Buddie | Rated E | 8k
Summary: Eddie just wants to jerk off in a button down. Buck keeps making that a problem, until he doesn't.
Finally I get to add my contribution to Buddie's S8 best hits!
✰ Inspo includes @tidesreach's post and @gayhoediaz's of bookmarks and bravery ✰
Contrary to popular belief, Buck is not an idiot. In accordance with popular belief, Buck is certainly not an idiot when it comes to sex. From the moment he opens Eddie's front door, it takes approximately seven seconds for him to realize he's intruded on a particularly private moment.
Buddie Theory 101
One of the strongest aspects of Buddie scenes is the symbolism within them. Whether it's the location they're at, the activity they're doing, or even the colors presented, there is always some element that is constant throughout their scenes together. Below are brief explanations about each "theory" & example scenes. I made this as a little game so I can watch the rest of Season 8B & pick up on which theory is being utilized, but thought it would be fun if I shared.
Kitchen Theory
The kitchen (& dining room) represents love, as the kitchen stores food to provide energy, & love is stored in the kitchen. Buck & Eddie have very domestic scenes in the kitchen. Often they would have intimate/vulnerable conversations with each other here. The kitchen is also where the duo have most of their breakups (Taylor, Ana, Tommy). Also gateway to lasagna theory.
Couch Theory
Couches are a metaphor for relationships, as you “settle down” with someone. This theory has been popularized in Season 6, when Eddie is confronting Buck about Taylor & his past relationships. Buck gets an armchair to signify his single journey. Later in the season, he crashes on Eddie's couch because he feels comfortable there.
Beer Theory
Beer symbolizes the bond between Buck & Eddie, as it is one of their favorites hobbies to do together. Almost anytime they’re at each others house, they share a beer while hanging out together.
Universe Theory
Theory that there is a higher power (universe) trying to court Buck & Eddie together as they are looking for exactly what the other provides. The "universe" keeps putting them in situations that bring the men closer together in impactful ways, like the tsunami, shooting, etc.
Heart Theory
Theory that the heart symbolism in Season 5 was specifically for Buck & Eddie. This theory was kick-started by Carla in the previous season, telling Eddie to be sure "follow his heart” after introducing her to Ana. The next season has several heart related instances, like a heart attack call in an airport, a heart transfer call in a helicopter, Eddie’s panic attack scare, Buck’s heart drawing, etc.
Christopher Theory
Christopher is the human embodiment of Buck & Eddie’s persons, being their "son". They are confused as a family, and Christopher portrays qualities of both. Obviously he is Eddie's son, but he shares traits with Buck as well, such as abandonment issues & being a Casanova. Buddie's involvement in Chris's life allows them to heal their inner childs, and grow together as a family. This is signified in the Season 4 finale, where Eddie deems Buck as Christopher's legal guardian in his will.
Door Theory
Doors are symbolic of someone’s life. When entering a relationship, you will be integrated in your partner’s personal life. Leaving the door represents leaving the world of the partner. When Buck & Eddie breakup with their partners, they usually leave a door (Abby, Ana, Taylor, Tommy). With Buddie, they open doors to each other, stepping in each other’s lives & staying. An often credited scene is 5x13 "Buck is in the Room". Eddie closes himself off to crash out, and Buck was the only one that could reach him.
Color Theory
Theory that certain colors/lighting they are portrayed during certain moments are tied to Buddie. Buck has a signature blue and Eddie has a signature green, but many other colors have significance to the duo depending on the situation they're in. This theory works in tandem with the Clothing Theory & Magnet Theory.
Clothing Theory
States that certain clothing Buck and Eddie wear are symbolic to their relationship (shirts, suits, etc). This theory can be tied with color theory, as Buck & Eddie wear their signature blue & green colors on their clothing. Buddie’s poker night blue & red suits & Buck’s breakup green are also notable (shoutout costume department: one of us).
Magnet Theory
Theory that magnets, pictures, or anything on the fridge is significant to Buddie. They each have pictures of each other & their families, but Eddie specifically has a certain array of magnets that carry messages of their own.
Music Theory
Theory states that the music choices during Buddie scenes are chosen because the lyrics align with their relationship/whatever they’re going through at the moment. The best example of this is 3x03, which Photograph by Ed Sheeran plays as Buck & Eddie share a heart to heart.
Horse Theory
There is a horse/cowboy analogy going on that was started with Ana in 3x12, talking about getting back on the horse. She tells Eddie that it's okay for some people to not like horses. In 5x14, Buck takes the Diazes to equine therapy. Chris gets horse riding lessons while Buck and Eddie have a heart to heart. Eddie calls Buck cowboy before he gets struck, and Buck dresses as a cowboy for Halloween.
Back Theory
Honestly probably the biggest one here. The Back Theory references Buck & Eddie's devotion to each other, having each others' backs and helping care for each other. This promise was made to each other in their first episode together. This was a promise Buck made to Abby, his first ex (1x05). Ravi briefly states that partners in a relationship should have each other's backs while sitting directly next to Buck (5x18). Also, when Buddie engage in physical embrace, they often go for each other's backs or shoulders.
CONCLUDE
So those are all the main theories laid out. I didn't get into too much details because I just wanted it to be a general post & I'll be here all day dissecting each individual scene. There are other posts on here that go into much greater details about these theories. The 8x06 Confessions ending had about half of these btw, which is why everyone was going crazy about the scene. Here's to 8B!!!!
note was on the couch military-grade folded sheets on the couch couch theory is ALIVE. TO ME. couch of MOMENTS. Eddie being a snarky little bitch about leaving just to take Buck from a frustrated low to a surprised high. Just like Buck did with Freddie Fakeman. A little prank to make the real kind, gentle moment that much sweeter
married argument was in the kitchen cariño was in the kitchen kitchen theory is is ALIVE. TO ME. Beating HEART of the Diaz house of Buck's house of busting apart and reconnecting and the service of feeding your family of helping them in a shared grief
Bi!BUCK WENT CANON IN THE KITCHEN!!!
Day 13: kitchen @poemsbybuddie
Is this the first Buddie kitchen scene in Buck's new house?
去年才開始注意到Charles Spence這號人物,發現The Fat Duck的名菜Sound of the Sea竟然是他和Heston Blumenthal合作的結果。
