Each year on July 18, communities large and small around the planet set aside time to recognise Nelson Mandela International Day, the anniversary of the birth of one of the twentieth century's most enduring advocates for peace and human rights.
The United Nations formally adopted the occasion in 2009 not simply to honour Mandela's long battle against apartheid, but to remind everyone that meaningful change begins whenever ordinary people spend 67 minutes lending a hand to someone else.
