Mauritius Gray Parrot

-or otherwise known as the Thirioux's Grey Parrot, is an extinct parrot endemic to the Mascarene Islands of Mauritius and Réunion. Other then its size, its bones were very similar to other Mascarene parrots. Writing of this parakeet from the 17th and 18th century describe it as a grey parakeet with grey feathers, and a long tail that is larger then other Psittacula (who are usually green). They were described as easy to hunt, as the capture of one bird would cause it to cry for its whole flock. They were also considered pests. A combination of these two facts caused it to be hunted to extinction. Deforestation also would have contributed to their extinction. They were likely extinct by 1730 on Réunion and 1760 on Mauritius

Water, water, water and more water. And beautiful people, endless smiles, great food and an unmatched island vibe here on #Rodrigues. It is #Day2 for me at #expafrica2019, but it feels like I've been on the island for at least a week with all the adventures I've experienced in the past 48hrs 😲🙌🏻 Today was Registration for the 240x @expafrica athletes, with a 320km course - involving multiple disciplines and at least 3x days of non-stop racing along this remote and very rugged #mascarene island. Once I managed to escape the frenetic and colourful vibe, it was straight back into the jade Indian Ocean. After the caves, tortoises and abseils of yesterday, it was time to experience @rodriguesisland's best #snorkeling spot. A sneaky swim off a dramatic rocky point gets you to the outer reef, and all of a sudden everything gets all aquamarine. This ocean pool is known as the #Aquarium, and hundreds of fish flash around the plate coral outcrops as you fin down into their #bigblue world. Another key outdoor activity is the incredible #kiteboarding on offer here. Wind freaks from around the globe pull into #AnseMarouk to skim across the waves, and whirl against the clouds. La Rétrospective de La Réunion que l’on peut lire sous la plume de Marius et Ary Leblond pour l’exposition Coloniale de 1931, « révèle le rôle que (notre) île a eu comme escale de la conquête de l’Inde et foyer de la colonisation de Madagascar » et sous leur plume, l’Histoire de La Réunion est « une révélation d’un passé intellectuel et militaire aussi intense que l’histoire du département le plus riche en grands hommes et nobles salons »…

Les noms d'Emirates, Qatar Airways et Air France étaient évoqués. C’est finalement le transporteur français qui scellera un nouveau partenariat stratégique pour une collaboration « élargie et renforcée » avec Air Mauritius. Dont il contrôle déjà 8,5% de l’actionnariat. Les discussions avec les candidats à un partenariat stratégique avec Air Mauritius avaient régulièrement buté, depuis mi 2012, sur la question du contrôle. Avec une majorité de son actionnariat détenue par l’Etat, Air Mauritius traine depuis des années une réputation d’être ingérable du fait des interventions intempestives du gouvernement dans ses opérations.

Notre avis: on ne peut que s'interroger sur l'impact de cette alliance renforcée sur le développement du trafic aérien dans la région. Notamment pour la compagnie réunionnaise Air Austral qui se trouve encore plus marginalisée et sans appui pour éventuellement se développer un jour.
