so apparently, per the x factor audition contract (as read by katie w on live), contestants literally aren’t allowed to say anything bad about the show, the staff, or each other in perpetuity.

like forever. legally.

meaning they could never say “niall is a dirty rat who fucked us over” even if it was true.

so keep that in mind when you’re analyzing quotes. the baseline expectation is: no trash talk.

now liam essentially saying “i hate him for a lot of reasons but i love him” about zayn? borderline. legally gray. we were all waiting for simon cowell to drop from the ceiling with a cease and desist.

but louis saying—unprompted—“still good friends with him, still very very proud of him, taking over the world” about harry?

he didn’t have to say any of that. he could’ve hit us with the vague “we don’t talk much but i wish him the best” industry line. or a polite “yeah, i still know him, we were in a band together. next question.”

but no. proud of him. good friends. world domination.

anyway. the contract might keep them from spilling drama.

but it doesn’t force compliments.
