Who are you Calling "Robinette?"
It's finally here! The official release to Who Are You Calling "Robinette?" is here! I hope you all enjoy reading it. Also, thank you all for the positve responses and support. It really means a lot to me.
Gotham City, also known as the most dangerous city to ever exist in the world, but for Marrinette’s class it’s the city where they decide to leave her behind at the airport. At night. How dandy.
Now, if anybody was in her predicament they would have freaked, especially since it would have been their first time in the city. However, the thing that made this sixteen year old girl different from all the other first time abandoned foreigners in a dangerous city, was that she had done her research.
You see, months before leaving Paris with her class, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, had taken every scenario into consideration. Especially those that a conniving little sausage haired snake might have come up with. She even made a bullet journal with emergency contacts for certain situations, and places nearby to get nonprescription medicines. Not to mention she even took up a few classes of basic first aid since this is Gotham we are talking about, it’s never bad to be over prepared.
Taking out her bullet journal from her carry on, she turned to the page that listed various transportations she could take along with their phone numbers, and hours they ran. She then, settled on calling for an Uber to pick her up and take to the hotel she and her class would be staying at. Once the booking and pricing had been settled, she waited inside the airport, because, let’s be honest, if Gotham is dangerous during the day, what makes the night any different? She’s not going to risk her safety just to wait outside for her ride to arrive. Sure, she may be a hero, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to wait and/or unintentionally look for trouble when it can be avoided.
Please, she’s on vacation right now. As long as Paris in not in danger at the moment from an akuma attack, or if she sees she can help someone right then and there, she’s not going to get involved and risk being found out. Ladybug is Paris’ hero, not Gotham’s, so if she where to miraculously appear within the city that her class is at, it wouldn’t be long before they become suspicious and she possibly become compromised. That would be that last thing she needs.
It wasn’t long before her Uber driver sent her a text letting her know that they were there, and where to find them. It was easy enough, and when she found them, let’s just say the guy was pretty shocked with how young she was.
“Aren’t you a little young to be on your own at this hour, especially in a city like Gotham,” the driver asked, as he held the door open for her.
“To reassure you I will say; no, no I am not,” Marinettes responded, as she slid into the back seat of the car. Gosh, is she happy she only brought just a backpack, it kind of made this whole situation a lot more unstressful.
“Ok kid, whatever you say,” the driver said, still a umeased.
I mean, she can’t be much older than his daughter who’s on her way to graduating middle school. However, unknown to him was that she could put him on his ass in two seconds flat. Just because she’s five foot three and a half (yes, we must include the half) inches tall and looked pretty young did not mean she was a middle school child!
He tried making small talk with the Parisian Asian girl, even pointed out a few places as they drove, told her some legends of old buildings, but soon enough he started talking about their hero, the Batman. Now, Marinette has read a few stories on the web about the so called Batman and his Robins, and saw his picture from day the Justice League was formed, but to hear about him from a local was a different thing.
“Ok, kid, if you were to ask people about the Bat, they’d most likely either complain, or shiver in fear at his name, but for me, he’s a true hero. It takes guts to do what he does, and he’s doing what he can for this city, he’s protecting it. What more can we ask from him? Ever since he’s showed up, I have to say I feel better know he can take on these villains, because I’m sure as hell our police can’t. It would take them forever to take care of Mr. Freeze, Bane, even Poison Ivy! Yet, he manages to do it without any special ability,” the driver said, while carrying it out with a story of one of the fights he had witnessed from his hiding spot.
Marinette listened to his story, with fascination and respect for the hero dancing in her eyes. However, her and his enjoyment wouldn’t last long. He had slammed on the brakes, causing her to jolt forward slightly thanks to the seatbelt. The driver quickly got out of the car, and hurriedly took her out before she could ask what was wrong. As they ran, she caught the blimps of two masked figures, one in blue and black, the other decked in red, black and gold accents. They seemed to be fighting a scaled beast.
Sure enough, in all the chaos with people running and bumping into them, she and her driver got separated. Just her luck.
Marinette made she way into an alley, and quickly called Tikki out from her purse.
“Marinette, I thought you said we weren’t going to use the Miraculous at all during the trip,” Tikki said.
“I know what I said Tikki, but they look like they need help. Not to mention, that if we can minimize the damage just a bit, then it’s worth it.”
Tikki, still unsure about the situation, agreed. She just hoped nothing bad would happen to her holder. Mainly because these villains were nothing like the ones in Paris.
With quick flash of pink Ladybug threw out her yoyo, and began to swing in the direction of the fight. When she got there she witnessed the boy in red, black, and gold be yeeted (or is it yoted) through a store window. The one still standing was getting ready to attack, when Ladybug had just threw her yoyo out once more, hitting the crocodile man at the back of his head. It got his attention, and the other boys’ too, but it also drew his irritation towards her. This was possibly the only scenario in her bullet Journal she hadn’t planned for.
Oh well. What’s life without a little bit of surprises?
