Usopp, to Sanji: Win this for Nami and Robin!
Sanji, running into battle: FOR NAMI AND ROBIIIN!!!
Blackbeard, to Burgess: Win this because I told you to!
Burgess, running into battle: BECAUSE YOU TOLD ME TOOO!!!
Ace could barely remember the last time he was cold.
It had to have been…before three years ago. When he still needed coats and cloaks, mittens for hands calloused from years of boyhood, playing pretend with his beloved little brother. They would smack each other with wooden swords, laughing and chasing each other through the woods and across the seashore, toes digging into the sun-baked sand. Two boys who dreamed of freedom…
For three years, three perfect years, he saw that dream. No one warned him that freedom was a hard and heavy burden. Freedom did not mean free from responsibility, as he learned in the months following the formation of his crew. But those were memories he would drown himself in later.
If there was a later to drown in.
Darkness was cold. Teech left him wrapped in it, surrounded by the icy grip of his powers as they sailed. The man never slept—Ace learned that shortly after meeting him. It was unnerving.
For two and a half years, Ace knew only a warmth that rivaled the light of the sun. It felt marginally better than those summer days he and Luffy spent playing on the beach. Only dwarfed by the warmth that swallowed his chest and crawled up his throat when he saw Luffy’s brilliant and bright smile. What he wouldn’t give for thet smkle right now.
No, Ace had forgotten what it was like to be cold, he realized as he now shivered, huddled into the tightest ball he had ever been in, even as a child. Ace forgot a lot of things. The cold, how it felt to break bones, what it looked like when he bled, fear.
All of it came rushing at him in his fight with Teech, like a tidal wave. It crashed into him hard and fast and suffocating and now he laid there in the aftermath. Ruined and wrecked, like the cities the ocean claims. He didn’t feel like himself in the moment.
Moment? Hours. Days. However long it had been since his miserable fight.
“Finally look like the child you are, Commander.” Teech’s voice burned through the darkness, shredding the sunken silence that left Ace with his own thoughts. “Never pictured you as a sore loser.”
His laughter rang out, echoing in the shadows. Amplified by the nothingness he was surrounded by. Ace sneered, shifting to raise up on his knees. He couldn’t just lay there feeling sorry for himself. Miserable and whining, when this bastard had spat in Pops’s generosity, and threatened Luffy.
Luffy…
It was strange how the thought of his brother’s name resonated with the beating of his heart; a drum-like rhythm that inspired him to fight on. It couldn’t end like this; he couldn’t let it end like this. What would happen to Luffy if he died?
Desperation didn’t feel good, but he didn’t know how else to describe the way he contorted his body to try and get his hands in front of him instead of behind him. He was too big, too bulky, to do it easily. Never thought he’d ever say that. Teech’s laughter told him the bastard could see through the darkness, making a different, sick and twisted feeling crawl around in his gut. Just as foreign as desperation.
Humiliation. Not just embarrassment. He’d been embarrassed plenty of times. This was different, this was deeper.
“What do you think you’re going to do?” Teech taunted him. Ace sneered but bit his tongue to keep from retorting.
Finally, he managed to slide his hands under his feet. He had to bend so far, stretching so hard that his arms and back burned. He wished they actually burned, at least then every move he made wouldn’t feel like needles pricking his skin.
That was just the first step, unfortunately. Darkness was cold, empty, but also an oppressive weight that made standing difficult. With no choice but to crawl, his fingers dug into the shadowy smoke under his body as he dragged himself further and further. Every move was punctuated by the sound of rattling chains, echoed by Teech’s sick and booming laughter.
Thatch would never have done what Teech did with this fruit. Then again, it didn’t suit Thatch, either. He couldn’t picture him with it. Would it have corrupted Thatch, or was Teech always a disgusting, evil monster? Greedy and selfish, power hungry…
He couldn’t be. Ace couldn’t believe that Pops would accept someone like Teech if he had always been this way. Or maybe Teech pulled the wool over their eyes or something—
“Would you look at that?” Teech’s voice cut through his thoughts as his shadows slowly started to dissipate. Ace blinked and squeezed his eyes shut at the brightness of the brig, even if it really wasn’t all that bright. “We made it.”
