if you feel awkward about drawing gore or body horror, maybe you could draw gore but #silly instead. like pastel gore or candy gore. or maybe gore like a candy gore but instead of being pastel and candy-like it's just normal non-candy non-dessert food. like celery bones and ranch dressing blood and organs that are just breaded fried chicken or something. or video game silliness switch type gore like glitter and flowers and rainbows or just random stuff falling out
these are some ideas i have also considered myself, as i also feel a little uncomfortable drawing gore (it doesn't help that i'm uncomfortable looking up references as well) wnajqkwjwnekskwkenskskd
yeah we're very bad with gore but love candy gore. it's so pretty. and also tonight i described Rescue as "RubyQuest but with Lapfox album art aesthetic" (furry gore and body horror but stylized and simplified with bright colors) and that's really something i want to actually, like, do stuff with bc its Ideal. like uhhh one of my fav Lapfox/Halley Labs album covers is The Recovery Of The Absolute Artifact, which is "cute furry character sliced into pieces and bleeding neon goo but she's, like, chill about it". shes doing peace signs and everything
it's been hard to get ourselves to even draw that, though, because of weird internalized bullshit where we get worried about hypothetical "what if we make people uncomfortable". bc despite being candy gore enjoyers, we don't post any of it or even really talk about it - we worry a lot about squicking people out, or friends having to ""deal with it"", which is. nonsense. and also a lot of our friends now are very enthusiastic about gore and have been encouraging us to fuck around and find out. plus it feels weird to have spent so many years working on something and not talking about a core aspect of it, which is "these guys are various levels of immortal and therefore survive things they really, REALLY shouldnt".
(on the other hand, there's a couple backstory characters that die of more "mundane" means, and somehow that is upsetting for us to think about for too long. Zyd being vivisected while awake? fucked up, but it's not like she can feel pain at that point and it's mostly to illustrate how she's treated by people she used to trust, and also drawing it would be cool as hell. someone dying because of having a bad reaction to the sci-fi immortality serum being tested on them? fucked up and weevil.)
fun fact: Sol's original artwork from when he was sold as an adoptable has gummy worm guts. i haven't drawn it bc i like drawing blood more than organs but that's still a thing. also i think my bones are made of celery and that's why i have every problem