“Hey,” she called out, “I don’t think it was very nice to destroy someone’s business. Why don’t you fight someone who can at least keep the damage to a minimum?”
With that said, she down from the building she was on and collided with her feet to his chest sending a good 20 ft back. The two boys, flocked her sides. She could sense the questions hanging in the air, but right now they got a beast to take down. Questions can wait till later.
With that the three of them began their attack on Killer Croc.
Killer Croc sung his tail, colliding it with Marinette's stomach. She felt the wind get knocked out of her body as flew backward colliding into one of the building's brick walls. She waited for her vision to clear enough to fight the beast, but she knew this fight was going nowhere fast.
From where she was, she witnessed as the two males practically get the lights knocked out of them. She couldn't take it anymore. Using the wall to herself, Marinette called upon her lucky charm.
Now if the boys weren't so focused on the fight they would have noticed the flash of pink and the polka dotted camera falling into her hands. Great, what was she supposed to do with that?
She observed her surroundings, taking note of anything that might be of use, but the only thing that was being spotted was Killer Croc himself. Then it finally hit her.
Running head first into the fight she to take pictures of Killer Croc while dodging his uncalculated attacks. This was due to the bright flashes that the camera provided. It blinded the crocodile man and it allowed the trio to get in some really good hits.
Killer Croc stumbled backwards covering his eyes as he waited for the white spots to disappear from his vision. It was only when he uncovered eyes did he notice the three heros infront of him.
"Smile for the camera," Marinette said, as she took the picture of Red Robin and Nightwing delivering the final blow.
With Killer Croc down for the count the boys wasted no time tying him up.
"So kid what's your name," asked Nightwing, as he finished the last knot.
Now Marinette would have answered but she still had her lucky charm to cast. Not to mention the beeping from her earrings kept reminding her of her limited time.
"Look, I would love to stay and chat, but I'm in a bit of a hurry." With that she cast her lucky charm, and left back to the alley where she came from while the boys awestruck by the damage being reversed.
"How'd you-," the question was left unfinished, because when they turned around the girl in red was gone.
"Dibs on not telling Batman," Dick said, as he ignored Red Robin's dismayed shout as he took off.
"Great. Just great," Red Robin muttered, now alone with an overgrown crocodile man.
Meanwhile, with Marinette; she landed gracefully in the alley she once hid in and transformed back to normal. Tikki fell into her her warm hands exhausted, to which our pigtailed hero gave her a small cookie that she always carried around in her purse.
"Kid! Kid," a shout came from the distance.
She knew that voice. Turning to the direction of where the voice came from, she saw her driver in the middle of the road. He looked frantic and worried, almost like he had lost something important to him.
Marinette's driver turned around to where her voice came from. When his eyes met hers, it was like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders.
"Oh kid, you're alright," he said happily.
He was so happy that he even fell to his knees, and kept muttering all kinds of thanks to God.
"Are you ok, mister," Marinette asked, as she approached the man. She even went as far as to place a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Yeah kid. Just relieved. Sorry that you were left alone during that chaos."
Marinette simply forgave him saying that it was inevitable. That he did his best to keep her safe.
He took a moment to compose himself. When he was ready he got up and told her they should probably head back to the car. Mostly to just get what was left of their stuff, as the car would most likely be destroyed.
"Now kid, get whatever you are able to grab, just don't expect everything to be salvaged," he said, and was about to go on about what kind of damage that she should expect, but when they arrived, there was no evidence of a fight at all. The only thing that indicated that there was one, was Killer Croc being escorted into an indestructible truck, and Red Robin giving his statement.
To say he was confused was an understatement. Though, at least his car is ok.
Holding the door open for Marinette the second time that night, he said, "When we get to your destination don't worry about paying. Tonight's ride is on me."
When they arrived at the hotel, he waited there until he saw she was safely in the building before driving off.
Inside, Marinette wasted no time with the lavish decorum. Instead, she made her way to the front desk informing them of her identity, and why she was there. Even presented her school ID for proof of who she was. To say the lady at the front desk was appalled at the fact her class left her at the airport was an understatement. What kind of teacher does not notice that they were missing a student, in Gotham nonetheless? They quickly gave her the room card, that the teacher gave back to them saying, "it seems we have one too many."
Seriously, what kind of teacher is this?
When Marinette walked away, the Lady called over the bellboys and security.
"I want you all to keep an eye on a girl. She's with the french class that won the trip. If you see her by herself or that her class has left without her, kindly escort her to me," she said.
"Yes, manager Kim," they responded.
You can be sure as hell, that Mr. Wayne would be hearing about this incident.
Once inside her room, Marinette dropped her carry on onto the floor, and kick her flats off. She all but threw herself onto the bed. It had been such a long day day.
Tikki, having flown out of the purse as soon as they entered the room, pulled the throw blanket onto her holder, and then made herself comfortable on the bed. However, before she fell asleep, she silently promised her holder that she would make sure things would be very different after the trip.