Made it? Before Ace had a chance to ask, Teech stood up and lumbered over to him. Even if they were standing, Teech towered over him. Looming, like some imposing tower with broken windows that stood despite time trying to tear it down.
One of his meaty hands wrapped around Ace’s bicep, his fingers curling around the initials marked into his skin for his family, eclipsing them from view. His eyes narrowed.
Teech dragged Ace up on deck and for the first time in too long, the light of the sun bathed him in warmth he found himself wanting to chase. It was bright, too bright, and it hurt his eyes after the blinding darkness. He didn’t care—he was in the warmth of the sun and it revived his aching muscles at last. He didn’t even realize where they were as he was dragged into the docks.
Somebody explain to me why Blackbeard wants to take Hancock's power. The point of her devil fruit is that she can petrify people who find her attractive, which seems to be everyone but ace king Luffy... But if it were Blackbeard with the devil fruit, the powers would be useless. That anthropomorphic mass of mud is the single most disgusting, puke-inducing character in all of one piece
Author’s note: so I finally started college, so requests will be slower than normal.
“Louder! It ain’t loud enough for us!!” At the command of Blackbeard, nobody ignored him. A feast had been thrown after a successful town raid. The town stood no chance against the might of your crew mates and your captain. There had been a great deal of burning and slaughtering, but you knew what you signed up for when you joined the crew of a Yonko. Just the strongest of men could join his crew, and you fit right in.
Only an hour ago the town had been filled with panicked screams and the cackling laughter of your crew, while now only the latter remained. Cobblestone streets ran red with blood and wooden rooves burned hot. There was hardly a door left that hadn’t been torn off its hinges, and a chest had been filled with all the valuable plundered from people’s homes. It was amazing how brutally efficient the Blackbeard Pirates were at ruining innocent lives for their own gain...
How joyful everyone looked, how much energy there was between the crew, even if it was for the wrong reason. How you wanted to dance with Blackbeard himself, even though you were a man roughly half his size. All these things and more swirled around your head like a hurricane wind. As you saw him approaching you with a smile on his face, that last fact became all the more apparent. “Is... something the matter, Commodore Teech?” You asked nervously.
“You’re not dancing. That’s the problem.” He cackles with laughter after the fact. “All my other men are drinking, eating and dancing, and all you’re doing is sitting on your ass. What’s the deal with that?” You look away, a little embarrassed. “Well, I don’t really know how to, and I don’t want to look foolish in front of the crew...”
Blackbeard cackles loudly at this. “Then get up on your feet and I’ll show you what you gotta do! Feel lucky, your captain is devoting time to you! Be glad to be in the presence of one of the strongest men in the world!” You gulp, your legs shaking wildly. You were never the most coordinated fellow, so any artful movement was foreign to you. Teech drags you to your feet and pulls you to the middle of the makeshift dancing floor. “C’mon, move it like you mean it!” He guides your arms this way and that to get you started. You had never been a dancer yourself, so this just feels awkward to you.
You’d never say this aloud, but his dancing was actually rather awful. More stomping side to side and swinging his arms around. But it did give you confidence that the attention wouldn’t be on you and you could dance however you were able. But soon, your crew mates began to clap in time, as much as they could for his dancing, and cheered him on. Hooting and hollering, they begin to chant for you as well, making you a little bit nervous. You shouldn’t be nervous though, being in a primarily male crew means that any mistake you make will just be laughed off.
To try and get rid of some of the pressure, you closed your eyes and just started moving however you wanted. Eventually it became a few movements you enjoyed doing and felt were good for the song. The cheering increased, and you couldn’t help but open an eye to peek at the crowd’s reactions. They were cheering for you, not your captain. It made you feel exhilarated, alive. Your could feel your heart swell in your chest, as your respect and love for your captain grew more and more.
But like all things, the song came to an end. You gave a bow and went back to your seat to one last round of rigorous applause. This was all the excitement your heart could handle for tonight, but next time you’d be happy to give an encore. From the look Blackbeard gave you, it would seem he was looking forward to that.
