California Democrat Senator Scott Weiner just voted down a bill to ban registered sex offenders from office He calls them "minor crimes".
Scott Weiner has a history of legislation around sex offender issues, including efforts to adjust registration requirements for certain cases. This has drawn righteous and strong criticism from opponents who see it as lenient on offenders.
This video accurately highlights the vote and his stated rationale. Whether you view "minor crimes" framing as reasonable or outrageous is a separate political/moral question — the factual events check out.
As chair of the Senate Elections Committee, Weiner helped block AB 2753 (authored by Asm. Esmeralda Soria). The bill would have barred registered sex offenders from running for or holding public office, including local and state positions.
The committee killed the bill in a close vote after Wiener opposed the broad scope. He argued for narrowing it significantly — e.g., applying only to Tier 3 (lifetime registry) offenders — and described the registry as containing a "massive array" of offenses, some of which he characterized as relatively "minor crimes" or "flaws." He was concerned about over-breadth.
Registered sex offenders can still run for public office in California thanks to Senator Scott Weiner and the California Democrats.
Now, do you understand WHY there are there threads on my blog stating that these Satanic and evil Democrats want to make it LEGAL to have sex with children? Is my message getting through?!
