✧Gwyneth Berdara as the Cleric✧
Clerics are intermediaries between the mortal world and the distant planes of the gods. As varied as the gods they serve, clerics strive to embody the handiwork of their deities. No ordinary priest, a cleric is imbued with divine magic.
"The temple was her sanctuary, the blade her altar, but she would honor her Goddess and her Court with bravery of the mind before deferring to bloodshed."

WIP: The Gods We Choose, Chapter XVI
AKA two delusional idiots discuss their religious trauma in a very cramped tent
"Mystra knew she needed to reestablish her following on Toril to grow in power and influence, and she knew that one of the best ways to do that was to—"
"—name more Chosen," Tamsin whispered as the piece clicked into place. Of course; she remembered that era well. The Second Sundering had set every deity scrambling to consolidate power. Even Oghma's clergy had felt the pressure, though they'd kept to observing and cataloging while others went to war.
"Indeed," Gale said softly. "She came to me within days of her return. Appeared in my study and told me I'd become everything she'd hoped for. That after a hundred years, I would be her first new Chosen—the Silver Fire, the power, everything I'd been promised."
His voice dropped. "And I accepted. Eagerly."
"Of course you did," Tamsin teased; but although her tone was light, there was a hint of fondness beneath it.
Gale looked up sharply. "I'm... not sure you take my meaning."
"What?"
A ruddy flush spread across his cheeks. "I wasn't just honored. I was besotted. Every task she set me, I performed with the devotion of more than a mere disciple." He stopped himself, cleared his throat. "I wanted to prove I was worthy of the distinction she'd granted me."
He couldn't meet her eyes. "And eventually—when she was fully restored—she rewarded that devotion. She came to my tower. And we became... intimate."
Whatever Tamsin had expected him to say next, it hadn't been that.
"Oh," she managed. Heat flooded her face and she found her gaze dropping to his knee—safe, boring, entirely unerotic—only to realize with a jolt how close it was to hers.
I'm not sure if anyone is still keeping up with my glacially slow burning longfic but I swear I haven't abandoned it ❤️

Shadowheart & the Knowledge Domain🦉
Anyone else respec their Selûnite Shadowheart to a Knowledge Cleric after the Shadowfell?
"Let all who worship the changing tides of Life and Knowledge feel the blessing of Selûne. Trust in the purity of my light, see the constancy in its inconstancy, and you will be guided aright." -inscription on Selûne statue in the Stormshore Tabernacle.
Selûne and the Changing Tides
I thought Knowledge Domain was the most fitting domain thematically for my Selûnite Shadowheart. Most importantly, Knowledge is one of Selûne's divine domains, directly opposed to the philosophies of the Shar, and Shadowheart's movement towards a Selûnite domain is representative of the choices she makes in her story.
Shar sees knowledge, truths and the experience of living as sources of suffering and sorrow, remedied only by "darkness"; lies, illusions, numbness and ultimately the nothingness of death. On the other hand Selûne encourages her followers to step out of the "darkness" into the/her "light"; to embrace the truths and the experiences of life, no matter how painful, scary or unsettling they may be. Beauty is to be found in the "changing tides of life and knowledge" and to swim against these currents is to drown; to lose yourself. For Sharrans, faith is escapism from suffering while for Selûnites, faith is the eye of the storm that keeps them adaptable and resilient, and helps them embrace the changes that life and knowledge bring. When Shadowheart saves the Nightsong, she is embracing such change and hence rejecting Shar; she choses to reckon with the knowledge she's uncovered and value the life of the Nightsong. She puts her faith in the truth, no matter how painful, and in the possibilities of a life she's yet to live, and so she leaves the darkness and steps into the light.
Shadowheart: I... I can't believe I just did that. Lady Shar will disown me... what will happen to me? Nightsong: Not what will happen - what will you do. Your past is not yet lost. Your future is not yet fixed.
Light of Knowledge and Life
"Adaptable and adroit in all manner of languages and skills, your mind is an intellectual cup brimming with exquisite knowing." -BG3's Knowledge Domain description.
So for me the respec after the Shadowfell was necessary as it signified Shadowheart's turn to the light and to Selûne, which meant that she would have to become either a Life and Knowledge Cleric.
Selûne's Knowledge Domain champions inquisitiveness, adaptability, resourcefulness and skill, in direct contrast to the Shadowheart's previous Trickery Domain, which values deceit, secrets, illusion and cunning. The Life Domain on the other hand values healing, compassion, equality and protection. Considering how important unravelling and reckoning with the mystery of her past is, I thought the Knowledge Domain and its intrigue was more representative of Shadowheart and her choices than the loftier Life Domain.
The Knowledge Domain also gives Shadowheart access to all proficiencies under an ability score each long rest, the ability to read the thoughts of any creatures she interacts with until a long rest, and numerous Wizard spells which Clerics would not otherwise have access to. Essentially, the Knowledge Domain gives Shadowheart a lot of versatility and adaptability, guiding her aright as she rides the tides of change.
Whoops, was so mentally checked out yesterday I forgot to post this here.

