━━ oikawa;
oikawa had always been good about hiding his nerves. he made a habit of hiding his anxieties with a charismatic smile and witty line.
this is why his current predicament was a statistical outlier.
he sat at the door of the gym, where he could hear the impact of volleyballs on the ground and the sharp chirps of shoes against the floor. he could also hear his heart pounding in his ear and feel the heat rising from his chest to the tips of his ears. his palms were sweaty and he couldn’t manage to make himself stand still.
it was when he heard your voice call his name that he felt relief wash over him. for a moment, anyway.
you smiled. you were so happy, so excited, to finally meet his friends. don’t get him wrong — he was excited to show you off, and to finally get to brag about how great you were to his friends. the issue he had was the insecurity biting at him.
“are you ready?” you asked, voice near-mockingly sweet for how nervous he felt.
“of course, my dear,” he smiled, placed a quick kiss to your forehead, and grabbed your hand. his thumb began to rub small circles around your knuckles, although you couldn’t help but think that maybe it was more so to calm his nerves than yours.
as the door shut with an awkwardly-loud bang, his team stopped. a single volleyball bounced once more against the floor and hit iwaizumi in the ankle almost comically.
“hey,” he started. his mouth was dry. was he breathing fast? he felt like he wasn’t getting enough air. “this, this is y/n. i’m sure you’ve heard me-”
“they’re your partner, right?” mattsun called.
you squeezed his hand. the smile on your face eased the fluttering in his chest, almost, almost making him forget about the fact that he hadn’t said anything.
“yes. yes, they are.” he realized now that he was smiling. he squeezed your hand back. “and i imagine that they’ll be around for a while, so get used to their face.
━━ iwaizumi;
“i’m excited!” oikawa whined.
of course he was excited. excited because he knew how much oikawa had been itching to embarrass him ever since his relationship status had reached oikawa’s ears. iwaizumi, as much as he adored you, was painfully aware of this fact and had been equally concerned to introduce you to setter.
“i’m aware, ‘kawa, just don’t scare them off at the earliest convenience. okay?”
“loud and clear.” oikawa gave a mock-salute and sat back in his chair. it earned a small smile, but it didn’t change the fact that iwaizumi was a little bit concerned still.
a knock was heard on the door.
iwa was on his feet in his second and opening the door just as quickly. he met you with a smile, although you weren’t ignorant to the nerves hiding behind it. he had taken the time to text you on your way over and warn you that oikawa might subject you to embarrassing stories and (well-meaning) jokes at iwa’s expense.
“hey! i’m y/n,” you spoke.
“it’s nice to meet you,” oikawa smiled and stood up to meet you where you were standing just in side the door. “i’m oikawa. although i’m sure your boyfriend talks about me at all hours of the day.”
“whatever helps you sleep at night.” iwaizumi said. “anyway, you can come in and sit.”
oikawa mock bowed; back bent perfectly, one arm tucked under his chest and one against his back, pleased look on his face. the whole nine yards.
this was going to be… fun.
━━ kurro;
“i would imagine that i know how to impress my own partner.” kurro frowned.
“do you?” kenma asked, holding up the flowers he had gotten you.
he always meant well with gifts. although there were some times where he sent them without really knowing why he was getting them — he just liked to give you things, he supposed. regardless, he had bought the flowers with the thought process of them being a peace offering between you and his friends. why he needed a peace offering, he didn’t know, but he just wanted the interaction to go smoothly.
his favorite people were meeting each other. he was allowed to be a little nervous, alright?
that said, he drew his attention back to the flowers. met his black stare, kenma sighed.
“the thorns. and the leaves. take them off.” kenma huffed. he handed the bouquet back over to kurro. from beside the black-haired individual, bokuto gave the flowers a tentative sniff.
“get your nose out of their flowers!” kurro frowned again.
bokuto held his hands up in defense, although the three of them were now laughing. he joined kenma on the couch and left kurro to tend to the flowers. from his trek to the kitchen, they vaguely heard something and timing and leaves, although they couldn’t have been bothered to clear up whatever he had been babbling about.
that was, until a few minutes later when the two of them heard a knock. they shared a knowing look before bokuto fell over himself trying to race to the door. he opened it with record speed and a crazed look on his face.
you looked surprised to see him at the least.
“hi. uhm, bokuto, i assume?”
from behind him, you watched as a blonde grabbed the back of his shirt and dragged him back into the house. he offered you an apologetic look. he called for kurro, before looked back at you.
