For a while, I stuck with 594 as my tritype. It makes sense being that I am high on the withdrawn scale and relate a lot to 4 drives, of course, sp/so. I was waffling between 4 and 2 as my hearttype but I recently settled on 2w3, relating to the 2 wanting to be the “special friend” and having anxiety and people pleasing tendencies. While I am reluctant to get attached, once I do I can be quite the people pleaser. I attribute my 4 drives to my huge 4 wing and sp 4 and sp 2 having some similarities. I am heart last so that is where some of the waffling came in.

Self Preservation 2s has a repressed, stoic thing about them but they focus a lot on the needs of others. They wear themselves out for people ignoring their own needs. They have an entitled expectation lurking beneath the surface, for others to take care of them. I want to please people who I let in and wile I want to be independent, part of me wants my needs met by others, subconsciously expecting something in return. Being generous and going out of their way to please people are key traits of 2s. They may also have an entitlement bubbling beneath the surface and feelings of resentment.

I relate to 2w3 over 2w1 because I relate to the more image-oriented potential ambitiousness of the subtype. Also the more energetic nature. People of the 2w3 subtype are friendly. When I am comfortable enough in a group, I can be this way. This type wants to be liked by everyone. I am very focussed on what people think and want to be liked. They often have a servant mentality.

592s tend to be shy, gentle, withdrawn, detached, and reserved. This tritype is an information hoarder but also has a helpful side to them. This tritype’s 9 and 2 think a lot about other people. This tritype often tries to tiptoe around negativity. This type can also potentially be strategic. This tritype also has a want to fit in. Twos try to deal with negative feedings via focussing on others.

Help! I can't tell whether I'm a 4w5 or a 5w4. I'm definitely an INFJ though, what's the difference?

So if you’re an INFJ, there’s a stronger likelihood that you’re a 4w5. I have an INFJ 5w4 tag, and a less plentiful INFJ 4w5. Try looking at the enneagramblogspot, they have a description for 4w5s and 5w4s. Honestly i think it’s best you look at this separate from myers briggs at first. They’re not meant to be used together and while it’s interesting to combine them when you’re sure of both, you don’t want to throw them together. There’s some correlations and when people say they’re an INFP 8 i like to point them in the right direction, but really any combo is possible.

I'm INTP 5w4, do you know how much Enneagram and MBTI relate to each other? Since you're INFJ 5w4, how might we be different? (This might be worded weirdly but I hope you understand my point)

MBTI and Enneagram operate completely differently and tend to overlap in certain ways, but not always (i.e. INTPs are usually 5s but occasionally 9s, very rarely anything else, etc)

INTP 5w4s fit the idea of numbing emotion, not expressing yourself because you simply don’t know how (weak Fe), living in your head being very analytic and critical, not stepping away from inside your head/physically implementing things because of lack of Te or Se, being weird for the sake of being weird, doesn’t want to try new things because they didn’t work out before.

INFJ 5w4 is different. Not expressing feelings because Fe fails to explain the complexity of Ni concepts, not trying any further than theory because of weak Se (not being able to physically implement, safer in concept), more likely to just happen to be strange, analytic and critical but in very different ways (Ni with a little Ti rather than heavy Ti). Doesn’t want to try things because they have predicted that it will not work out. Emotional numbness only out of loop, not out of nature.

INTP 5w4s are much more classic than INFJs in everything with the exception of the fact that INFJs fit the idea of not wanting to try things past theory much more. The disintegration to 7, including physical stimulus and distraction, fits INFJ more, as well, as does the integration to 8 with Ti developing.

Do you have any advice for a fellow INFJ 5w4 who is struggling to know what to do with their life/ isn't sure what to invest their time in?

