Your taste in characters in FASCINATING, and I mean that in only the best possible way. I massively fw the doctor who pantheon as a concept and could babble about the interpersonal dynamics between all of them for ages. Have you read the novelisation for The Giggle? It's entirely from the Toymaker's perspective and adds so much to each scene. Same guy that's writing it, James Goss, is writing it for the upcoming Lux novelisation too.

anon that is such a massive compliment, thank you so much!! 😂💖💖 AHHHH i want to hear all of your babbling about the Pantheon, they are one of my favourite things in Doctor Who!! goodness knows having Lux drop in for the party was the best surprise we could've received for this season (though a few of us did catch the Harvest Bringer | Harbinger connection early 😉)! YESSSSS not only have i read the novelisation of The Giggle, i've narrated it!!! i used to mod for a pretty large Toymaker-centric Discord server, and at the height of our fixation we did a group-read of the whole book, doing a few chapters every week 🙈💖 it was so so fun!! safe to say my copy is very well-thumbed 😳 omfg you have no idea how excited i got when i read it was going to be James Goss doing the novelisation!!!! he is a master of his craft: so inventive and funny, and he really gets the essence of the characters down so well. i can't wait to see what his approach is, and what extra tidbits we'll learn about Mr. Ring-A-Ding/Lux along the way 👀

thoughts on Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen by James Goss

Seriously one of the best sci fi books in that genre I've ever read! Incredible experience and never read anything like it, in the sense that I've never read a book from one media that is based on a book from a DIFFERENT media (or rather, The Krikkitmen was originally a plan for a Doctor Who movie but it never got made and so the story of the Krikkitmen became the base for Life, The Universe and Everything, long story short). It was like a crossover between 2 of my fave sci-fi medias it was awesome! And it felt perfect for a dr who story. The beginning and end was much similar, but everthing in between was very different, so i loved this different version of the Krikkitmen storyline!

It was amazing to read my first dr who book, i've only seen the show so far. I learnt a lot of lore and learnt a lot about the Doctor as a person and character, i love him even more now! And about Romana, she's awesome! I havnt seen the season she's in so idk who she was before reading lol. The universe was set up in an intresting and very chill and enjoyable way, very goofy and very British much like HGTTG. There were some clear differences, like the role and portrayal of religion (might make a seperate post about that idk), everyone drank tea (in HGTTG there is no earth-like tea in the galaxy), and language barriers being dealt with quick and easy. and the roles of human culture! It's intresting, the galazy in both worlds has very few humans innit, theyre mostly on earth, but human culture is everywhere, everyone are kinda .. english, or the very least human. there has not been put much time into developing advanced worlds with unique and brand new cultures, which is ok because chaotic comedy sci fi be like that. the universe is big and small at the same time and the history is long and scattered all over and there are so many planets and everything is possible!

There was lot of critique of different parts of society like capitalism and greed, and sexism and corrupt politics and the bureaucracy and organised religion and so on, very cool and fresh. it's also similar to HGTTG in the sense that the characters can travel around freely in time and space and anything can happen (the TARDIS and Heart of Gold) and theyre never bound to anything.

And holy macarony it was SO funny, i laughed so much! it was written in this incredibly clever and elegant way, it had absurd comparisons, footnotes, suprising and thoughtful formulations and jokes, the pacing was great, it painted hilarious pictures and scenes in my brain, but it was also beautiful. it had serious and deep scenes but even they had a lighthearted and funny frame around them, and i always always wanted to know what happened next. Gotta read more James Goss for SURE! agh i just adore this book, it was brilliant, I love Dr Who so much it's such a great universe with endless possibilites <3