“sorry. you can come in. well… it’s not my house, but you can come in.”
you blinked. well, ok then.
you stepped inside in time to see bokuto plopping himself down on the couch and kenma walking over to join him. as if on cue, kurro rounded the corner with roses in his hand.
his eyes darted from you, to the two of his friends, and then back to you. he looked akin to a deer caught in headlights before he muttered a preemptive apology for the two of them.
Kuroo really didn’t deserve her. He had quite possibly one of the worst days in his life and just wanted to crawl in a cave in die. Kenma was out of the country and didn’t have a phone that could pick up reception from another country, so he couldn’t even call his best friend to tell him about the crappy day that he had.
He was gonna get home way later that normal, witch meant that Y/N would probably be asleep or trapped in her office working way past midnight and wouldn’t want to be disturbed. He assumed that the house was a mess because the pair of them made a mess the night before and made no attempt to clean it up, and he knew that Y/N had a busy day and had no time to clean so he now had a crappy day, and now had to clean a mess because he promised Y/N that he would when he got home. He also had no clean shirts for work so he would have to do a load of laundry.
But when he got home the house smelled oddly clean, for 2 day old dishes in the sink and weeks of his dirty gym socks in the hamper.
“ My love,... is that you?” he heard you call from the bedroom.
“ Yeah it’s me princess.” he replied. He walked through the door and dropped his bag off at the door and ditched his coat on the floor in front of it, not even bothering to pick it up.
The living room was... clean. The coffee table was dusted and the floor was swept and it smelled like lemons. Y/N came out of the bedroom wearing one of his t- shirts and a pair of his old boxer shorts. The kitchen looked clean. there were no dishes in the sink, and there was a pot on the stove.
“ I washed your clothes, if you don’t mind hanging them up.” she smiled. “ Dinner’s on the stove if you’re hungry”, she brushed the hair out of her face and fiddled with the shirt she was wearing. “ I can heat it up for you, while you get cleaned up.”
“ The house is clean?” he stated.
“ Yeah, I’m sorry I didn’t finish the laundry. I had a lot of work to do today.” she wiped her tears sadly.
“ You cleaned the house.” his voice was shaking a bit. He didn’t usually cry a lot, but he had a bad day, and a stressful week. “ Why?”
“ Well the house was dirty soo..” she said. “ Are you okay?” she asked looking at him. He was hiding his face.
“ I know but yesterday I said I would clean up when I got home, because you had a lot of stuff on your to-do list today.”
“ I did... I mean I do have a lot to do, but I know that you’ve had a long a week, and I assumed it was a bad day because you didn’t text me today-” she stated.
“ I’m sorry-”
“ Hey baby, it’s okay, I’m not mad. I just know that you don’t like going to bed with the house not clean, so I cleaned it.”
He really didn’t deserve her. Her stupid smile that lit up a room, a laugh that could make anybody happy. She made him feel like she built the sun for him in a toolshed.
“ You cooked?”
“ Yeah... you’re favorite.... my love is something the matter?”
“ I just had a really crappy day.” he said.
“ It’s okay... c’mere.” she opened her arms and he melted into her. She was his sun.
“ I really don’t deserve you.” she spoke into her shoulder.
You and Kurro were currently sitting in the counselor’s office. You two haven’t talked unless it was through Kiyoko and Kenma– that was the best option for everyone. You scheduled this meeting through both of them anyways.
Kurro looked down at his hands fiddling with his rings– he always fiddled with objects if he didn’t want to answer something, “ I got drunk one night with friends and slept with a girl, “. He came out and said it with truth. That was what happened, the only thing that was iffy about the whole story was why didn’t he just say no. The counselor noticed this too, “ You said you were drunk, Kurro, but what else could have triggered you to do so? “ she pressed him and lord was she good at it.
Kurro looked around, his eyes trailed upon all of the different types of self wellness posters eyeing many things that he was seeing circling the flat surfaces of the walls. His eyes landed on the clipboard that the woman was wearing, she was clearly noting everything that he and you were saying. Then his eyes drifted to her nametag, ‘ Mrs. Yue ‘, cute name. Focus, he wasn’t here to compliment names of the teachers he was here to fix what was left of you two guy’s relationship.
“ We had just had a fight that night, “ that was what made you turn your head. That fight? The one that made you think that things were going to be over for good? This went to the root of everything. That was the night you miscarried. You had just turned 18 and Kurro was 19. It was an accidental pregnancy; you two were willing to take on the responsibility of the child and continue on with your lives. If only you two knew the things that were about to happen.