D&D 5e Build: Tamiyo, Compleated Sage
I just knew I had to make Tamiyo, my new favorite (and only) Simic Phyrexian planeswalker, as a D&D build. She was incredibly fun to create, with a huge array of spells to choose from and surprisingly fitting race and class options. I want to actually play something like this in a 20th-level game now.
Stats: STR 10, DEX 12, CON 11, INT 20, WIS 14, CHA 14
Tamiyo seems to me like a person with no dump stat, with her mental stats especially high. Unfortunately she had to have lower Con than I would’ve liked, but this was remedied with feats, below.
Race: Reborn with flying speed
Reborn make amazing Phyrexians, with no need to eat, drink, sleep, or breathe, exceptional resistance against poison, and advantage on death saving throws. They even have “Knowledge from a Past Life”, a feature that lets them add d6 to ability checks a limited number of times per day: a perfect mechanical representation of ancestral oil memories if I’ve ever seen one.
I’m assuming here that Tamiyo made the switch to Reborn sometime after her game began from a former race that would have had a flying speed.
Background: Sage
Proficiencies: Arcana (expertise), History (expertise), Insight, Investigation, Medicine, Perception, Common, Celestial, Phyrexian, Vedalken
The dip into Knowledge cleric gave her a very fitting expertise in Arcana and History (and makes her far more capable of casting from spell scrolls). We know from story that her insight, investigation, medicine, and perception skills are excellent as well. I’m considering Celestial the language of the kami, and I figured that she would know Vedalken as it’s the language of scientific discourse on many planes with the race.
Class: Order of Scribes Wizard 19/Knowledge Cleric 1
The Order of Scribes is literally perfect for Tamiyo: a bookish, Int-based class that centers around collecting spells and creating scrolls and books. I took a 1-level dip into Knowledge Cleric to allow for more cantrips, expertise in Int skills, and the ability to cast important cleric spells I think she should have (i.e. Lesser Restoration) from spell scrolls.
Spellbook:
Tamiyo’s spellbook was fittingly massive and took me hours, but it was so worth it. (The spells that we’ve seen her cast canonically, in D&D terms: message, ray of frost, hold person, dispel magic, nondetection, remove curse, telepathic bond, and probably more.)
I focused on control magic primarily, which unfortunately means the damage-switching part of the Scribes subclass doesn’t come into play super often; I do recommend using force damage for Fireball whenever possible, though. She’s been referred to as a “mind mage” in story before, which I tried to reflect by giving her some psionic-flavored spells and divination. You’ll also see quite a bit of abjuration, illustrated by her key role in shielding Jace from Emrakul during Eldritch Moon and her attempts to protect the Reality Chip.
Illusory Script is from a magic item I gave her, an emerald pen. I just thought it was neat.
I suggest giving her many spell scrolls of cleric spells like Lesser and Greater Restoration, which she shouldn’t have too much trouble casting with her +17 to Arcana.
Feats: Fey Touched (Bless), Resilient (Con), Eldritch Adept (Eldritch Mind), Telekinetic
We’ve seen Tamiyo use telekinesis a lot in canon, and giving her a free Bless once a day seemed to fit with her ability to strengthen and protect her allies with stories. Resilient and Eldritch Mind were taken to address the problem of her low Con, and flavorfully they represent her Phyrexian constitution. As an alternative feat to take, someone suggested Inspiring Leader.
