received an advanced reader copy of The Accomplice from Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine Books via NetGalley, in return for my honest opinion. The Accomplice by Lisa Lutz is a story about friendship, secrets and staying true to oneself. Luna Grey is socially awkward, has few friends and always has her guard up. Owen Mann is someone that people are drawn to but is always looking for something more than what he has. Owen and Luna strike up a friendship in college and are soon inseparable. Years later they are both married and live within walking distance of each other. Both Luna and Owen are in struggling marriages due to the secrets they keep. When Luna discovers Owen’s wife has been murdered, tragedies from both Luna and Owen’s pasts will be revealed and their friendship will be put to the test. This was an excellent story, with a great pace that reads like a mutual friend is catching you up on what’s been happening in Luna and Owen’s lives. Slump No More!
I hit a bit of a “blah” patch with my reading toward the end of August. Nothing was really grabbing my attention, and I really slowed down on a lot of my reading. And then Labor Day arrived----my 4-day holiday with me and my books and it was GLORIOUS! So excited when I get to share some good ones, and all three of these are definitely worth sharing!
The Accomplice by Lisa Lutz
Owen and Luna are the very best of friends, stemming back to their university days. Now, years later when Owen’s wife get’s shot, Luna is right there to help Owen through the nightmare…just like she was there for him when his girlfriend mysteriously died 10 years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed this, especially the male/female friendship without the usual sexual undertones. This book kept me guessing all the way to the end. I’m definitely a fan!

The Resting Place by Camilla Sten
Eleanor has face blindness---the inability to recognize faces, no matter how many times she’s seen them. When her grandmother is murdered and Eleanor finds out she’s inherited a mansion/farm/land that she’s never known about, she starts on a journey to learn more about her family’s secrets than she could’ve ever dreamed. Since I really enjoyed The Lost Village by the same author, it was a no-brainer to read this one as well, and it did not disappoint! Very different from a lot of the suspense books I’ve been reading of late. I recommend!

Unmissing by Minka Kent
When Lydia shows up at her husband’s doorstep after having been missing for 10 years (and declared dead during that time), it’s a true understatement to say some things have changed. Her husband has remarried, has kids, and is doing extremely well financially. But when we find out where Lydia’s been all this time and why, that’s where to true twist comes in. Quite the page-turner, with an extra twist at the end that I never saw coming!