You two started getting annoyed at each other; he was trying to understand you and everything your body was going through. He stayed up late reading books, online reading parenting forums, and doing his own research about the process; to understand how to better take care of you. You felt like you were being smothered. Especially with how your mother took the announcement. She was mad– she had wanted you to attend college like the rest of the women in your family. You were, it was just going to put on hold for a while until you understood the whole parenting thing. That one night things got tough between you and Kurro. You blew up at him about smothering you and putting too much pressure on you. He was trying to get his point across to you that the only thing he was trying to make sure is that you were taken care of. The argument got so heated that you didn’t know you had stressed yourself to the point of a misscarriage until you felt warmth take over your pants.
You looked down and it was crimson blood leaking down the fabric of your pants; Kurro didn’t wait for you to say anything. He drove you to the hospital that very minute.
The doctors ruled it as a misscarriage. Stress induced; nothing couldn’t have prevented it but if you two had stopped arguing. Kurro knew that it took a toll on you. On the ride back home you were quiet as a mouse. You didn’t look nor speak to him.
It’s been weeks since the misscarriage and you haven’t even touched him– he spent nights in his bed thinking about what went wrong; did he do anything that night that he shouldn’t have done? Was he the reason why you miscarried? That was also the night Terushima had texted him.
Terushima: Heard your stress with your lady, wanna get some drinks?
Mrs. Yue makes notes on her paper, then she looks back up this time with a softened gaze towards the both of you. She then turned towards you; her eyes narrowing at you. You weren’t used to this much intense look from someone before. You had always been the person who watched someone get accused of something it was never the other way around. You turned to Kurro to ask for help, it was almost natural for your body to do so when you feel pressed. You always looked at Kurro for him to find some way to help you out of a situation. You felt him try not to look at you. He knew right there in the moment that if he were to look at you he would defend you, and take all the blame for himself.
You knew there was no way around this; even as Mrs. Yue signaled for you to speak, “ How did the misscarriage change you Ms. L/N? “, she questioned you. You looked at her and really thought about what she was asking you. How did it change you? In many ways, you stopped seeing Kurro as someone you could confide in; to you he was just a man who didn’t understand the confusion and pain about everything that went on. You didn’t have the best pregnancy with everything that happened. You were stressed until the end; you didn’t even get the chance to bond with what would have been your child.
Everything was taken from you in an instance. You wanted to be alone, and vulnerable; that couldn’t happen. You knew that Kurro felt some type of way too, but you couldn’t even muster up to think about what he was feeling. You had just lost the child, but what you didn’t know is that Kurro had felt like he lost you in that very moment also; your smile, and the way you looked at everything with love changed that same night. He tried– left food outside of your door and sent you funny memes. Nothing brought back that empty space.
“ I felt empty, “ you started. “ I felt like no one felt the stress that was put on me at that moment “, you could feel that you were about to start tearing up.
Kurro turned to you fully with his eyes studying every feature of your face, and every word that was coming out of your mouth. He cheated on this woman? The woman that felt vulnerable after something that couldn’t have been prevented. He felt so selfish in the moment; how could he? He had told people that he wanted to marry you and he did that to you.
“ I cheated back on him to let him know how I felt, “ your words were now getting angry, “ Everytime he had cheated I did it back to him, “ that’s when your voice softened. “ It hurt so bad to be cheated on during that period of my time, I felt so broken that was the only thing I knew how to do. “, you ended your sentence off.
“ That’s when it became a cycle, I'm guessing? “, Mrs. Yue spoke. You and Kurro both nodded at her; she continued to write a few more notes down on her piece of paper and then nodded.
She then smiled a soft smile. “ How about I step out of the room and give you two 30 minutes of alone time to speak one on one. There’s a lot of things that need to be said. “, with that she stood up and walked out the room; shutting the door softly behind her.
This was the first time you were alone with Kurro in a few days. His hair was still the same, but he had a little stubble on his chin. He looked tired, really tired. He looked at you then broke down.
“ I’m sorry, I'm so sorry “.
His voice cracked– raw with emotions he forgot he had.
Is extremely careful not to nudge it, grab it, or squeeze your face too tight. Almost too cautious with you. It’s a piercing not a surgery wound or a broken bone. Tells you how good you look with it. Makes sure that you clean it regularly so that it doesn’t get infected. So excited for you to change it out once it’s healed. Has already bought you new earings for it
>>> Daichi, Asahi, Kageyama, Yamaguchi, Kenma, Iwa, Akaashi, Kita, Osamu, Kiyoomi (probably gets super stressed about them)
Love the new piercing thinks you look super hot with it. But omg does this man forget about it. It does not stop him from grabbing your face or head and squeezing it on accident. To be fair he just wants kisses and is not used to you cringing away when he smooshes your face. He’s the reason why it hasn’t healed yet but when he does he’ll be messing with it all the time. Even though it’s a subconscious thing now.
