I made a lavender lemon roll cake for the bbu Faraday art contest!
More info and recipe below the cut:)
I modified a recipe I found pretty heavily but it turned out really good! In universe it would be made with this flower, faradus. It's named after Faraday and is to them what roses are to us today!
The recipe I based it off of a recipe I found on YouTube by preppy kitchen called "amazing Swiss roll cake recipe"
Rich and tender, this Swiss Roll features a fluffy and light chocolate sponge cake filled with whipped cream and then coated in ganache.
**Ingredients:** (sorry it's all imperial)
Cake:
-4 eggs, separated and at room temperature
-150 grams granulated sugar, split into 100 and 50
-¼ cup vegetable oil
-2 teaspoons vanilla extract
-¼ teaspoon salt
-½ cup all purpose flour
-⅓ cup lavender simple syrup
-½ teaspoon baking powder
Filling:
-1½ cups heavy whipping cream
- 30 grams powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract
-½ a lemon of zest
Lavender simple syrup:
-¾ cup of water
-127 grams of sugar
-2 tablespoons of dried lavender
Lavender simple syrup:
1. In a small pot, bring water to a simmer and add sugar and lavender.
2. Dissolve sugar and remove from heat, covering and letting steep for 10 minutes.
3. Strain into a container and discard lavender flowers
Key differences:
-Instead of cocoa powder in the cake batter, I added lavender simple syrup
-Instead of vanilla extract in the whipped cream I used lemon extract as well as lemon zest (and gelatin for stability but that's just a teaspoon plus a tablespoon of warm water for every cup of cream. Mix them beforehand and let them bloom *slightly*)
-Instead of cocoa powder on the towel I used powdered sugar
-Instead of a ganache on top I sifted powdered sugar on top
I love Monopoly and I love Yankee Candles, I had no idea this existed, but I am definitely buying one at some point!!! My 5 FAVORITE candles from Yankee are on here!! Lemon Lavender, Clean Cotton, Vanilla Lime, Sun and Sand, and Midsummer Night!!! I also love the Vanilla Cupcake!
