The Hollywood Reporter. Writers Roundtable (60 mins)
The last few days, I’ve been watching these videos of roundtable discussions with various creatives of the entertainment world. Let me tell you, these discussions are fascinating to watch. As a creative, it always intrigues me to find out how other creative people tackle their own creative journeys in their respective industries.
this is good for creatives
Being able to listen to how others deal with their creative challenges helps us figure out how we can deal with our own struggles as creatives. It helps when others can talk about their process, especially those that navigate multiple roles in their projects. Hearing them talk about their vast experiences of screenwriting (while others are just barely starting) and how develop a trust with their inner voice is comforting. We don’t have to have all the answers now, but we can still develop our own taste for what is good.
Close Up with The Hollywood Reporter Playlist
Here is a YouTube playlist of other conversations within this series. This playlist has Roundtables with Directors, Actor/Actresses, Producers, Songwriters, etc. Check these out and see what you can learn from these creatives.
Something I’ve been enjoying from the series is that the creatives will start to reference different items in their industry, adding some knowledge to the conversation. They can be referencing: actors, directors, movies, producers, etc., while the conversation is rolling, they put up little blurbs of information about the recently referenced item. This is very helpful for those of us not well versed in the entertainment world, such as myself, to keep us in the conversation. This was delightful to see, because each piece that they add to the conversation could easily become irrelevant to the viewer without the context. I’m glad they put the extra work in there, plus I can write any of these items down and do some research later.
