My fourth grade teacher pulled me to the side when I was acting like the class clown one day and taught me about this concept called a "glass ceiling." She piqued my curiosity and I asked her why would she mention such a thing. My teacher said, "One day, you're going to be a young black woman and the world is going to tell you no every chance they get. What are you going to do then?" Being the smart ass that I was, I responded: "I'll climb the goddamn walls and find a window to make it to the roof." She yanked me, trying to hide her smile and pushed me back into the classroom and told me that there was still hope for me even after I insulted her. Thank you for being everything that I didn't know I needed. I am climbing walls without permission and jumping on roofs because of you. She's probably one of the most memorable teachers that I ever had.
