Ethereal and Erotic Art through Photography —

A Japanese photographer, Hiroshi Nonami (野波浩), is known for his dramatic and breathtaking photographs of women. Nonami’s work is inspirational because of how he goes about getting to the end results. He experimented with “several techniques, including letting mold grow on the film (to create stains and patterns), and stacking his slides to combine images” (Campbell, 2012). It is exciting because results are never the same and unanticipated. He has successfully published visual books of his photography and is available to purchase on his website: “https://hiroshi-nonami.com/en/books-en/”. He remains active in the industry and posts recent work under the “News” section on his website. There are currently no public scandals regarding this artistic photographer, as Nonami is recognized as a respected creative in Japan and overseas galleries. Artists can take on creative choices that may sound orthodox, but it is boring to stay safe. Having fun and experimenting within the arts can be the ticket to one’s success.

IL MASSACRO DELLA KENT STATE UNIVERSITY: QUANDO L'ESERCITO SPARÒ SUGLI STUDENTI CHE MANIFESTAVANO CONTRO LA GUERRA DEL VIETNAM Siamo alla Kent State University, Ohio, negli Stati Uniti, è il 4 maggio 1970. Una folla di studenti protesta contro l'invio di truppe in Cambogia ordinato dal presidente Nixon. Una trentina di soldati della Guardia Nazionale apre il fuoco sui dimostranti. Quattro studenti vengono uccisi e nove feriti. John Paul Filo, che per questo scatto vincerà il Pulitzer, era soltanto uno studente universitario con una grande passione per gli scatti. Si trovava proprio nel laboratorio di fotografia quando sentì esplodere gli spari. Corse fuori armato di una Nikkormat con la pellicola Tri-X ed iniziò a darsi da fare. Sfiorato da un proiettile vagante per un attimo abbandonò lo strumento e iniziò a correre più lontano possibile dalla carneficina. Ma poi improvvisamente tornò sui suoi passi mosso dalla convinzione che fosse necessario documentare quello che stava accadendo. Si ritrovò ad immortalare uno dei momenti più significativi di quella tragica giornata. Mary Vecchio, inginocchiata sul corpo ormai senza vita di Jeffrey Miller, piange disperatamente invocando il nome di Dio. Il massacro della Kent State, così passerà alla storia questo terribile episodio, rappresentò un punto di svolta nel dibattito sulla guerra in Indocina. Gran parte dell'opinione pubblica americana comprese che il Vietnam era ormai una storia senza via d'uscita. Neil Young scrisse la canzone Ohio, dedicandola ai quattro ragazzi uccisi. During a protest against expansion of the Vietnam War into Cambodia at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, national guardsmen opened fire on the crowd of 500 protesters, killing 4. On April 30th 1970, President Nixon announced plans to draft 150,000 soldiers into the Vietnam War to fight in the Cambodia Incursion which had begun days prior. Outraged students shocked to hear that Nixon was disobeying his campaign promises took to the streets to voice their concern. On May 4th, as students protested a group of 77 guardsmen stood watching over a veranda where the students were protesting. At 12:24 p.m., Sgt. Myron Pryor turned and fired at the students with a .45 pistol believing he heard gunshots. 29 of the other guards fired as well totalling 67 shots in 13 seconds. When the smoke cleared four students were dead; Jeff Miller (20) was shot through the mouth and into the brain in the protest, Allison Krause (19) died later that day after being shot in the chest while protesting, William Schroeder (19) died one hour later whilst walking between classes from a fatal chest wound and Sandra Scheuer (20) died almost instantly while walking between classes, she was shot in the throat. I feel like I haven’t updated like anyone with what’s going on in my life, so this post is for everyone who doesn’t already know. Like in October I was talking to my friend and I was telling her how bored I was not being in school. She told me to just go for it and apply for the spring semester of whatever school I wanted to go to. That night I decided to apply for Kent State and major in fashion design kinda on a whim. I got in, everything started moving really fast and I like told no one. I’m not very good at follow through, as we all know, so I didn’t want to tell everyone and then decide to not go. Well we are on the 3rd week and I’m still going. My major is currently Pre Fashion Design, I become an actual fashion major in fall. I’m probably going to minor in history. I’m currently set up to graduate in May 2023. So yeah that’s what’s going on in my life. I’m still working at Joann’s and am going to continue.
