From kissing to having sex

In most varieties of French, baiser is a vulgar word for having intercourse. Its original meaning is 'to kiss'. This became a euphemism for having sex. Curiously, the noun un baiser still just means 'a kiss'. Baiser is related to Spanish besar, Portuguese beijar and many more Romance words. The infographic shows a selection.

That English I, German ich, and Dutch and Frisian ik are cognates comes as no surprise. But they are related to French je, Spanish yo, Italian io, and Portuguese eu as well. All these pronouns come from Proto-Indo-European. Here you can see how they are related.
