Somehow I completely missed the underlined portion of this conversation until just now 😭😭😭 he’s so funny when exactly was he “trying out” a middle name in conversation with Jon sksjdkcjmskxkskdmcjwjx 😭😭😭😭

Martin is such a good foil to Jon in different ways throughout the whole show, but I'm particularly enjoying the way they contrast in these early episodes of s5

Specifically, the way Martin continues to be so... normal? In spite of everything.

For example, the way he insisted on bringing the maps and tea, and mocked what he anticipated Jon's flowery ominous response would be

The way he just falls into saying things a normal person would say if the world was normal, even if it isn't exactly true, like in the intro to 163

Also, the way he slipped so easily into a casual friendly banter with Helen in 164, which would not have sounded at all out of place at an office Christmas party pre-apocalypse

And I know in the latter example he's probably being strategic -better to have allies than enemies and all that. And there's probably an element of his time with the lonely in the way he's interacted with everyone/thing this season so far... (which I'll probably have some thoughts on once I get a little further into the series)

But- I still think there’s an aspect here of Martin "Not big on change" Blackwood being this sort of living relic of the way the world once was. Subconsciously or consciously upholding the customs and patterns it once followed.

Meanwhile Jon serves an opposite purpose as the “post apocalyptic google” exposition machine.

He knows exactly how different this new world is, and doesn’t see a point in acting like it’s not.

and it just works so well especially in these first few episodes where Jon and Martin are our only real examples of how people not trapped in nightmares are coping with the world post change.

It's not only grounding for Jon as a character, but also for our journey though this world as a whole.

-Martin doesn't have a middle name

-Basira's alive and well and hunting Daisy

-Melanie and Georgie are somewhere in the Eyepocalypse equivalent of London but Jon can't properly see them

-Elias is in the Panopticon

-Annabelle was calling Martin on the spooky phone before, Jon can't see her at all

-Jon tried to Know how to end the Eyepocalypse but it's too much intense information for him to properly process

-HELEN!!!!

-the Distortion can easily track anyone who's been through it before

-ouuuuuh Helen,,,,, girl's out here blaming Jon for All This

-and then when Jon says that she could have helped prevent All This she goes 'yeah but by that logic Georgie and Melanie are equally guilty'

-Jon can't properly travel through the Distortion anymore because he's too powerful

The Magnus Archives Doodles, MAG 161 - 164

SEASON 5 BABY!!! I’ve finally made it!!

I loved hearing all the old tapes in MAG 161 and 162, God it was also good to hear Sasha’s (and Tim’s) voices again, I missed her so much. There were also so many funny and cute conversations happening in all these episodes that I can’t seem to decide which one is my favourite. Also Helen’s here!! Since MAG 157 I’ve just been itching to draw her again, I’m so happy with her design and she’s so fun to draw <3

So I know the whole disease thing at the beginning was just a metaphor for xenophobia, but I honestly couldn't help but think of Covid while listening to that. Masks everywhere so you couldn't see anyone's faces, people distrusting each other and so ready to throw each other under the bus if it meant bettering themselves, how regular people had to obey the rules but the higher ups didn't. Made me uncomfortable.

So Basira's after Daisy now to keep her promise. Ironic that Daisy is tied to the Hunt and now someone's hunting her. These two are going to have a confrontation eventually and I feel like it's not going to be pretty.

Jon and Martin are so freaking funny. Jon being so offended that Martin asked "What's my middle name" when he doesn't have one and Jon calling himself a "self-apocalyptic Google." And then Helen shows up being the ultimate JonMartin shipper, too funny. Cherry on top was Jon going "I've never been adorable" and Martin quickly going "Okay, not true." These two are so cute, agh, I love them.
