Citrus Aurantifolio, what I like to call the Haitian limes as the ones grown here are so much more flavorful then Mexican or Key Limes from my experience. These were grown from some air layered branches that are still in pots. The smell from the skin of these are unlike any other lime you’ve ever come across. Native to Indomalayan region, limes were virtually unknown in Europe prior to 1300, was probably carried by Crusaders from the Middle East through North Africa to the Mediterranean and Western Europe. In the sixteenth century, seeds were taken by Spaniards and Portuguese sailors to their colonies in the Americas. Lime trees were reportedly growing in Haiti around 1520. These limes thrive in humid, warm climates, and is now grown in most tropical and subtropical countries around the world. Fun fact, limes were issued to British sailors in the nineteenth century to prevent scurvy caused by a lack of vitamin C during long voyages. Today I made a Dr. Sebi inspired “Italian Salad.” This alkaline electric dish was made with 2 cups romaine lettuce, 1 cup of cooked oyster mushrooms, 6 cherry tomatoes cut in half, 1/4 of a yellow pepper, 1/4 of a very small red onions (sliced), dried oregano, fresh basil, black olives, and grated brazil nuts ( using a microplane grater.)
