Some thoughts on Olive Specter
Disclaimer : this post ended up being quite long so you don't have to read it all, it won't really affect the story much. I just wanted to share my headcanon 😊
I want to retcon my idea that she would have a SimTube channel. After playing with her for a few days I think she would be too much of a technophobe for that. She rolled a fear to write an email lol. Plus her whole storyline is that she refuses to let go of the past with her thirst for revenge, so I don't think she'd be into modern technologies.
I initially came up with that as an attempt to tie in her job as Professional Party Guest with the rest of the story, but I have a much better idea!
The more I think about Olive being well-versed in voodoo, the more it makes sense to me. Voodoo in itself does not have to be evil, but it can be used to do bad things. Some believe that it can be used to indirectly torment and kill people. And the death will often feel very sudden, unexplained or just the result of very bad luck.
Tell me that doesn't fit Olive's situation perfectly.
As for her job, it's not directly tied to voodoo, but I think she could be a sort of professional storyteller. Let me explain. As I mentioned before, I am from the Caribbean, and in my culture when someone dies, the family will hold a party the night before the funeral so that people can come "watch over" the body. And during this party they would hire a storyteller who will spend the night cracking jokes and telling folkloric tales with music. I know it sounds weird from an outside perspective, but it's the tradition. The party is not supposed to be sad, and people also tend to drink a lot of alcohol during these. Oh and all the tales involve spirits or other supernatural elements.
THAT would be the perfect job for Olive Specter. In fact it fits her so well, I wonder with I didn't think about it before. 🤯 She would be a mix of a professional storyteller/voodoo master.
That also fits well with my storyline of Strangetown being a more magical/mystical town until it was taken over by the military. That would make Olive the last representative of her culture, and thus people hire her as a form of entertainment rather than a pure traditional practice. Which also fuels her rage against the military.
Sorry for the long rant, I just really like this theory. All the elements fit together so well!
I'm also very happy to incorporate some of my culture into this uberhood. I really love TS2 but the premade hoods do suffer from a lack of cultural diversity. Even if there are darker skin Sims they often have light colored eyes and/or hair so it doesn't feel very genuine.
Now it kinda makes me sad that Ophelia isn't interested in voodoo stuff. Maybe the ghosts are mad at her for abandoning the family traditions 😅
The Specter - remix
Who is buried in Olive Specter's garden? Will the mysterious, aging outcast leave her fortune to her niece Ophelia, or, as rumored, to an unnamed heir?
25 and 23 for ask game!
25. perfume/body spray or lotion?
Errr, neither, I guess? Since the spousal person and I got so much into Korean TV shows I have picked up a few face washes and masks on our trips to the Asian grocery store, but I haven't started using any whole body things as of yet.
23. how do you feel about chilly weather?
I miss it. It's a vague memory of actually deep snow when I was a kid, deep enough to make a big mound of it that I would then slide down on my skates. It's seeing the long sleeves shirts in my closet that I haven't worn in years and knowing I'll probably never wear them again. It's the two coats that have been on the back of my computer chair for years, and maybe only taken off the chair and put on a couple of times.
It's beautiful and good and I love it and I miss it so much, but it's never coming back.
wishing you happy holidays!! i hope you have a great rest of the year and next year!!
Thank you so much and happy holidays to you too!
11 and 12!
11. A genre you just can’t stand
Okay so I really had to think about my answer to 11! I feel like I'm pretty much okay with every (common) genre, but how I feel about a movie depends on how it's directed. Like recently, I tried to watch the movie Shame thinking maybe I could get some good Pietro inspiration from it. The film's got 79% on rotten tomatoes, Steve McQueen is the director and I liked Widows and 12 Years A Slave. But I found that the movie was way too quiet and too introspective. That, complete with this nearly 5 minute scene...

Had me like, "yeah I can't complete this. I just cant." Great visuals though.
12. Subtitles or no subtitles? I ALWAYS use subtitles! I feel like I can't hear without them lmao
