still working on my longform chapter of andrew for my texting fic but in the midst of writing that, here's the potential opening for my Kevin + his four boyfriends fic

disclaimer: this needs a LOT of editing, there's a ton of run on sentences, but when I draft I don't care about quality, i care about getting it out onto the page, so apologies if this sounds terrible

Chapter One

Some mornings looked like this: with Kevin waking up alone in his bed to the sounds of light traffic and birds, and some shuffling coming from the hallway. He glanced at the clock, where dim neon lightning indicated that it was just a quarter past five in the morning, and any minute now Neil would pass by his room for his run. Sometimes, he would crack open the door, and stick his head in to check on him. Sometimes Kevin was awake and other times he was asleep. Sometimes Neil wouldn’t bother. He’d head out the door, go for his run and then come home. On the mornings that Neil didn’t check on him before his run, Kevin could usually guarantee that Neil would check on him afterwards, once he had come home, hot and sweaty, head poking through the cracked door to wish him good morning. Sometimes, if Neil was feeling up to it, he would come into the room, and press a gentle kiss to his forehead, to which Kevin would whine, and push him away because he stank from the sweat and Neil would laugh, and disappear back into the hall to shower.

Sometimes Andrew would check on him too, lingering in the doorway while Neil showered. Andrew would never enter until Kevin sat up in bed and told him it was okay to come closer. If he was lucky, Andrew might even run his fingers through his hair, using that as leverage to tilt his head back. And Kevin would hum, his body still full of sleep and Andrew would lean down to kiss him before wandering off into the kitchen to make breakfast. By that point, it would be past 6 am, and Kevin knows he should get up, but if he stays in bed, Neil will come looking for him after his shower and sit on the edge of the bed with him, and tell him about the things he saw on his run in a gentle candance and Kevin will close his eyes to listen. He will grab Neil’s hand, and gently run his thumb over the back of hand, tracing lazy shapes until Andrew comes in to tell them that breakfast is ready, and only then will Kevin force himself out of the comfort of his bed.

it’s a little bit funny how the names in aftg are so short and mundane that Kevin ends up being the first part of every ship he’s involved in; while in ye olde tradition of ship names the top comes first and bottom second, and Kevin? Kevin is actually very rarely the top…

Being a multishipper is simultaneously the best and worst thing because listen… listen…

My first experience with multishipping was back in my Glee days. I was a die hard Klaine.

I scoffed at the thought of either Blaine or Kurt being shipped with anyone else.

And then Sebastian Smythe waltzed in.

Something just clicked. And all of a sudden Kurtbastian just made sense. And the fics… god the fics!!! shout out A Change in the Weather my unfinished queen

And then All for the Game happened and Andreil took my number one spot. I would die for them! I cannot see them with anyone else but each other because Andrew and Neil just make so much sense. I see them and it’s just like yes, you belong together.

But… Kevin and Jean. Kandreil. Kevneil. Kandrew. Jeaneil.

The problem with multishipping isn’t that you shouldn’t be doing it because the canon couple are meant to be only with each other or whatever the fuck antis might say. The problem especially within AFTG is that we get so many crumbs of the possibilities and THEY WILL NEVER BE CANON!

We can only speculate. We can only DREAM of what these other ships could be but we will never really know for sure and that hurts 😔

The ling rings. Rings. Rings. There’s no message preceding the answering machine, just a painful beep and the static of Jeremy’s own breathing being logged. He cuts it and tries again, then switches to text messages before the recording starts. His fingers tremble when he types, sweaty beyond measure—his thumb slips on the screen, blurring the pixels of his own words. Call me back. It’s for Jean. A cruel manipulation tactic, but an effective one. Jeremy picks up the instantaneous incoming call, not placing a word before Neil Josten opens with a stiff, “What’s wrong?” “He’s with me.” Jeremy’s own voice is clipped, so unlike the usual sunshine he makes a point to instill even with the most contrarian acquaintance. Jeremy glances at Jean, still painfully dragging air through his nostrils, eyes steadily overflowing with silent tears, his words an interrupted stream of breathy French Jeremy can’t pick up on. The urge to go to him, hold him, is painful down to his marrow, but he can’t risk it. He half turns away, forcing the factual words out, disincarnate. “He’s on the phone with Kevin. I need you to find him—Kevin.” In the background, there’s rustling, a monotone question. Minyard, certainly. Muffled sounds make it through the receiver as Neil angles it to his shoulder to answer—then, the clarity of their dorms' surroundings erupts, like when one’s head comes out of water, just for Neil to begin crossly, “What—” Jeremy rarely interrupts anyone, least someone as terrifying as Neil Josten, but he’s running out of time: “He’s intoxicated. He’s intoxicated, I don’t know what he took, and he didn't give us any clue on where he is aside from the fact that it’s a basement with a lot of echo. He’s losing consciousness, and I need you to find him now. Please.”
