancé laying a couple feet behind her. On her fours she crawled over, ripping open her hands on shards of glass and metal but she couldn’t care less.
“We— somebody come get us out.” Y/N voice was faint as she prayed her earpiece was still working, she let herself fall against the wall next to Sam, putting her hand on his chest in hopes to feel his heartbeat, but instead she was met by an abyss consuming her.
“We need to get her to a hospital, now!” She heard a voice so familiar yet so strange as she tried to open her eyes, just to fall back into the abyss. “She has lost too much blood!” Again she tried to open her eyes, succeeding and being met by Tony, who was carrying her out of the facility on a stretcher. He also could fly her out of the facility, but he wouldn’t risk more damage than there already was. Her head fell to the side, seeing Steve and Thor carrying the other stretcher. Tears filled up her eyes as she saw her fiancé laying on the stretcher, his lifeless body being carried out by his best friend. “Sam?” She asked as she choked on her sobs, now the others finally seeing that she was awake too. “Sam?!” She tried to scream but her voice failed her horribly as it cracked, and with every sob more pain ate up her body, but she couldn’t care less. “Cap, walk a bit faster will you?” Tony urged the blonde who obeyed, and now Y/N was a sobbing mess. “Sam.” She whispered as she closed her eyes, tears still running over her face.
The next time she woke up, she was greeted by stinging light, a dry mouth and the smell of disinfectant. Even before she opened her eyes she knew that she was either in the hospital or in the medical wing in the compound.
There were those 3 seconds where her head was empty, before realization hit her. And once again tears filled up her eyes. She killed her fiancé. They just played around, just being stupid while on mission. Tony was right, they would get distracted. They thought they were safe, playing around but not even noticing the bomb that was in the wall just a few feet away from them. And the next thing she knew was flying through the room, being almost instantly knocked out cold before waking up a few minutes later to her husbands lifeless body.
“Y/N?” Her head shot up as Tony entered the room, the others standing in the hallway. “Leave Tony.” She muttered as she reached for the glass of water by her side, groaning in pain. She took a sip of the water, clearing her throat. Tony was quiet, instead of leaving the room, taking a seat beside her on the bed. “Tony, leave! Please.” Her eyes filled up with tears as she remembered what she saw when she was being carried outside. Tony didn’t say a thing, taking her hand instead. A few minutes of silence passed as tears made their way down her face. “I killed him Tony.” she sobbed. “It’s my fault—“ “Y/N—“ “I knew you were right—“ “Y/N—“ “Stop!—“ “He isn’t dead!” Tony now said, his voice loud as he looked at Y/N whose jaw was almost kissing the ground right there. “He isn’t?” She stuttered as she looked at Tony. “No, he’s fine. I wish we could get rid of him that easily, but he was just knocked out when you flew against him.” And that was enough for Y/N to rip the IV out of her arm, pulling off the heart monitor contacts that were sticking to her chest and ripping of the oxygen that was in her nose. “Y/N you can’t do that.” Tony scolded as he stood up. “Hell yes I can.” She muttered, crying out in pain as she sat up. “At least let me get you a wheelchair.” Tony groaned, already knowing that he couldn’t talk her out of this.
And now she was being rolled down the hallways of the hospital by Tony. Y/N heart was racing as she stood in front of Sam’s door. What if all this was just a cruel game of her mind and when she woke up he was actually gone? Y/N shook her head as Tony opened the door, rolling her inside.
“Sam!” She said loudly as she saw her fiancé who flinched before turning his head, an instant grin falling over his face. “Y/N!” Sam laughed and before Tony even had the opportunity to roll her up to the bed, she stood up almost collapsing to the ground but luckily the bed was within reach. “They said you were in unstable condition—“ “I thought you were dead!” Y/N cried as she kissed her fiancé, who tried to pull her in without hurting her. Y/N was sobbing as she let go of him, leaning her forehead against his. “I thought I killed you.” She whispered as Sam scooted a bit over in the hospital bed, letting Y/N lay down beside him. “The doctors said you saved me from being killed. I was crouching behind you when the blast happened, if it wasn’t for you it would have decapitated me.” Sam muttered as he carefully pulled her to his side.
“I think I lost the engagement ring.” Y/N frowned. “No, they gave it to me when you were in surgery.” Sam muttered, hovering over her as he took the ring from the bedside table. “And that’s a promise that we’ll never go on mission together.” Sam chuckled as he slipped the ring on her finger, making Y/N laugh as tears were in her eyes. “Yeah, that was definitely traumatizing.” She chuckled as she put her head onto Sam’s chest, looking at their friends who smiled at them.
And she knew that she had one hell of luck, both making it out alive and having people that cared about her as much as her second family did. She really couldn’t ask for anything better than this.
