THE ART OF X-MEN '97 will release on June 17!!!
The Art X-Men '97 takes fans behind the scenes of Marvel Animations' Emmy-nominated revival to X-Men: The Animated Series.
Picking up where the original series left off when it aired its final episode in September 1997, this new series features returning cast members and a revamped but familiar art style.
Storyboards, character sketches, vehicle designs, new costumes, stills, animatic frames, cels, and so much more will show every step of the process that the talented team of animators, designers, and storytellers undertook to bring viewers the further adventures of Wolverine, Storm, Bishop, Beast, Jubilee, Cyclops, and the rest of Marvel's most famous mutants.

X-Men '97 Faces Backlash Over Non-Binary Morph, Original Creators Respond
"...The backlash against Morph's portrayal in X-Men '97 has been met with disappointment by the original creators. Julia Lewald, another co-creator, expressed her frustration, questioning whether the critics had missed the core message of the original series, which emphasized empathy, tolerance, and unity. Lewald highlighted the irony of revisiting the same issues of acceptance and inclusivity decades later. She said:
“Did we teach you people nothing? Were you not watching? Did we not figure out how to be nice to each other and how to get along? It’s very odd to feel like we are still dealing with the same issues that we were dealing with 30 years ago. It’s painful.”
Lenore Zann, the voice actor for Rogue, echoed the sentiment of spreading a message of hope and belonging through the series. She hopes that X-Men '97 will inspire viewers, particularly children, to embrace their differences and feel a sense of belonging in the world."
Duh nuh nuh nuh nuuuuuuuh nuhNUH! X-Men: The Animated Series was a big part of our introduction to the Marvel Universe. This comic is a little reality warping to gush about an early influence and one of the best Saturday morning cartoons of all time!
It's also a (belated) thank you. Months ago we reached out to creators of the series asking if they had any more of their "Previously On X-Men" hats available for purchase. Lucky for us they had a few in stock and on sale! Cue: gratuitous creator photo.
Hey Tumblr!!
If you're interested in getting one of these hats for your very own, you can email the Lewalds at [email protected]! (They also just released a gorgeous new book X-Men: The Art and Making of the Animated Series. Highly recommended!)

The new season continues with the heroic mutant team of X-Men, divided and thrown across different eras in time as they struggle to navigate their return home. Meanwhile, back in the 1990s, suspicious foes and new strains of mutant intolerance are on the rise in the wake of the X-Men’s absence.

Stan Lee was the Godfather of Marvel Comics, but he apparently wasn't a big fan of one of the best and most popular adaptations of the X-Men.