One way my dad explains me and my interests is “you know I tried to get you to do so many activities when you were a kid- sports, piano, flute, dance- and you just absolutely refused to do it or hated it. but you are very sure of what you want, and if you know when you want to do something and you’re willing to put everything into it” and basically what I’m trying to suggest with that is that don’t let other people pressure you into doing things you don’t want to do. As a 5, it’s really difficult to try things and put ourselves out there because we often feel so utterly shitty about ourselves in those situations. Interests are supposed to be fun and if you are feeling like utter crap while doing them, you’re not having fun. (as a kid I used to say I hated fun because fun meant music lessons and soccer teams and shit) But usually 5s have a couple of things they feel comfortable with, and those things are usually independent activities where if they screw up, no one is there to see it and it doesn’t damage them. However useless they seem (and I mean useless- I don’t care if that activity is pokemon trivia, fucking do it). I like myers briggs, jewelry making, poetry- all things that I do by myself and all thing that no one ever told me to try. I knew I liked them and I did them with no blessing and no validation and I think that’s what you have to do. Be the kid in the high school movie and say “no mom, this isn’t our dream, its your dream” and go to ballet instead of football. Once you gain something you feel confident and happy doing, something you can validate yourself with, you have enough strength to try newer things and maybe gain and interest or talent that is more traditionally “realistic” in term so jobs or whatever.

As a 5w4, do you ever get the urge to isolate yourself from everyone for days, weeks, or even months? If so, how do you cope with that? (I'm an INFJ 5w4 and I've always had a tendency to isolate myself from everybody for long periods of time. I'm very hermit-like)

Yes, I do. What happens more often is when im in a social situation or just with people and fuck up in any way (P.E., a debate in class, a party, etc) I get the urge to shrink and want to leave and keep telling myself to shut up. I’m less hermit like now but I used to be really quiet and reclusive. There’s a strong chance you’re in an “Ni-Ti loop” (you might want to search that on my blog, identifying that problem could help you improve). What I mainly had to do was gain something I was good at so I could lean on it. That’s a common five tendency, learning about something in particular a whole lot just to have something to validate yourself with. Mine was myers briggs. I also ditched a fuckton of toxic relationships I had all at once and was alone for about a year. It really really extended my Ni-Ti loop and caused me to be really lonely and isolated, but when I went to high school and I was in a completely fresh situation, I felt much freer and more comfortable and it was a lot easier for me to trust people because I wasn’t being dragged down by shitty middle school friendships. I think INFJs are good with metamorphosis, if you change your situation completely (I did so with my school dynamics, and consequently my social dynamics), you’re likely to really develop as a person and ditch the crappy parts of your past, move on. It really helps you to a) stop letting your Fe cause you to just be like what people want you to be and b) gain a strong sense of self, of realizing you coped on your own for a long time and realizing you can face a new situation without anyone’s help and still function well.

As an INFJ type 5, do you find yourself relating more to the NT temperament than the NF temperament? I'm a fellow INFJ 5w4, and I often find myself feeling "too logical" to be a feeler. I feel too cold to be an NF, but too warm to be an NT. I also like debating. A lot... A lot of NFs seem to dislike debate as they perceive it as conflict... I don't at all. Are you similar to me?

I find that the “NT” and “NF” temperaments are a little ehh for my taste since they pretty much ignore functions. INFJs in general often have strong Ti after a while because it’s their tertiary function (INFJs, ISFJs, ENFPs, and ESFPs are more logical feelers than the other four) but I really do think that INFJ 5s tend to suppress their Fe because they feel like they can’t express themselves without fucking up (the five fear of being incapable and preferring to keep things theoretical) and their Ti gets stronger when trying to form an expertise to validate themselves. They may even find themselves in an Ni-Ti loop, (you can search “Ni-Ti loop” on my blog). Personally I avoid conflict way way less than other INFJs, but that might have less to do with being a 5 and more to do with having an extremely potent ENTJ 8 father. I had to learn to argue in order to adapt to achieve my goals in that environment, and to do that, I had to integrate to 8, making me more comfortable with debate.  I definitely agree with feeling more logical than other Feelers, that’s for sure.
