I made a Magnus archives themed denim jacket!

This took me about 13 ish hours over a week! It’s all acrylic paint with a fabric medium!

MAG001 MINI-REVIEW
I didn't expect that with the first episode this series would be able to transmit such intense fear and terror to me.
The idea of an Anglerfish is quite clever, imagining a creature that takes advantage of a human appearance to hunt its victims by asking them for a cigarette, makes me think that perhaps the creature be smarter than might initially appear
Favorite lines of the episode:
"I’ve managed to secure the services of two researchers to assist me. Well, technically three, but I don’t count Martin as he’s unlikely to contribute anything but delays"
Jonathan Sims is so funny, and I'm sure he'll grow fond of Martin. I've set my words in stone, and if it doesn't work out, I'll be pissed.
“Can I have a cigarette?”
Literally the line that represents the episode
“check out this drunk creeper lol”
IT'S SO FUNNY HOW JONATHAN SAYS IT
I loved the first episode, i can say that this is gonna be a great audiodrama
We'll see if I paint something for every episode some day. Got kinda proud of the MAG2 painting, so decided to just publish all of these that I have so far.
The connectivity of the Anglerfish is insane. My favorite stuff in a lot of series is the connectivity and theorizing. I was big into FNAF theories back in the day and TMA scratches the same itch along with the mythology/theology itch. The pantheon system is so cool! Animism with an active "is it monotheism or polytheism" argument. And the Christianity references, beautiful, delicious.
I like the wood grain. I got the perspective on the coffin so nicely too. I surprised myself with the detail considering all these are A5/postcard size, but painting with acrylic paints is so luch fun. The white is silver, like shiny irl btw. With the exception of the steam from the mug and the Anglerfish outlines, those are just white. But the chains, lock, "DO NOT OPEN" text, the speech bubble, all silver. Can't get the effect on camera properly.
And MAG11 cause it's probably my favorite season 1 episode. Nice nods to shamanism and prophetic dreams. And lore. And Oliver Banks is amazing, I like his vibes. Like to the point of maybe being my favorite individual character, ignoring ships. And headcanoning him aroace, never gonna ship him with anyone.
wait so i haven’t seen anyone talk about this but. can we appreciate the parallels between the magnus archives and the magnus protocol when it comes to filing, especially as mentioned in their respective pilot episodes? the first solid 5 minutes of MAG1 is john archivist straight up complaining about how shitty of a job the previous archivist apparently did and how messy everything is, how it’s gonna take years to put some mild order to the whole thing. and then half of First Shift is Alice explaining sam the meticulous but dreadingly boring filing system there’s set up and that they cannot for the life of them care about a smidge. MY THEORY is that jon was so UTTERLY TRAUMATIZED by those thousands of misfiled statements his soul haunts the computers in TMP as a ghost making sure not one of them is misplaced, lost, or unlabeled. in this essay i will
idk stupid angler fish meme
MAG 1 Angler Fish
It's been sitting in my folder unfinished for the past 5 months, and I've been telling myself I'll fix it properly, as if, so anyway here is a rough sketch for ep one :P
[Image ID: Digital drawing of Jonathan Sims reading a statement while pressing a button on a tape recorder. The text says "My name is Jonathan Sims." Behind Jon, in the background, there is a view of a dark alleyway. On the left, there is a man looking down the alleyway. At the end of it, there is a figure slightly levitating above the ground. Behind the figure, a pair of eyes glows in the dark. End ID]
Just got asked if I had a cigarette from someone in this totally not creepy stairway in the ground. Would give them one but they won't come up, it's probably nothing right?
MAG1 - Anglerfish, quotes and small review
"Test… Test… Test… 1, 2, 3… Right."
Ok, I'll start from the beginning. I'm relistening and I will comment on everything that comes to my mind. This is a shitpost, as I happen to have a chronic illness called "I can't take anything seriously", so read at your own risk. You will probably find a lot of memes and references.
This will be spoiler-ish, probably. I personally believe that spoilers without context are no spoiler due to your lack of understanding. So, I can't promise posts with no spoilers, but I can at least try.
This is also me taking notes to write a fix-it fanfic, or as I've seen in another post, "a statement mend".
Now, favourites quotes:
"(...) This isn’t necessarily a problem – modern filing and indexing systems are a real wonder, and all it would need is a half-decent archivist to keep it in order. Gertrude Robinson was apparently not that archivist." - Jon Sims, March 23th 2016
This quote is funny AF tbh. This guy talks like a victorian man tormented by the shadows of his past and I'm here for it. He's 29, and he talks like Scrooge or sth like that. Why tho
"(...) The caption was 'check out this drunk creeper L-O-L' " - Evidently, also said by Jon Jonathan Jarchivist Sims, Head Autistic of The Magnus Institute, London.
Christ Jon, why did you read it like that? XD Will it kill ya to say "lol" like everybody else? (the answer is probably a yes, he is like that)
Small review, by an oversharer:
My diagnosis is that he needs a raise. I know it's his first day on the job blah blah blah, he needs a raise. He just inherited a mess! Give him sth nice!
Seems like a decent guy, bit strict but he's charming in the way a rock is charming I guess. As a protagonist you can sense potential here, dude is interesting, intelligent and a theatre kid, given by how he narrates. Grumpy academic men are always cool.
As a first episode it is flawless, it sets the vibe, the tone, presents you the main character and it leaves you longing for more. Which it's fine because, you know, there are 200 episodes.
Headcanons:
Jon is autistic. Source: me
General overview:
Vibe: immaculate, I want to visit the Archives
Horror: spooky AF
Audio: gotta love the music and effects, pretty ASMR in general
Humour: there are no jokes per se, but Jon it's hella funny even if it's not on purpose and he just talks like that
Score: 10/10
